Tonight’s “Strikeforce and M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Werdum” event is already underway with the first preliminary bout of the night.

The show is taking place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. with the night’s main card airing on Showtime beginning at 10PM EST (7PM PST). Viewers on the West Coast will get to watch the show on tape delay.

The event is headlined by a heavyweight bout between Fedor Emelianenko vs. Fabricio Werdum, while the co-main event features a women’s title bout between Women’s Strikeforce Featherweight champ Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos vs. challenger Jay Finney.

Thursday night’s Bellator 23 event featured Bellator Fighting Championships’ Season 2 Featherweight and Middleweight finals. Patricio “Pitbull” Freire took on Joe Warren in the Featherweight final and Russian Fighter Alexander Shlemenko faced Bryan Baker in the Season 2 Middleweight tournament.

Bellator 23 took place at the Fourth Street Live! entertainment and retail complex in Louisville, Kentucky and was broadcast live on FOX Sports Net. Fans can expect a highlights package to air Saturday on NBC, Telemundo and mun2.

Joe Warren fought a hard fought three round battle against Patricio “Pitbull” Freire in the Featherweight Tournament Final. The “Pitbull” came out hard in the first round pressing the attack and was close to ending the fight with a standing arm-triangle choke which Warren worked free of. The second and third saw Freire slow down, which allowed Warren to take the fight to the ground and score some points. Warren earned the split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) from the judges and will meet Bellator Featherweight champ Joe Soto in season three.

It didn’t take long for Russian Middleweight Alexander Shlemenko to find his range and finish Bryan Baker in the Season 2 Middleweight Tournament Final. Both fighters exchanged briefly with both men trading kicks in the opening minute. Shlemenko misses a kick only to eat one from Baker and is sent to the mat. The Russian is quite to rebound and gets back to his feet to drop his opponent with a liver shot. Shlemenko pounces for the finish and forces the stoppage with some strong ground and pound at 2:45 of the first round. Shlemenko will now go on to meet Bellator’s middleweight champion Hector Lombard in season three.

World Victory Road held their latest event Sunday night in Japan, which was early Sunday morning for those of us in North America.

Sengoku Raiden Championship 13 was held at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan and featured 13 bouts culminating with a main event title bout between champ Masanori Kanehara vs. challenger Marlon Sandro. SRC 13 also kicked off it’s Welterweight Grand Prix tournament.

With a stunning 38 second victory, challenger Sandro knocked out featherweight champ Kanehara to take the featherweight title. MMAFighting.com has the breakdown of the round as well as the full results.

SRC Featherweight Title Fight:
Marlon Sandro def. Masanori Kanehara by KO (Punches) – Round 1, 0:38
It took just 38 seconds for Marlon Sandro to take Masanori Kanehara’s feathweight belt. The bout started with Sandro immediately seizing control of the center of the ring with the defending champion circling around him, feigning jabs and attempting to gauge the speed difference. This circling did not last long though and as soon as Kanehara moved to the corner, Sandro moved in with a jab that that was blocked, followed by a right straight. The finishing blow, as is becoming the norm for the Nova Uniao black belt, was the right uppercut which landed cleanly and ended Kanehara’s night early. A following left hook from Sandro as Kanehara stiffly fell forward to the mat missed but was not needed. Kanehara was stretchered from the ring and did not regain consciousness until back stage and Sandro was awarded the featherweight title.
