Firstly, a matchup between the surging Chicago wrestling staple, Bella Muhammad, and the promotional-perfect Roufusport mainstay, Sean Brady has been added to a UFC 281 pay-per-view event on October 22. from the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, UAE. ESPN MMA reporter, Brett Okamoto was first to report the news of Muhammad’s return against Brady in October.
The UFC books a high-stakes strawweight headliner to main event an October 1. event
As for the beginning of the month, a high-stakes, potential strawweight title-eliminator between Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace, Mackenzie Dern, and the Liaoning native, Yan Xiaonan is scheduled to headline a UFC Fight Night event on October 1. to kick off the month’s proceedings for the organization.
Confirming the headlining clash on their official Twitter account, Paradigm Sports Management confirmed Dern’s return against Xiaonan on October 1.
“It’s official. Mackenzie Dern and Yan Xiaonan will meet in a strawweight main event on October 1.”
Enjoying an impressive three-fight winning run, Muhammad headlined UFC Vegas 51 back in April, earning the #5 rank in the official welterweight pile with a rematch, unanimous decision win over Vicente Luque.
In a pair of prior victories against former title challengers prior to avenging his win against Luque, Muhammad handed one-sided unanimous decision losses to both Stephen Thompson, and Demian Maia.
As for Brady, the #9 ranked Philadelphia native boasts a 15-0 professional record, most recently besting Michael Chiesa with a unanimous decision triumph at UFC Vegas 43 last time out.
Calling for an interim title fight recently at the strawweight limit, Dern returned to winning ways after a loss to Marina Rodriguez, defeating division staple, Tecia Torres with a split judging success at UFC 273 back in April.
For Xioanan, the Chinese contender is tasked with rebounding from a recent pair of losses to the aforenoted common-foe, Rodriguez, as well as a ground strikes knockout defeat to inaugural strawweight champion and current division titleholder, Carla Esparza.

Former UFC welterweight title challenger Stephen Thompson has issued a seemingly final opinion on a fight with Sean Brady.
Thompson has been the target of Brady ever since Brady’s last win against Michael Chiesa last November. Both welterweights are waiting for their next opponents and Brady specifically called out the former 170lb title challenger for his next outing.
But Thompson has appeared less than enthused about a fight with Brady. He has explained why a fight with Brady doesn’t make sense despite Brady accusing him of dodging the matchup.
During a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Thompson was asked about Brady and what he’s looking for in his next potential opponent.
“I think there are guys that wanna work their way up,” Thompson said. “It’s just the fact that the UFC’s gotta find the right guy. The right opponent for this next one. I know Sean Brady has called me out, but Sean Brady… I know exactly what he’s going to do. I don’t think it’s going to be fun for the fans because he’s just going to shoot, shoot, shoot. Which is understandable when you’re in a situation like mine. There are other guys out there. We just gotta make it happen.”
The 39-year-old Thompson is in a must-win scenario following back-to-back losses to Gilbert Burns and Belal Muhammad. His last win came against Geoff Neal in Dec. 2020 and his path towards a potential welterweight title shot is beginning to narrow.
Meanwhile, Brady was recently called out by Kevin Holland for a fight following his win at UFC Austin just weeks ago. It’s unclear as to whether or not the UFC will move forward with a potential fight between Brady and Holland.
Thompson has been a longtime callout target of Brady, but it appears that Thompson has issued a hard decline on Brady’s recent callout.

This past Saturday, Holland made his second walk to the cage as a welterweight against Tim Means at UFC Austin. Holland put in an impressive performance to come out on top by finishing Means in the second round via submission (d’arce choke).
‘Trailblazer’ had built a reputation for himself as a trash talker when he competed in the middleweight division. While he toned down the talk in favor of more fighting, there were some interesting words exchanged inside the cage.
Kevin Holland reveals a Captain America reference by Tim Means
During the UFC Post Show for ESPN MMA, Kevin Holland was asked if he was surprised by anything Means did. ‘Trailblazer’ shared that the talking was unexpected and revealed some words he exchanged with his opponent inside the octagon.
“His talking,” Holland said. “Just good, respectful talk back-and-forth. I had threw a sidekick to the leg but I told him I was going to try and keep it off the knee and he said, ‘I agree. Let’s keep ’em off the knee.’
“I hit him with a good shot and I was like, ‘man, you took that well,’ and he was like, ‘all day, baby! All day.’ The only thing I could think of was Captain America when he was getting beat up and he was like, ‘I can do this all night.’
“So, I was like man, Tim is so game this is wonderful. I was just in there having a great time with Tim. OG, veteran, somebody like him, you just can’t put nothing past him. I felt myself getting a little off-balanced a couple of times doing the thing I was supposed to do and I had to remember like, ‘correct yourself because Tim will take you out if you don’t.’”
Following the fight, Holland called out Sean Brady for his next outing. He shared that it was Brady who asked for him and that the matchmakers had informed him of Brady’s callout prior to his co-main event fight.

UFC welterweight contender Belal Muhammad didn’t hesitate to hit back at Sean Brady after accusing him of dodging a fight.
Muhammad and Brady are both awaiting their next opponents following recent impressive wins. Brady defeated Michael Chiesa last November, while Muhammad put on a dominant performance against Vicente Luque in April.
But the two rising 170lbers may be on a collision course after Brady and Muhammad went at it on social media.
In a recent tweet, Brady encouraged Muhammad to agree to a fight with him and to stop ignoring the UFC’s alleged calls.
“I know the ufc is calling. pick up the [phone] and agree to the fight. Nowhere to run now. I am coming for you,” Brady tweeted at Muhammad.
Shortly after Brady’s tweet, Muhammad hit back and expressed interest in other opponents.
“Lol didn’t u pull out of our first flight clown who’s running,” Muhammad replied. “It’s funny u got twitter fingers now but went silent when [Geoff Neal] was calling ..there’s 4 guys above me without a fight I’m tryin to fight.”
Brady has been itching for a fight in recent months, having recently called out Stephen Thompson. However, Thompson has allegedly declined a fight with him and is looking at other options.
Muhammad and Brady are looking to move one win closer to the welterweight title picture and could potentially come face-to-face if the UFC opts to pair them up.
