W1 New GroundThe action on Saturday night wasn’t limited to the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., with the Canadian promotion Warrior 1 holding it’s latest event from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

W1 New Ground took place at the Halifax Forum featuring two well known mma names in Strikeforce heavyweight Brett “The Grim” Rogers, and Murilo “Ninja” Rua, brother to UFC light-heavyweight champ Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

Rogers faced Reuben Villareal in the main event of the evening. “The Grim” would grind out a three round battle with Villareal to earn a unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) ending a two-fight losing skid for the Strikeforce heavyweight.

“Ninja” Rua had been campaigning for a spot in the UFC but may have hit a bump in the road against opponent Roy Boughton on Saturday night. Both men faced off in a 190 lbs catchweight bout, Boughton was overweight at 195.2 lbs for the fight, in the evenings co-man event. It was a close first round, but Boughton earned the next two to defeat Rua via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, and 29-28).
