Former interim light heavyweight champion, Ciryl Gane has landed in the winner’s enclosure once more — rebounding from a wholly dominant guillotine choke submission loss to Jon Jones back in March, with a dominant victory of his own over Moldovan grappler, Sergey Spivak in the main event of UFC Fight Night Paris.
Gane, a former interim heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC and the current number two ranked heavyweight contender, had headlined UFC 285 back in March against Jones in the pair’s vacant division title fight — suffering a one-sided guillotine choke submission loss inside the opening frame.
Dragging the Octagon to the French capital in September of last year, Ciryl Gane managed to turn in an impressive third round KO win over Australian knockout artist, Tai Tuivasa on that occasion. And tonight at the Accor Arena, Fernand Lopez trainee, Gane turned in another one-sided victory — adding to his Octagon résumé with his stoppage of Spivak.
Wrecking the body of the Moldovan challenger throughout the two rounds of their headlining clash. Gane landed knees and brutal body strikes against the former, pinning him to the Octagon fence in the second frame.
And with over a minute to work in the round, clubbing strikes and blows from the former interim champion proved enough for English referee, Marc Goddard to call a halt to the action, awarding French hometown favourite, Gane a victory via stoppage.
Below, catch the highlights from Ciryl Gane’s main event win atop a UFC Paris card
Suffering just two career losses to heavyweight division standouts, Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones during his naive professional career, former interim weight class gold holder, Ciryl Gane is currently backed as a decent betting favorite to return to the winner’s enclosure in his all-Euroepan clash with Sergey Spivak this weekend on home soil in the […]
Suffering just two career losses to heavyweight division standouts, Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones during his naive professional career, former interim weight class gold holder, Ciryl Gane is currently backed as a decent betting favorite to return to the winner’s enclosure in his all-Euroepan clash with Sergey Spivak this weekend on home soil in the main event of UFC Paris.
That victory would propel the Fernand Lopez trainee to a vacant title affair with the above-mentioned, Jones back in March of this year atop at UFC 285 card, in a bout he would ultimately lose in hugely-one-sided fashion courtesy of a first round guillotine choke submission win.
And waiting in the wings to snatch the thunder of the hugely-touted Gane, Moldovan grappler, Spivak, who has rose through the ranks at heavyweight to land the number seven ranked – capped off with a recent first round arm-triangle submission win over common-foe, Derrick Lewis – as part of a three-fight winning run.
Ciryl Gane closing as a betting favorite to beat Sergey Spivak at UFC Paris
For Gane, the French favorite is riding an impressive -175 betting line currently with Betway to land a victory over Spivak this weekend on home soil – attempting to improve to 2-0 in his native land under the Octagon banner following his stoppage win over the aforenoted, Tuivasa.
Also on important note on the card, Nice native, Manon Fiorot returns to the Octagon in search of her premiere flyweight title opportunity, as she attempts to extend an impressive winning run to six fight since joining the UFC.
Returning to the Octagon for the first time since May of last year since turning in an admittedly lacklustre and forgettable strawweight title defense loss to Carla Esparza in the pair’s rematch, veteran fan-favorite, Rose Namajunas will land in flyweight waters for the first time in the Octagon.
And attempting to charter unfound territory for the first time in her professional career, Namajunas is closing as a +155 betting underdog to halt the rise of the impressive French flyweight, Fiorot, who is trending well as a betting favorite – as high as -187 over at Betway.
Namajunas has been sidelined for over and year, and given her extended period of inactivity, the Wisconsin native currently can’t depend on prior title successes, including two victories over fan-favorite, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, as well as a pair of victories over incumbent strawweight best, Zhang Weili, to lead her toward favorite status this weekend in the French capital.
Making his long-awaited UFC bow following a gold-laden tenure in Cage Warriors, French favorite, Morgan Charriere himself is closing well also of note as a betting favorite with Betway, sitting currently at -350 over Italian prospect, Manolo Zecchini in the main card opener, who sits as a +260 underdog.
Can Ciryl Gane return to winning-ways at UFC Paris this weekend?

Derrick Lewis medically cleared just hours following main event cancellation
Just minutes before the UFC Vegas 65 main card started yesterday, November 19, 2022, we were all informed that our main event between heavyweight contenders Derrick Lewis and Serghei Spivac had been cancelled via undisclosed medical issues on Lewis’ behalf.
Color commentator Brendan Fitzgerald announced on the broadcast that Lewis was suffering from a ‘non-Covid, non-weight cutting issue’, and that he would not be competing in the events headliner.
Instead, light-heavyweight talents Kennedy Nzechukwu and Ion Cutelaba took their place, moving from the co-main event to the three round main event of the evening where Nzechukwu was victorious via TKO in round two.
Derrick Lewis was reportedly hospitalized, and though he hasn’t spoken out on his fight cancellation, he was cleared and released shortly thereafter. It was later understood that Lewis was battling stomach issues in the hours leading up, thus the reason the bout was scrapped and he was hospitalized.
We’re unsure whether or not the UFC aims to keep this match up together, but we can only hope, as a lot of us fans were really looking forward to it. It was to be a good test to see where Spivac was at in his career, and it was also going to be a good test to see if Lewis is still atop the UFC’s heavyweight division.
No. 7 ranked Derrick Lewis came into the bout on a two-fight losing skid, having been defeated by no. 4 ranked Tai Tuivasa and no. 5 ranked Sergei Pavlovich, who are ironically facing one another at UFC on ESPN 42 on December 3, 2022.
No. 12 ranked Serghei Spivac on the other hand was headed into UFC Vegas 65 on a two-fight win streak, having defeated Greg Hardy and Augusto Sakai over his latest two appearances.

Derrick Lewis is currently riding a two-fight losing skid
Lewis, the current #7 ranked heavyweight contender, was scheduled to make his first Octagon walk since July of this year, where he suffered a first round knockout loss against surging Russian contender, Sergey Pavlovich. The loss followed a prior second round knockout defeat to Australian knockout ace, Tai Tuivasa.
As for Molodovan talent, Spivak, the 27-year-old is undefeated in his last two, most recently adding Augusto Sakai to a winning résumé that includes a prior knockout success against promotional alum, Greg Hardy.
As a result of the cancellation of Lewis’ fight with Spivak, a scheduled light heavyweight fight between Kennedy Nzechukuwu, and Ion Cutelaba will now take curtain-closing honors. The bout will come as an impromptu main event, and the first headlining slot for both men in their respective Octagon tenures.
Back in July of this year, Nzechukwu defeated Karl Roberson with a knockout stoppage, while Cutelaba is currently riding a losing skid of two fights, dropping back-to-back submission losses to both recent victor, Ryan Spann, and Brazilian contender, Johnny Walker.

The UFC announced Tuesday that the contest between Greg Hardy and Sergey Spivak originally scheduled for this weekend has been moved to UFC 272 in Las Vegas.
Hardy was originally scheduled to long-time veteran Alexey Oleinik but after Oleinik was forced to withdraw due to an undisclosed injury, Spivak stepped in to take his place. However, just days later, Hardy was also forced out of the fight after falling victim to a grisly finger injury.
Hardy has suffered back-to-back knockout defeats in his last two outings at the hands of Marcin Tybura and most notably, Tai Tuivasa at UFC 264.
Greg Hardy’s UFC Future Still Up In The Air
The former Dallas Cowboys standout has just one fight remaining on his current contract, one which he hopes to win in order to secure a new deal with the UFC. However, Hardy expressed gratitude towards Dana White and thanked him for the opportunity he’s been given whether his deal gets renewed or not.
On the other side, this was the second time that Spivak, who has a win over Oleinik in the UFC, has stepped in for the Russian submission specialist. ‘Polar Bear’ was also finished in violent fashion in the first round of his last outing against rising contender Tom Aspinall at UFC Vegas 36.
Assuming Hardy’s injury heals and the bout goes on as scheduled, it will be a big opportunity for both men to get back into the win column.
Win or lose, do you think this will be the last we see of Greg Hardy in the UFC?
