Sean O’Malley is hoping to travel to Puerto Rico to help YouTube star turned professional boxer, Jake Paul, train for his next fight which comes against ‘Suga’s’ former UFC colleague, Tyron Woodley, on August 28.

In an interview with The Schmo, ‘Suga’ openly admitted to being inspired by Jake and his older brother Logan Paul who is fresh off a mega-money match-up with boxing legend, Floyd Mayweather.

“I love it. I’m inspired by them,” O’Malley said. “When I got into the UFC, into fighting, I wanted to be an entertainer. That’s kind of like the title I wanted to be known. I want to be an entertainer. My form of entertaining is fighting. These guys are entertainers in their industries and they’re coming over and just entertaining in boxing. I love it. I’m a huge fan of Jake, huge fan of Logan.

“A lot of people hate it. I was excited. I watched the fight,” O’Malley added. “I was shaking. I was ready for Logan to somehow crack him. He didn’t. Floyd’s a legend. Floyd’s an animal. Floyd looked tiny in there against Logan. Logan looked huge. You know, props to Logan, props to Floyd. Both legends in their own (right). But I love it. I love what they’re doing.”

As talk turned to Jake Paul’s upcoming fight with ‘The Chosen One’, O’Malley revealed he is pulling for the internet celebrity to get the win and is planning to join the Paul camp to help him do just that.

“I’m very excited for that fight,” O’Malley said. “I don’t watch boxing. I literally, I just don’t watch boxing. I’m not interested in it. It doesn’t excite me. If a big fights coming up I don’t watch it. I watched Jake vs. Ben. I watched Logan vs. Floyd, and I’m going to watch Jake fight Tyron. I’m super excited for that fight stylistically. I think Jake can get the job done. I do. I like Tyron. I’m a huge fan of Tyron but, I’m boys with Jake. I actually might go out to Puerto Rico towards the end of his camp. Go out there and train with them a little bit, hang out. Good fight. I’m going to watch it, I’m excited.”

Sean O’Malley is currently ramping up his social media output in the hopes of landing a big fight.

Earlier this week ‘Suga’ hilariously called out former bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz, while bashing their 135lb rivals.

Last night, O’Malley made a play for Petr Yan. The Russian recently lost his bantamweight title to Aljamain Sterling.

‘No Mercy’ seemed on his way to a first defence at UFC 259 but was disqualified in round four for an illegal knee.

Yan now faces an uncertain few months as the Sterling rematch cannot be immediately booked due to the fact the champ is set to undergo neck surgery.

O’Malley looked to capitalize on this uncertainty by calling out Yan, he wrote.

“Hey @PetrYanUFC what are you doing in July brotha? Wana beat me up while you wait for your rematch?”

Yan clearly wasn’t a fan of the match-up, he replied.

“Are you high again Shaun?”

Yan is arguably the best 135lb fighter in MMA today. The 28-year-old has several high-profile wins over the likes of John Dodson, Jimmie Rivera, Urijah Faber and Jose Aldo. He’ll be hoping to book a highly anticipated rematch with Sterling later this year.

O’Malley is fresh off of an emphatic win over Thomas Almedia at UFC 259. ‘Suga’ dominated his Brazilian opponent for three rounds before finding the knockout blow to impressively bounce back from the first defeat of his career. O’Malley previously stepped up to fight a ranked fighter for the first time at UFC 252 in August 2020 and was quickly stopped by Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera.

Marlon Vera

UFC bantamweight Marlon Vera has recently come out and said that he accepted a rematch against rival Sean O’Malley but O’Malley turned it down.

These two met last summer at UFC 252. O’Malley was undefeated at the time and was coming off of a vicious walk-off knockout of Eddie Wineland. Vera had just dropped a controversial unanimous decision loss against Song Yadong but had won five straight before that.

The fight started off with both trying to get each others timing down early on. Vera then started beating up O’Malley’s lead leg pretty bad with calf kicks. Eventually in the first round, O’Malley suffered an ankle injury that rendered him one footed. He would fall to the mat on his back and get finished by Vera with strikes from the top.

After this fight, O’Malley and many of his fans were calling for an immediate rematch because of the injury. Meanwhile, Vera and many of his supporters said the Ecuadorian fighter should move on and move up the rankings to find a new opponent. Both would eventually move on and find different opponents for their next fights. Vera would go on to drop a decision loss to Jose Aldo in December of 2020. O’Malley would not come back until recently at UFC 260, where he knocked out Thomas Almeida.

All of this brings us to where we are today, with the possibility of a rematch rearing its head again. According to Vera, the UFC has already offered him the rematch, which he claims he accepted. Vera also claims O’Malley and his camp have been silent about the bout agreement. He would explain this in a quote tweet about the possible rematch.

With O’Malley coming off of a win and having huge star potential, I see the UFC giving him a bigger name for his next fight. He has recently called out Dominick Cruz and made a whole video about it.

A rematch right now would make sense for Vera, seeing that he is coming off a loss and would love to get another win over a high profile guy that he has already beaten.

Both guys are still young and have many of their prime years of fighting still ahead of them. I think that you have to let both guys build their resumes up again and have them possibly rematch a couple of years down the line.

Would you want to see a rematch between Marlon Vera and Sean O’Malley?
