Bantamweight contender Aspen Ladd is injured and therefore unable to compete against former title challenger Sara McMann at UFC on ESPN 12 on June 27. John Morgan of MMA Junkie broke the news via social media, he wrote.

“Unfortunate news for a top women’s bantamweight contender: @AspenLaddMMA suffered an injury in training and is out of her fight next week with Sara McMann. I’m told her recovery could be anywhere between 3-9 months.”

Ladd returned to the winning ways last time out by stopping Yana Kunitskaya at UFC Washington in December 2019. Prior to that Ladd suffered the first and only loss of his MMA career. The 25-year-old was clipped early by renowned striker Germaine de Randamie who finished the rising star in just 16 seconds when they fought in the main event at UFC Sacramento in July 2019.

The #3 ranked bantamweight took to Instagram to announce she had been forced out of her fight with McMann and provide more details about her injury, she wrote.

“Unfortunately, for the first time in my career I’m being pulled due to injury. This is me right now, finally home after an #mri today and a long talk with a very good doctor. So here’s the timeline, I got injured on my last hard day of training last week but still planned on toughing it out and fighting, I didn’t realize quite how bad it was. I have been training on it since the initial injury to the best of my abilities and my weight was( is) super low already. So I was thinking I had this. Anyways, I had planned on getting a cortisone shot, and when I showed up to that appointment yesterday the concerned doc ultrasounded my knee, then booked the #mri stat . Turns out I just have a REALLY high pain tolerance. I have 2 grade 3 tears and a couple other injuries going on. I’ll know later this week Iif surgery is in my future, but hope to be back in the cage before the end of the year. Honesty is the best policy so here you go, sucks because I feel phenomenal otherwise #shithappens #timetofixit #ufc

Rising star Aspen Ladd will meet former title challenger Sara McMann in a clash between two of the best at bantamweight on June 27. Ladd took to social media to announce she had accepted a fight but didn’t confirm who she’d be facing or when the bout would be taking place.

Since then MMA Junkie has revealed the details of her upcoming fight in a report that read. “MMA Junkie confirmed Monday that Ladd (9-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) and McMann (12-5 MMA, 6-5 UFC) have agreed to fight on the card, according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation. The people requested anonymity because the UFC has yet to make an official announcement.”

Ladd was previously scheduled to face Juliana Pena on March 28 at UFC Columbus but that card was scrapped due to the ongoing global pandemic. The plan was to reschedule the bout but Pena is now not ready after suffering an injury.

The 25-year-old is coming off a third-round stoppage win over Yana Kunitskaya at UFC Washington in December 2019. This was Ladd’s first fight back since suffering the first defeat of her career, in controversial circumstances against Germaine de Randamie.

McMann will also be hoping to make it two wins in a row come June. Last time out she got the decision over Lina Lansberg. Prior that she had dropped two consecutive fights by arm-triangle choke against Ketlen Vieira and Marion Reneau.

The June 27 event as of right now has no host state or venue. UFC had intended to hold a show in Austin, Texas, on that date before the coronavirus crisis changed everything. Currently, the UFC is planning to hold upcoming events at its Apex Facility in Las Vegas however they are still waiting for clearance from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Surging UFC featherweight Jeremy Stephens picked up a third straight win with a brutal knockout finish of Josh Emmett (watch the highlights) in the main event of last weekend’s (Sat., February 24, 2018) UFC on FOX 28 from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, but the victory didn’t come without a heap of controversy.

After rocking Emmett with a pinpoint left hand in the second round, ‘Lil’ Heathen’ followed him to the ground with what appeared to be a possibly illegal knee and two elbows that hit him in the back of the head. Emmett and his team were irate after the fight and revealed plans to appeal the defeat.

The results of that appeal, although appeals are rarely successful, remains to be seen, but for now, Stephens has earned a significant boost up the official UFC rankings. For the win over Emmett, he rose three spots to No. 5 on the 145-pound ranks, sending Emmett down two spots to No. 6.

The Orlando event also saw some movement at 205 pounds, where Ilir Latifi also rose up three spots to No. 5 for his impressive submission win over Ovince Saint Preux, who dropped one spot to No. 6.

Marion Reneau also continued to inch up the women’s bantamweight rankings after a shocking comeback submission over Sara McMann following a first round where she was controlled on the ground, rising up a spot to No. 7 and sending McMann to No. 8.

High-stakes ranking positioning in the women’s bantamweight division was on the line when No. 8-ranked Marion Reneau met No. 7-ranked former title challenger Sara McMann on the preliminary card of tonight’s (Sat., February 24, 2018) UFC on FOX 28 from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.

For the majority of the opening frame, Reneau was dominated by McMann’s patented power wrestling game as she absorbed endless ground and pound when McMann took her down with a big slam and kept going back to a smothering crucifix position.

While she appeared to be tiring from the relentless attack, the second round was a different story, however. Reneau landed a big right hand that wobbled McMann and turned the tide in her favor. The 40-year-old teacher went to work with a barrage of effective elbows, punches, and knees that left McMann no choice but to resort back to her wrestling.

When she did, Reneau locked up a swift triangle choke following a takedown, taking her time to lock it in and earn an ultra-impressive comeback submission for her biggest victory of all-time in an amazing fight.
