‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley has predicted he will become the first man to finish Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera at UFC 252 which takes place on August 15 in Las Vegas. The popular bantamweight prospect is in the toughest fight of his life against Vera and that is something he recognizes.

Speaking to Just Scrap Radio on BJPENN.com O’Malley noted his UFC 252 opponent poses a serious threat, he said.

“He is a dangerous opponent and a really good black belt in jiu-jitsu has some TKO wins. A bunch of stoppages and has never been finished so that will be sweet for me to finish him for the first time. It is in the smaller cage so I was thinking that is a disadvantage. But, the more I think about it will be a disadvantage for him. It doesn’t really matter what we fight in. I don’t see him being able to connect any punches or get ahold of me. It won’t be a fun fight for him.”

O’Malley also realizes Vera is tough but that won’t stop him from scoring a first-round knockout on Saturday night.

“Vera is tough and can take some shots and a lot of the fights I was watching he was taking shots on the side of the head or the top, not the chin,” O’Malley said. “I hit people right on the chin. So, yeah I see another first-round knockout. But, I’ll be ready for 15 minutes. I think this will be a sweet fight for me to get a lot of highlights. I think I will be able to bust him up for a little while.

“If it plays out the way I want it to, I’ll get an early knockout,” he later added.

O’Malley is a strong striker who many believe Vera should try to take down in this fight. However, ‘Suga’ warns he has a serious ground game too it’s just something he hasn’t had the chance to show yet, he said.

“Chito is a black belt and follows jiu-jitsu, he has to assume my jiu-jitsu is decent. Whatever he assumes my jiu-jitsu is, it is better than that. It is a secret weapon. If he takes a shot on me and it is not a good shot and his head isn’t where it is supposed to be he is getting choked 100 percent. If he does take me down, we will see how that plays out. I’m very confident in my wrestling, my jiu-jitsu, I’m very confident to get back up off my back. Anywhere the fight goes I can get a finish.”

‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley is hoping to fight the best at 135lbs after he takes out Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera in the UFC 252 co-main event this weekend.

O’Malley has scored back-to-back first-round knockouts in 2020 to catapult himself into the bantamweight rankings. He faces the toughest fight of his career when he squares off against Vera on August 15. Despite the tough task in front of him, O’Malley is already looking towards future fights.

In an interview with Brett Okamoto of ESPN O’Malley expressed his belief that he will face one of the top five at bantamweight after he finishes Vera, he said.

“I think it’s going to be hard not to give me someone in the top five after I knock out ‘Chito’. They are going to see my skill level is legitimate and the fans are going to demand to see me fight one of these next top guys. So, after this fight you’ve gotta give what the fans want and I think everyone knows exactly what I’m talking about.”

In terms of specific opponents, O’Malley believes a fight with the former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt remains on the table despite the fact ‘No Love’ is dropping down for a shot a the 125lb title against the newly crowned flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo.

“I think it makes sense,” O’Malley said of a potential fight with Garbrandt. “It totally depends. So much can happen in fights.”

“We’ll see. I don’t know it’s hard to say. If it plays out perfect in my mind. I knock out ‘Chito’. I knock out Cody and the we’ll see what’s next.”

Cody Garbrandt and Sean O’Malley continue to build up a potential fight in the future.

It all started with O’Malley recently mocking Garbrandt’s intentions of dropping down to the flyweight division to fight new champion Deiveson Figueiredo.

Garbrandt was naturally not going to let that slide as he responded soon after.

“Don’t worry kid I’ll be running both divisions by 2021 hopefully by that time you’ll fight someone in the top 15….”

The back-and-forth continued from thereon out.

“I hope you don’t get knocked out at strawweight because it won’t look as good when I knock you out. Good luck.”

“Hopefully you don’t have to get carried out of the cage like a b*tch again… good luck ??

“Lolz my foot snapped champ.”

O’Malley ended things with one final message.

“You ain’t chasing greatness you are running from it.”

Garbrandt vs. O’Malley Rivalry Began After UFC 250

The rivalry between the pair started at UFC 250 in June following their impressive knockouts on the night that both received performance bonuses.

As both fighters debated as to whose knockout was better, it eventually led to trash talk between each other which has only continued since.

It will likely be a bit of time before we see them fight, but hopefully we do get to see it happen one day.

Sean O'Malley

Sean O’Malley thinks he is already in the mind of bantamweight champion Petr Yan despite the fact he has only just cracked the top 15 at 135lbs.

O’Malley is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about fighters in MMA. The 25-year-old is riding high off back-to-back knockout wins in 2020. Add in his eccentric personality and love of trash talk and it appears the UFC has a star on their hands. That’s something ‘Suga’ realizes and he thinks the rest of the bantamweight division recognizes it too.

“I’m for sure easily the most talked about guy in the division,” O’Malley told MMA Fighting. “I’m talking a lot of smack about Petr [Yan], Cody, Henry [Cejudo], all these dudes, and they’re all replying. They all know that’s a realistic fight in the future. They’re not taking it as a joke. They know it’s serious business.

As for the newly crowned champion Yan, O’Malley suspects he spends much of his time thinking about a potential match-up between the pair.

“I’m clearly in Petr’s head, or Pete-R, whatever you want to call him. I’m clearly in his head. He’s thinking about me. I think he’s dreaming about me, waking up and asking someone to help him tweet something.”

O’Malley insists nothing is personal and will never become personal. He admires Conor McGregor for taking trash talk to the next level but is hoping to learn from the mistakes ‘Notorious’ made in the lead up to his fight with his bitter rival Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“Nothing’s personal,” he said. “These guys say anything, they can do anything, say anything – nothing’s going to be personal. I do look at the whole, even the social media tweets, as business. Short little people like Petr and Cody and Henry have short man syndrome, and they get angry at things and it’s personal.

“For me, it’s always going to be business. I think Conor [McGregor] was really good at that until the Khabib [Nurmagomedov] fight. I feel like that got too personal, and it played games with him. I definitely learned from that experience with Conor vs. Khabib, I can’t let it get personal. I learn from everyone always, especially guys like Chael [Sonnen], Conor, guys that know how to talk and sell fights.”

Do you agree with Sean O’Malley? Is he already in the mind of UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan?
