This UFC 211 bout is kind of a make or break fight for both fighters! Henry Cejudo has matched expectations thus far, but is now in a sticky spot courtesy of a defeat at the hands of Joseph Benavidez. On the other end of the octagon is going to be Sergio Pettis who started off weak but has really turned the tables around thanks to his victory against the very reputable Chris Cariaso and not to mention a formidable win against John Moraga, both former contenders to the title.

While Cejudo will be keen to get back to winning ways, Pettis will do everything in his power to keep his winning run going. This is precisely what will make this match highly interesting. However, we believe Cejudo has the upper hand is the favorite here, he simply has a tad too much quality and experience for Pettis to deal with. If Pettis wants to stand a chance of actually causing an upset result, he will have to bring his A game for sure, or maybe even more.

For our prediction, while Pettis is certainly a fighter with good potential, we simply cannot see him outdoing the brute strength, technicality and agility of Henry Cejudo. Having said that, over confidence could prove to be the demise of Cejudo here. We will have to go with Henry Cejudo for the win by unanimous decision.

Sergio Pettis returned to the Octagon in style when he bested John Moraga at last Sunday night’s (Jan. 15) UFC Fight Night event. Pettis was in hostile territory as he was competing in Moraga’s hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. Nonetheless, Pettis walked out of the Talking Stick Arena with a unanimous decision win.

The official YouTube channel of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), uploaded Megan Olivi’s post-fight interview with “The Phenom.” Pettis said he felt in prime condition when he shared the Octagon with his opponent:

“I didn’t feel any ring rust or anything. I was more excited to be out there, blessed that my body was able to come out here and perform. This is something I love doing, this is my passion. I’m a martial artist and out there is my canvas and I feel like I was performing hard and expressing myself.”

While the decision was clearly in Pettis’ favor, Moraga had his moments where he landed a few clean strikes. The rising flyweight admitted he had his bell rung for some of those punches.

“I mean he did hit me with some hits that kind of were like, ‘oh I should probably put my hands up,’ but he hit me with some good shots. [He] definitely had me a little shaken from some of em. He has some hard power and at 32 years old, he’s throwing some bombs out there.”

After the fight, Pettis called out Jussier Formiga to a bout for UFC 209 on March 4. Pettis said he doesn’t want to waste time before throwing some more leather.

“I just wanna get back in there right away. I feel like my body is okay besides the calf. But I feel like my body’s okay and I wanna take advantage of my youth. I’m only 23 years old. [I] really don’t have much injuries. I had suffered one LCL injury and after having such a long layoff, I realized I gotta really take care of my body.”

John Moraga: ‘I’ve Been an Underdog My Whole Life’

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) flyweights John Moraga and Sergio Pettis nabbed a main card slot on the UFC Fight Night event this Sunday night (Jan. 15). Once Jimmie Rivera was removed from the event, it opened up the door for both 125-pounders.

Moraga has a “do or die” mentality when it comes to his upcoming bout. He recently said he was fighting for his life because he wasn’t convinced he’d want to fight anywhere else if the UFC released him. The official YouTube channel of the UFC uploaded a new video going through Moraga’s life growing up and how wrestling made him.

Here’s the official description:

“An underdog his whole life, flyweight contender John Moraga was saved by wrestling from the mean streets of Phoenix, Arizona. He makes his return to his hometown against No. 15-ranked Sergio Pettis at Fight Night Phoenix.”

Going into Sunday’s bout, Pettis is a slight favorite. It’s nothing new to Moraga, who thinks it’s business as usual.

“I’ve been an underdog my whole life since I started right here (Maryvale High School). I’ve been an underdog, so it ain’t nothing new to me.”

Moraga’s former wrestling coach Frank Saenz was also featured in the video. He played a huge role in helping Moraga thrive in more dire times. Saenz refused to take the credit.

“John made himself what he is today because he’s a believer. He believes and he believes. I think after that state tournament that he won, that kid (he faced) was ranked 12th in the nation at that time, an All-American. (Moraga) probably lost to this kid 10 times, 12 times prior and won in double overtime. (He) never quit. He excelled and did something that people didn’t think he’d be able to do.”

The UFC Fight Night prelims begin at 8 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1. The main card will air on the same network at 10 p.m. ET. Moraga vs. Pettis is expected to be the main card opener.
