Tensions are running high ahead of the upcoming Bellator 289 grudge match between Raufeon Stots and Danny Sabatello.

Stots and Sabatello are set to face off in the semi-finals of Bellator’s bantamweight tournament, in the main event of this weekend’s card. The rivalry between the two men has been well publicized in the build-up to this fight, with multiple near-physical altercations being captured on camera.

Raufeon Stots recently took the time to speak with LowKickMMA’s Joe Reynolds about the fight and rivalry, stating:

“I cannot wait, just because I know it’s gonna feel really good to see the look on his face… I think he’s had enough. I think he’s had enough of being around me, which tells me that he’s annoyed and I’m in his head. I don’t think he likes me – I enjoy the talking s**t because I know what’s gonna come. Like okay, your gonna talk s**t, but at the end of the day, I’m (going to) beat the s**t out of you. I enjoy it. Keep it coming, more fuel for my fire. Him, I don’t feel that he’s enjoying this, because I think he knows that at the end, there’s going to be a lot of pain involved.”

Raufeon Stots further ripped into Sabatello by stating that he finds it impossible to respect him as a man.

“It’s not personal, but it’s probably as close as you can get to personal for me,” said Raufeon Stots. “Outside me being in a tournament and fighting him, I have no reason to hate him. But I don’t like the way he carries himself. I don’t like the way he talks to other people. I don’t like the was he portrays himself – I don’t like those things. Like Josh Hill, Kieth Lee, a lot of these other guys, I can respect them as men. I can’t respect this guy as a man. And that’s why I call him a b***h a lot. I think he hides from adversity – not only in the fight but how he carries himself in day-to-day life. I think he also – Everything he says is kind of a facade to what he’s actually trying to accomplish. Just things I can’t align with.”

Raufeon Stots and Danny Sabatello got into a brief physical altercation live on air, needing the host Ariel Helwani to step in and separate the two.

The current interim Bellator bantamweight champion Stots is slated to take on Danny Sabatello at Bellator 289 on Dec. 9 at Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville, Connecticut. Coming off an impressive knockout win over Juan Archuleta in April, Stots will go into the bout on a 10-fight win streak, having maintained an unblemished record in six outings under the banner.

On the other hand, Sabatello will put his seven-fight win streak on the line. After joining Bellator in May 2021, “The Italian Gangster” made a successful debut and went on to win his next two bouts, the latest of which gave him his first five-round experience in the promotion.

Ariel Helwani had to step in after Raufeon Stots & Danny Sabatello got into a brief altercation

In an in-studio appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Stots & Sabatello sat across each other to talk about their upcoming fight at Bellator 289. While the contest is still about four months away, the heat between the two started flaring up as soon as Stots claimed to be the better wrestler.

“I’m a better wrestler,” Stots said. “We could wrestle right now and I’d beat the sh*t out of him.”

Helwani was quick to step in and make sure the altercation was only brief. He placed himself in between Stots & Sabatello to separate them, avoiding a major mishap or possible injuries. Sabatello took Stots’ belt next and continued provoking him. Helwani took the title from Sabatello and kept it back next to Stots, who apologized for the whole incident.

Fortunately, they were able to continue without any bitterness towards each other as they got back to trading verbal jabs as opposed to physical ones.

What are your thoughts on how Ariel Helwani handled the situation?

Bellator bantamweight Danny Sabatello paid a hefty price for his profanity-laced post-fight interview with “Big” John McCarthy at Bellator 282.

Sabatello earned a unanimous decision win over Leandro Higo in the Bellator 282 co-main event. The win allowed him to move on to the Bellator Bantamweight World Grand Prix semifinals and he’ll face interim champion Raufeon Stots next.

Sabatello, who has been known as one of Bellator’s biggest trash talkers, used his post-fight interview to cuss out his detractors. Now, the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation has fined him $5,000 for abusive language.

During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Sabatello gave his reaction to the fine. (h/t MMA Fighting)

“Yeah, that’s f****** bulls***,” he said. “That’s such f****** bulls***. But you know what, I don’t care. If I fight there again, I’m telling you right now, I’m going to do the same s***. You can keep f****** fining me. Nothing is going to deter me from being myself, and also, it wouldn’t do justice to the fans. I want the fans to understand exactly who they’re dealing with. That’s who I am. That’s my personality. Fine me. I don’t give a f***. It’s just money.”

Sabatello will likely appeal the fine and he’ll hope to have it resolved ahead of his next fight against Stots.

Sabatello has every reason to exude confidence following seven-straight wins, including victories in the tournament over Jornel Lugo and Higo. The former Dana White’s Contender Series standout has been branded as one of Bellator’s fastest-rising stars.

Sabatello will likely continue his profanity-laced approach to trash-talking in the future, but he may look to fight at other venues other than the Mohegan Sun Arena to avoid potential financial penalties.

Do you think it’s fair for Danny Sabatello to be fined for cursing?

Surging Bellator bantamweight contender, Raufeon Stots has advanced to the Bellator MMA World Grand Prix semi final bracket — as well as minting himself as the interim division gold holder — stopping former undisputed bantamweight best, Juan Archuleta with a stunning third round high kick in the co-main event of Bellator 279 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Stots, who entered tonight’s re-shuffled bantamweight Grand Prix quarter final bracket against Archuleta off the back of an impressive unanimous decision win over Magomed Magomedov, managed to utilize his wrestling in the opening round in response to some wrestling offense from Archuleta, before successfully defending a slew of takedown attempts in the second frame.

However, early in the third round, Stots managed to find his target with a high-kick-come-knee — catching Archuleta and becoming the first to finish the former undisputed champion with strikes in the process. Stots is now slated to move onto the semi-final bracket where he is joined by fellow surging grappling ace, Patchy Mix who turned in an impressive five round unanimous decision win over Kyoji Horiguchi earlier tonight.

Below, catch the highlights from Raufeon Stots’ stunning high kick win over Juan Archuleta
