UFC light heavyweight vets Ryan Bader and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira met in a rematch of their first bout in 2010 when they faced off in the headlining bout of tonight’s (Sat., November 19, 2016) UFC Fight Night 100 from the Ginásio do Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil.
While the No. 4-ranked “Darth” won a somewhat cautious veteran over his then-more storied adversary as an up-and-coming force, Bader was looking to make a statement in “Minotouro’s” homeland as one of the most dangerous fighters in the shallow UFC 205-pound talent pool.
Aside from some effective early striking from the experienced boxer in “Lil’ Nog,” Bader was able to use his NCAA Division I wrestling pedigree to ground the aging veteran and advance position until the path to a TKO stoppage from ground and pound opened. While it may not be the statement win Bader will need to finally secure his long-awaited 205-pound title shot, it does add a second straight stoppage to his record, cementing him at the top of the short list of legitimate title contenders.
