Sean O’Malley has revealed who he’d face next if it was up to him.

O’Malley has been making a name for himself in the UFC. Despite not being in the top 15 bantamweight rankings, the “Sugar” show has been calling for some big names. In fact, he’s got two former world champions in mind.

During an appearance of MMAFighting’s The MMA Hour, O’Malley said that Frankie Edgar and Dominick Cruz are on his radar.

“If they offered me Frankie, I would love to fight Frankie. Frankie’s a top-10 guy, and he’s a big-name guy. I wouldn’t have said no. No, I don’t want to fight him because I want to get paid more to fight. I said, ‘Yeah, I’ll fight Frankie on December 11 in Vegas. I would have loved that fight. That’s the fight I was hoping for. That’s the match I wanted. I’ll also fight Dominick Cruz December 11. That’s a fight I would take.”

O’Malley isn’t likely to get the Edgar fight this year. That’s because “The Answer” is penciled in to fight Marlon Vera at UFC 268 on Nov. 6. Sean O’Malley gave his prediction for the fight on his podcast.

“I think Chito beats Edgar. I think it’s probably going to be boring as s**t,” Claimed O’Malley. “I think Frankie, he just kinda like goes back and forth. Chito doesn’t do much. I’m gonna watch. I’m gonna watch and observe. But yeah, it’ll probably be a boring fight. I think Chito wins. I think Chito beats him.”

O’Malley suffered the first loss of his pro MMA career to “Chito” Vera back in Aug. 2020. Since that fight, O’Malley and Vera have been trading barbs. “Sugar” has said he doesn’t consider the loss to be legit.

Cruz doesn’t have a fight booked and was last seen back in March. He earned a split-decision win over Casey Kenney.

Sean O'Malley Alana McLaughlin

UFC bantamweight star Sean O’Malley isn’t buying into transgender fighter Alana McLaughlin’s MMA career, blasting her on his YouTube channel and discrediting the integrity of her being allowed to fight biological women.

McLaughlin has made headlines after she became one of the very few openly transgender fighters to compete in MMA. She won her MMA debut with Combate Global, blitzing Celine Provost en route to a submission win in the second round.

O’Malley, however, feels that it’s completely unfair for a biological man who transitioned into a woman to compete against biological women. O’Malley has quickly become one of the most prominent voices in the sport, both on social media and on his podcast.

“I don’t think that’s okay. I just don’t think that’s okay,” O’Malley said. “In just competing in sports, I mean, especially mixed.”

“It’s like she had testosterone for, who knows, 20 to 30 years of her life and now I’m a girl. You could tell that’s a dude. A jacked girl. I mean, look at those arms.”

O’Malley’s comments come just days after former UFC middleweight champion and current commentator, Michael Bisping, criticized McLaughlin and questioned whether or not it was fair for her to compete. While he said he supports transgender rights, he doesn’t think the same rules apply when it comes to athletic competition, especially when it comes to fighting.

McLaughlin thanked her supporters while blasting her critics during a recent social media post, and has blocked multiple personalities in the sport for being perceived as transphobic.

O’Malley is scheduled to fight in the UFC octagon before year’s end, but nothing has been set in stone just yet. He was rumored to fight Frankie Edgar before contract negotiations fell through.

O’Malley has won back-to-back fights including his dominant performance against Kris Moutinho at UFC 264.

Sean O’Malley believes he is closing in on a bantamweight title shot.

‘Suga’ is one of the most charismatic stars in MMA but is yet to pick up a win over a ranked opponent during his 15-fight professional career.

The one and only time O’Malley stepped up his level opposition, he was beaten inside one round by Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera at UFC 252 back in August 2020.

Since then, he has put back-to-back wins together of low-level opposition.

The 26-year-old now seems primed for a run at the 135lbs rankings but an apparent financial issue with the UFC is stopping him from stepping up his level of opposition.

During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, O’Malley explained that he is closing in a bantamweight title shot but is unwilling to main event or feature at the top of pay-per-view events until his financial situation with the UFC is sorted.

“I feel like I’m the main draw at 135, I’m the biggest name at 135,” Sean O’Malley said. “So there’s a lot of sweet, sweet, interesting fights at 135 that I would love to be a part of. Obviously I want to get paid fairly, but yeah, I think I’m not too far off from fighting for the title, main-eventing pay-per-views. … It depends. I really want to fight these three fights out and then start talking big names. I don’t think I should be main eventing for the money I’m making right now. I think I should be getting paid more, so we’ll see.”

O’Malley recently turned down the chance to fight the former lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar, due to the fact the bout was set to take place in New York on a date his coach is due to compete in a tournament.

‘Suga’ now has sights set on a December 11 matchup with Dominick Cruz.

“At the end of the day, the UFC picks. If they offer me Frankie, like I said, I would love to fight Frankie. Frankie is a top-10 guy I think and he’s a big-name guy,” O’Malley said. “I wouldn’t have said no, ‘No, I don’t want to fight him because I want to get paid more to fight him.’ I said, ‘Yeah, I’ll fight Frankie on Dec. 11th in Vegas.’ I would’ve loved for that fight. That’s the fight I was hoping for and that’s the matchup I wanted. I’ll also fight Dominick Cruz on Dec. 11th.”

The beef between Sean O’Malley and Paddy Pimblett seems to only be growing every day.

Both men have been going back and forth on social media in recent days. O’Malley said that he was not impressed by Pimblett’s UFC debut. Pimblett responded by calling O’Malley ‘a bit of a bi*ch’.

Now ‘Suga’ has come back with another reply. He recently was on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani where he was asked about his beef with Pimblett. (H/T sportskeeda.com)

“I have no idea. I didn’t know of him until the UFC kinda started posting stuff about him and I obviously don’t follow him. So, just a bunch of people started telling me Paddy’s talking sh*t so I’m not gonna not talk sh*t back.”

O’Malley continued stating that Pimblett is stupid but also smart at the same time for the call out.

“So yeah I don’t know. I don’t know what his beef was with me… As ugly and stupid as he may look, he’s kinda smart. He’s talking about the biggest name in the UFC. I’m clearly one of the biggest draws. I’m the cash cow and he knows that.”

This beef does seem a little weird given the fact that they fight in two different weight classes. Pimblett has fought at featherweight before but has recently said that the weight is too hard to make now. However, O’Malley is big for the bantamweight division and could move up easily for a potential match-up with Pimblett.

“He went out and performed the way he needed to. Besides nearly getting knocked out, O’Malley said. “Yeah, I think that could be a potential big fight. I don’t know. Yeah we’ll see, that was my first time seeing him fight.”

A fight between the two could be huge for the UFC. Pimblett has a crazy big following in the UK, while O’Malley has a massive following in the U.S. They both are young and love to trash talk so the buzz is certainly there if the UFC wants to pull the trigger on it.
