mfc_27Tonight the Maximum Fighting Championship holds its latest event, MFC 27: Breaking Point, at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The main card features six bouts that will air live on HDNet Fights, with play-by-play announcements done by “The Voice” Michael Schiavello.

MFC 27: Breaking Point features what promises to be an epic title fight as Douglas “The Phenom” Lima squares off against Jesse Juarez for the MFC’s world welterweight crown. And in the grudge match of the year, ultra-aggressive Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford will look to take out feared striker Pete “The Secret Weapon” Spratt.

The preliminary card is already underway, while the televised main card begins at 9PM EST (6PM PST) and can be viewed on the Versus Network.

The event is headlined by the WEC bantamweight debut of Urijah Faber, who drops to 135 for the first time in the promotion. He takes on former #1 contender Takeya Mizugaki, who looks to earn another title shot with a win tonight.

Other bouts include Chad Mendes vs. Javier Vazquez, Erik Koch vs. Francisco Rivera, and Joseph Benavidez vs. Wagnney Fabiano who will all fight on the televised portion of the Las Vegas show.

Monday night saw the K-1 World Max Finals of the eight-man 70kg tournament from the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan.

Besides kickboxing, the event also featured one mixed martial arts bout between former Olympic Judo Gold Medalist Satoshi Ishii and Katsuyori Shibata. Ishii, pictured kneeling over top of Shibata, earned a first round technical submission win. The former Olympian used a knee-on-belly position to lock in a kimura forcing the referee to step in and call the bout at 3:30.

The 70kg World Championship Tournament finale saw Giorgio Petrosyan take on Yoshihiro Sato. Petrosyan would earn the unanimous decision to earn back-to-back tournament wins.

Daniel CormierHeavyweight fighter and two time Olympic Freestyle Wrestler Daniel Cormier (6-0) defended his XMMA title to remain undefeated on Friday. Cormier earned put down opponent Soa Palelei in the first round by TKO at the Xtreme MMA 3 event at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre in Sydney, Australia.

This was Cormier’s first XMMA heavyweight title defense since defeating Lucas Browne last July at an Xtreme MMA 2 event in Australia. The heavyweight is also the current KOTC heavyweight champ, submitting Tony Johnson on August 13th at the King of the Cage: Imminent Danger event.

Cormier is also under a non-exclusive contract with the Strikeforce organization, having fought three times for the promotion. His last Strikeforce appearance was on August 21st, just a week after his KOTC win, earning a first round win over Jason Riley at the Strikeforce: Houston event.
