Next up on the UFC Vegas main card is a lightweight bout between Roosevelt Roberts and Brok Weaver.

Round 1: Roosevelt lands a body kick but it’s caught by Weaaver. Weaver clinches him up against the fence but they separate quickly. Roosevelt lands a quick right. Weaver goes forward aggressively and clinches Roosevelt up again. Roosevelt reverses the position but they separate. Roosevelt lands a leg kick. Roosevelt lands a body shot and does some trash talking. Weaver goes for the takedown but Roosevelt defends as they separate. Roosevelt lands a nice one two and partially lands a kick high. Weaver seems to be getting mad at the trash talk and clinches him against the fence again. Roosevelt’s takedown defense prevails yet again. Roosevelt is clinched up again and reverses to attempt his own takedown. Weaver defends but finds himself in a standing guillotine attempt. Weaver scrambles on to the ground as the round comes to an end.

Round 2: Roosevelt lands a big knee on Weaver. He attempts another but partially misses as Weaver looks to clinch him again to no avail. Weaver tries again and fails. Roberts lands the takedown soon after and is looking for the submission. He nearly locks in the rear naked choke but Weaver just about escapes only to receive a number of big shots. Roosevelt locks up the rear naked choke soon after to get the win.

Official result: Roosevelt Roberts defeats Brok Weaver via rear naked choke submission (R2, ).

Up next on the UFC Minneapolis main card is a lightweight bout between Vinc Pichel and Roosevelt Roberts.

Round 1:

Beautiful clinch work from Roberts early on with some uppercuts and knees. Roberts catches Pichel with a flying knee coming inside but Pichel seems to walk through it with ease. Nice takedown defense from Roberts, who connects with a beautiful combination into a takedown attempt against the cage.

A big slam takedown for Roberts, and Pichel looked like he may have landed on his head, but he’s still awake. Roberts misses on some nice strikes against the cage and the round comes to an end with a failed takedown attempt from Pichel.

Round 2:

A nice leg kick lands for Pichel, and Roberts is starting to miss on some wild strikes. Pichel is finally able to get a nice takedown against the cage. Nice combination from Roberts backs Pichel against the cage and Roberts can’t complete a takedown attempt and backs off.

A flying knee connects for Roberts as Pichel comes inside. Pichel tried defending a takedown with a Kimura attempt, but it didn’t work out. Instead, Pichel ends up on top after a nice scramble. Pichel is able to get full mount just as the round comes to an end.

Round 3:

Roberts putting together some good counterstrikes to open up the round. Pichel comes in on a takedown attempt and gets it against the cage. Pichel with a nice arm tap on the ground and gets in some ground-and-pound. As he stands, Pichel locks in a standing choke but can’t pull it off. Pichel lands a nice spinning elbow and they clinch up.

Another takedown from Pichel against the cage and into mount. Pichel now takes Roberts’ back, moves back to take full mount on top and is working some nice ground-and-pound. They scramble and get to their feet as the round comes to an end.

Official Results: Vinc Pichel def. Roosevelt Roberts via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

The UFC Ft. Lauderdale main card kicked off with a lightweight contest between Roosevelt Roberts and Thomas Gifford.

As always, LowkickMMA will have you covered with all the results from UFC on ESPN+ 8 from Florida as they happen.

Roberts (7-0) entered this bout as the second biggest favorite on the night. Boasting a -450 betting odd against Gifford who got a +325 on the return as the underdog. The “GoGetta” defeated Darrell Horcher in his official UFC debut last November. (odds via Bovada)

As for Gifford (17-7). “The Young Lion” made his UFC debut in Ft. Lauderdale. He is a veteran of some 60 total combat sports fights. Gifford is comfortable in all areas but prefers the ground.

Round One

Roberts looks extremely relaxed to start. Gifford throws a quick jab as Roberts throws a kick. Gifford moves forward and lands a body kick. He lands another leg kick as Roberts backs away. Roberts lands a one-two. He then, shoots a takedown. Roberts ends up in side control defending a choke attempt from Gifford. He looks for a kimura as Gifford defends with his free arm. Gifford looks for a triangle choke, Roberts is defending but Gifford is making is a grappling match here with 90 seconds left. Roberts lands a few hard elbows on Gifford’s head. He stands up but is lured back down by Gifford. Gifford looks like he has an arm with 40 seconds left in the round. He chains submissions but Roberts defends nicely. Roberts blasts some hard punches down. The horn sounds.

Round Two

Roberts lands a right hand to start round two. Gifford answers with a jab. Roberts opens up with a flurry but the UFC newcomer eats it. Roberts lands another right hand. He sticks and moves. Gifford answers but with far less significant strikes. A leg kick landed by Roberts, then a right hand. Roberts ties up Gifford against the cage, Gifford jumps on his neck and pulls guard. He loses the choke and Roberts looks for offense inside his closed guard. Ben men taking a bit of a breather here. Roberts passes guard with 90 seconds and finds himself defending another triangle choke. However, Gifford doesn’t really have the position. He looks for an arm. The horn sounds.

Round Three

Gifford takes the center of the Octagon. Roberts lands a left hand, then a right for good measure. He cracks Gifford with a hard three-piece combo then grapples Gifford. The UFC newcomer drags Roberts to the ground. He slowly works to better his position but lets Roberts up. Roberts cracks him with a straight right hand, then dives on a leg. Gifford defends but Roberts is still working for a takedown. Roberts kicks his leg out and scores another trip. He looks for the kimura again then passes into half guard. Less than one minute to go. The fighters throw some weak shots as the fight ends.
