As usual, Neil Magny was all class after his loss to Santiago Ponzinibbio in the UFC Fight Night Argentina main event on Saturday (Nov. 17, 2018). Magny found himself in trouble early on when he ate a near-perfect jab to the eye. This forced Magny to be on the defensive for much of the fight.

Ponzinibbio is an all-action straightforward kind of fighter. When he noticed Magny was in trouble, the Argentinian went full bore in an effort to end the fight. He managed to do so in the fourth round.

Magny offered his reaction to reporters at the UFC Fight Night 140 post-fight press conference:

“I think it’s pretty obvious (I’m) beat up. Beat up and disappointed. Obviously, it wasn’t my night. … His power was impressive. Whether it was a jab or a cross or a hook, I was still looking up wondering where that punch came from. He has speed in his hands, power in his hands, and precision with his punches.”

Although Magny didn’t get the result he was looking for, he was forced to dig deep. T

The amount of damage Ponzinibbio inflicted on Magny via leg kicks would have forced many lesser fighters to quit. Despite the obvious damage, he said he never would have quit. He also wouldn’t want his corner to call it:

“Live by the sword, die by the sword,” Magny said. “I’m in there to protect myself at all times. … I think I would be more disappointed in myself if I were to quit or if my coaches were to call it early. I’d rather fight tooth-and-nail until the last possible second and give it all I’ve got.”

Santiago Ponzinibbio dismisses potentially fighting former title contender Darren Till in his next fight.

In the headliner of the UFC Argentina event on Saturday at Estadio Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina on FOX Sports 1, Ponzinibbio picked up an impressive win. In the fourth round of the fight, Ponzinibbio was able to sleep Neil Magny with a straight right hand. After the fight, he called out UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley for a title fight. Obviously, he’ll have to wait for that. Now, he’s looking forward in order to get his next fight lined up.

One of the obvious fighters that could be next for him might be against Till. This former title contender is coming off the first loss in his pro-MMA career but is looking ahead. As seen in the main event of the UFC 228 pay-per-view event in Dallas, Texas, Tyron Woodley was able to score a second-round submission victory over Till to retain his welterweight title.

Till earned this title shot with the last win of his pro-MMA career in the main event of UFC Liverpool. Till picked up a unanimous decision win over Stephen Thompson. Before that, he beat Donald Cerrone.

However, Ponzinibbio ruled out potentially fighting Till when asked about the potential fight due to his mindset about him.

“I don’t see him as a very professional athlete,” Ponzinibbio said (H/T to MMAJunkie). “I think he missed weight a few times. So there are other fights that I’m more interested in than him.”

Tyron Woodley reacts to the latest callout made by rising contender Santiago Ponzinibbio who picked up his latest win inside of the Octagon.

As a result, he’s expected to jump up in the UFC welterweight rankings. Ponzinibbio is ranked #10 and Magny #8 coming into this fight. Ponzinibbio is currently on a seven-fight win streak inside the Octagon.

He hasn’t lost since being finished by Lorenz Larkin back in 2015. With wins against the likes of Mike Perry and Gunnar Nelson under his belt, he has a good shot at a title shot.

Tyron Woodley Gives His Reaction

Following the main event, Ponzinibbio called out the UFC welterweight champion for a title shot in 2019. Woodley then responded to him on the post-fight show that aired on FOX Sports 1.

“Take a number, bruh,” Woodley said (H/T to MMAJunkie). “Everyone wants a crack at the king. The thing is, I don’t necessarily want to see him face anybody.

If you’re in the top-10, you’re always one victory away from fighting for the title shot. Somebody can get injured, a last-minute replacement. You’re always there in position.”

Woodley is expected to make his next title defense as the welterweight champion against Colby Covington. This fight should go down in the first quarter of 2019. The UFC champ continued by giving advice to Ponzinibbio.

“Just keep fighting, keep winning and you’re going to get a chance to get across the octagon. See what everybody else thought they wanted, and that’s catching the fade.”

Time will tell whether or not he gets the winner of the Woodley – Covington bout.
