It was reported yesterday that UFC Hall Of Famer Randy Couture suffered a heart attack. Couture felt something was wrong following a workout at the Unbreakable MMA gym, and walked himself to a nearby hospital.

The 56-year-old was subsequently taken into intensive care. Now, in an update from MMA Fighting. Couture has released a statement on the matter. The statement revealed Couture was in the intensive care unit of the Cedars Sinai Hospital briefly. He then went into surgery after being diagnosed with a heart attack and had a stent placed in the diagonal artery of his heart to remove a blockage.

He attributed the blockage to “crazy thick blood and nominally high bad cholesterol.” Below is Couture’s statement.

“Contrary to recent rumors, I have not kicked the bucket yet,” Couture wrote. “I am alive and well. Special thanks to the amazing staff at Cedars Sinai Hospital. From the ER to cardiac ICU thanks for taking care of me.

“I’m one of those people that has crazy thick blood and nominally high bad cholesterol. Unfortunately, those 2 factors combined to create a nice clot including my diagonal artery. The (catheterization laboratory) at Cedars got right on it, cleared it out and placed a stent in its place.

“Thanks to all of you out there expressing your concern. Your love and support mean the world to me and my family. Live your lives to the fullest. You never know when you’ll draw that last breath in!”

Couture is still being held at Cedars where he is undergoing observation and additional tests. He is expected to make a full recovery. Xtreme Couture Management also released a statement.

“On Wednesday afternoon, October 23, Randy “The Natural” Couture was admitted and treated for a heart attack at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, CA.

“During a workout at Randy’s LA training home Unbreakable Performance in West Hollywood, CA, Randy experienced discomfort in what he initially thought was an offset rib or vertebrae. He tried working on a roller to relieve the problem – but that was not successful. Incredibly, Randy finished the entire workout while likely having the beginnings of a heart attack. Shortly thereafter, he drove home and attempted to rest. When the radiating chest pain did not cease, he recognized something was wrong.

“He proceeded to walk multiple blocks to a nearby emergency room rather than battle Los Angeles traffic. Upon his arrival, after an EKG, the medical staff informed Randy he had a heart attack, and would require immediate surgery to resolve the issue.

“The surgery was successful. Randy is now out of intensive care, stable, in good spirits, and well on his way to a speedy and full recovery.”

Former UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture has been hospitalized in Los Angeles. The report comes from TMZ, who notes Couture walked himself to a nearby hospital on Wednesday after feeling something wasn’t right following a workout at the Unbreakable MMA gym.

The 56-year-old was later determined to have suffered a heart attack and was put in intensive care. Sources close to the situation say that Couture is expected to make a full recovery. The former NCAA Division I wrestler is one of the most legendary names the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) has ever known.

Couture has shared the Octagon with legendary names such as Tito Ortiz, Chuck Liddell, Vitor Belfort, Josh Barnett, Lyoto Machida, and so many more. He ended his MMA career back in 2011 when he was knocked out by Machida at UFC 129, ending a three-fight win streak. The bout was Couture’s return to 205 pounds after defeating boxer James Toney at heavyweight.

Despite no longer being an active fighter, Couture remains a prominent figure within the MMA community today. His son, Ryan Couture, currently competes in MMA, and is signed to the Bellator MMA promotion. We here at LowKickMMA wish Couture a speedy and healthy recovery.

Two years ago today, the MMA community had quite a stare. Here is a look back at a bittersweet story about a major health scare for the legendary Randy Couture that fortunately had a happy ending. UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture had a major health scare, suffering a heart attack but there’s good news.

TMZ Sports reported that Couture is in intensive care in a Los Angeles hospital. Couture felt something was amiss and walked to the hospital from the Unbreakable MMA gym. There, he was admitted and treated immediately. Sources told TMZ Sports that he’s expected to make a full recovery.

Couture has earned a bevy of accolades throughout his mixed martial arts career. He is a three-time UFC heavyweight champion and a two-time UFC light heavyweight title holder. He also held the interim light heavyweight gold once. “The Natural” won the UFC 13 heavyweight tournament back in May 1997.

In perhaps the most memorable moment of his career, Couture defeated Tim Sylvia to capture the heavyweight title. What made this moment stand out was the fact that Couture was a massive underdog and he was 43 years old.

Couture serves as a color commentator for the Professional Fighters League (PFL). The promotion is currently in the middle of its playoffs. The finals will take place on Dec. 31 inside Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater in New York City.

MMA News wishes Randy Couture a full and speedy recovery.

Chuck Liddell vs. Randy Couture 2

Couture is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters in the history of MMA as he is a three-time heavyweight and two-time light heavyweight UFC champion. He has been out of the fight game since 2011. His last fight came after suffering a KO loss to former light heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida.

Liddell lost in late November to former fellow UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz by first-round knockout. In the fight, Ortiz evaded almost every attack with ease before he stopped Liddell with a violent right hand.

The style of going out there and striking it out until one fighter falls caught up to the former UFC light heavyweight champion. The days of sparring everyday appear to be changing as the game evolves and fighters get smarter.
