Coming off of his impressive R2 TKO win over Rick Story at UFC 202 earlier this month, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone has landed himself a role on a brand new limited Netflix series called “Godless” which was created by Scott Frank and Steven Soderbergh.

Cerrone announced the news on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast yesterday (August 30, 2016) revealing he would be part of a train robbery gang:

“It’s a Netflix series. I got six episodes. Going to do cowboy (expletive),” Cerrone said. “It’s called “Godless”.

“I’m part of a gang, a train robbery gang. I’m excited. We start on the 12th.”

One of the show’s creators, Scott Frank, is an Academy Award nominated writer as a result of his work on the film “Get Shorty”.

Co-creator Steven Soderbergh is a former Academy Award winner himself for Best Director back in 2000, and will also serve as the show’s executive producer as well.

The show will star actors Jeff Daniels, Jack O’Connell, Merritt Weaver and Scoot McNairy.

You can check out a quick synopsis of the show from The Hollywood Reporter here:

The project, from Steven Soderbergh and Scott Frank, is set in 1884 and centers on Frank Griffin (Daniels), a menacing outlaw who is terrorizing the West as he hunts down Roy Goode (Unbroken’s Jack O’Connell), his son-like partner turned mortal enemy. While Roy hides at Alice Fletcher’s ranch, Frank’s chase leads him to the quiet town of La Belle, N.M. — which is mysteriously made up of entirely women.

Since a loss to then-UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos late in 2015, Donald Cerrone has piled up wins while competing in the welterweight division.

“Cowboy” will look to add Rick Story to his resume this Saturday night when the two collide at UFC 202, but he has plans to return to the 155-pound division after.

“I’m coming after Alvarez. Eddie, New York City, let’s make that happen,” Cerrone said on UFC Tonight earlier this week.”

Alvarez won the belt with a first round finish last month of dos Anjos and has made it known he would like the winner of Conor McGregor-Nate Diaz. Khabib Nurmagomedov is also making claims to being the No. 1 contender and has called out Alvarez.

It was Cerrone who welcomed Alvarez to the UFC back in 2014, earning a decision over the former Bellator champion.

Donald Cerrone’s (30-7, 1 NC) rise as a welterweight contender will be put to the test at UFC 202, where he’ll square off against Rick Story (19-8).

Cerrone finished 2015 with a disappointing result against then-lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos. Cowboy jumped right back into the cage in early 2016 by moving to 170 pounds against Alex Oliveira. A victory in Pittsburgh gave him a shot against Patrick Cote.

Now with back-to-back wins, Cerrone has put himself into the fray at 170.

Story has silently put together an impressive three-fight win streak. It is silent because of a nearly two-year absence between victories against Gunnar Nelson (October 2014) and Tarec Saffiedine (May 2016).

This is a meaningful welterweight clash with two known commodities. The winner will enter serious contention at welterweight as the new Tyron Woodley era begins.

Who has the edge between Cerrone and Story? What will the result of UFC 202 be?

Let’s take a look at the head-to-toe breakdown between these two veteran UFC fighters.

The UFC’s Most Undervalued Asset: An Exclusive Interview with Rick “The Horror” Story

rick-story-2

It’s hard these days for a fighter to find longevity in the sport of MMA, let alone in the UFC. Great fighters can go on multi fight losing streaks and be released from the company within a matter of months. Which makes careers such as Rick Story’s that much more impressive. Even with 18 total fights for the UFC and big wins against top Welterweights such as Thiago Alves and Johnny Hendricks, Story has found a way to fly under the radar. That all ends on August 20th, when Story fights fan favorite Donald Cerrone at UFC 202 in Las Vegas, NV. A card headlined by the media circus that will be McGregor vs Diaz 2. The time has come for the longtime veteran to step into the spotlight.

Being around since 2009 Story has seen a lot in the sport. Including the spike in P.E.D. usage and the evolution in the sports testing. While the positive tests frustrate fans. Story is happy to see the sport get cleaned up, ” … I’m glad that all these people are testing positive for this shit because it’s annoying. I mean. It opened my eyes when everyone started testing positive. It’s insane…”

Listen to the full interview to hear Story’s thoughts on the Lawler vs Woodley fight, who will win McGregor vs Diaz 2, and his thoughts on Dana White and the sale of the UFC. Story has been in the UFC for 7 years and come August 20th, he is going to finally get the recognition he deserves.
