Jose Aldo doesn’t have many fights left in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career.

One of his last is set to go down next month at UFC on ESPN+ 2 from the Centro de Formacao Olimpica do Nordeste in Fortaleza, Brazil on February 2nd. He’ll face rising featherweight contender and fellow countryman Renato Moicano. Despite being one of the greatest featherweights of all time, and coming off a TKO win over Jeremy Stephens in July, Aldo is listed as a betting underdog against Moicano.

Speaking to Combate, Aldo said he “don’t give a sh*t” about being an underdog:

“I couldn’t care less about it,” Aldo said. “I don’t give a sh-t. I don’t care about gambling at all. I’m only interested in my training, my team and my potential to get in there and win my fights.”

Aldo suffered his first defeat in over a decade to Conor McGregor in December of 2015. He went on to reclaim the featherweight throne against Frankie Edgar the following July. However, he’d again drop the title, this time, to Max Holloway in back-to-back fights. This past summer Aldo won his first fight since July of 2016.

He finished Stephens in the first round of their match-up in Calgary. With just three fights left on his UFC contract, Aldo is hoping for another run at the gold before hanging up his gloves.

Jose Aldo’s mixed martial arts (MMA) career is beginning to wind down.

The Brazilian MMA legend only has a few fights left before he hangs up his gloves for good. Aldo recently spoke at a media day in Rio de Janeiro. “Scarface” revealed that he plans on fighting three more times this year before retiring (via MMA Fighting):

“I want to end my career here in Brazil. That’s what we have planned,” Aldo said. “I want to do these three fights… I’ll fight in Fortaleza now, and I’m already negotiating my next one for May (UFC 237), if I’m not mistaken in Curitiba, and then finish it in the second semester, which I know will have another event in Brazil.”

Aldo’s longtime coach and manager Andre Pederneiras revealed that they asked the UFC to put Aldo’s remaining three fights in Brazil so he can retire in his home country:

“We asked them to complete Aldo’s contract fighting in Brazil so he could give the final three fights of his career to the Brazilian fans here,” Pederneiras said.

“That’s his will, that’s what he asked Dana (White), and apparently that’s what’s going to happen.”

The first of those three fights will go down early next month (Sat. February 2, 2019). Aldo will face rising 145-pound contender and fellow countryman Renato Moicano. The pair will co-main event UFC on ESPN+ 2 from the Centro de Formacao Olimpica do Nordeste in Fortaleza, Brazil. Aldo recently picked up his first win since July 2016.

He finished Jeremy Stephens at UFC on FOX 30 last July. Perhaps now Aldo can rack up another win streak and exit the UFC with a title opportunity.

Renato Moicano is “prepared for war” against Jose Aldo at UFC on ESPN+ 2 in February.

The show goes down from the Centro de Formação Olímpica do Nordeste in Fortaleza, Brazil on February 2, 2019. This is undoubtedly the biggest fight of the 29-year-old’s career, and as he tells MMA Junkie, he isn’t taking it lightly:

“People have to remember that Aldo isn’t just any opponent,” Moicano said. “He’s a legend, a champion. He’s a guy whom I highly respect, a great opponent and I’m thinking only about beating him on Feb. 2. What happens later, happens later.

“Right now I’m focused, training like I’ve never trained before. Really dedicating myself for this opportunity. I’m preparing for the best possible Aldo.

“On the fight against (Jeremy) Stephens, I thought he was looking good … I think he still has a lot of power in his strikes, he’s very much alive in the fight. So, really, I’m prepared for a war.”

Moicano has defeated some tough names at featherweight, including Jeremy Stephens and Cub Swanson. He’s currently on a two-fight win streak after suffering his first career loss to Brian Ortega in July of 2017. As for Aldo, he’s finally coming back into his own.

After back-to-back knockout losses to Max Holloway, “Scarface” picked up a much-needed TKO win over Jeremy Stephens in July. With a win, either man could very well push themselves into title contention.
