The Indian based Super Fight League promotion held their third event today (May 6, 2012), streaming the live show on Youtube for free from the IGI Stadium in New Delhi, India.

SFL brought in Phil Baroni to act as part of the color commenting team for the live event. It was certainly interesting having him run around in a leather jacket and no shirt during the show.

The event was headlined by a heavyweight bout between former WWE star Bobby Lashley and traveled veteran James Thompson.

The two fighters would go the distance in their three round match, with most of the exciting action taking place in the first and second round of the fight. Into the second, and more so in the third, both fighters would begin to gas out. The only reprieve for the fighters would have would come in the third after Thompson landed an illegal knee, for which Lashley used all five minutes to recover. In the end the judges would give it to Thompson by a score of 29-28 across the board.

As well as featuring several Indian fighters, there were a few recognizable names such as former WEC champ Doug ‘the Rhino’ Marshall and Trevor Prangley.

Fight fans from around the world can tune in and watch the action live and free on YouTube at 18.45 Indian Standard Time (IST) 06.15am PDT, 13.15 GMT on Sunday 6th May.

SFL CEO Ken Pavia said: ‘Our goal is to improve with every event and we believe that we are continuing to realize this objective. Our international card is the best that has been offered outside of North America this year. This card has something for everyone, world class strikes, collegiate and professional champion wrestlers, submission specialists, prospects and experienced veterans. SFL 3 is sure to deliver pure entertainment for the MMA enthusiast as well as the newer fans.’

Main Card:

Bobby Lashley V James Thompson (HW)
Former WWE Champion Bobby ‘The Dominator’ Lashley takes on battle tested British Heavyweight James ‘The Colossus’ Thompson in a headline battle of the Heavyweights. Lashley is not underestimating his opponent, having trained for a stand up battle or a wrestling gala whist Thompson, fresh off a win over Bob Sapp at SFL 1, is predicting a three round war.

Trevor Prangley V Baga Agaev (LH)
27 year old Russian submission specialist Baga Agaev has vowed to win in ‘spectacular fashion’ as he takes on Trevor Prangley in what promises to be a technical battle between these two seasoned fighters. Having held the belts for Strikeforce, MFC, Shark Fights, and Bodog, two time All American College Wrestler and South African National Champion Prangley can not afford to underestimate the dangerous Russian prospect who boasts a 3-1 record against UFC vets.

Doug Marshall V Zelg Galesic (MW)
Former WEC Light Heavyweight champion Doug Marshall faces DREAM vet and former Cage Rage Middleweight champion, explosive Croatian striker Zelg Galesic. In a match up with fight of the night chemistry, both these hard hitters will be looking for the KO.

Lena Ovchynnikova V Joanne Calderwood (125 lb)
World class Muay Thai fighter and current IKF European Flyweight Kickboxing Champion Joanne Calderwood takes on 24 year old Ukrainian Lena Ovchynnikova who is focused on regaining her winning streak following a loss at SFL 1. With previous SFL women’s bouts being fight of the night contenders, expect this one to be no different.

SFL founder Raj Kundra said: ‘SFL 3 stands to be the best so far. We’re hosting SFL 3 in one of India’s best indoor stadiums – the IGI in New Delhi with a 10,000 capacity. We have a fantastic main event with SFL 1 champion James Thomson Vs Bob Lashley so tune in to see the action!’

Super Fight League 3 is scheduled for May 6, 2012 at the IGI Stadium in New Delhi. Fans can watch the full event live over the web at the official SFL Youtube channel at youtube.com/SFL.

In a release announcing the event, SFL CEO Ken Pavio had this to say about the event.

“And the hits just keep on coming. We have had such success with HW Main Events we decided to sign former WWE champ Lashley to face our SFL winner in Thompson. With two guys this big and strong this fight could end with the blink of an eye. We are very excited to have what we expect to be very competitive stand up affairs in the two other non Indian fights. The WEC champ in Rhino v The Cage Rage Champ in Galesic in one fight and Russian super prospect Baga against battle tested Prangley, a former champ in four major organizations in the other. We are also looking forward to seeing Lena back in action after her show stealing performance in our first event and she isn’t getting an easy fight as we are bringing in a world class striker in Calderwood to test her.”

Also featured on the card is a light heavyweight bout between South African Trevor Prangley (23-9) and Russian star Baga Agaev (26-11). While middleweights Doug Marshall (14-5) and Croatian striker Zelg Galesic (10-6) will also meet. Also featured will be a women’s flyweight match between Ukrainian Lena Ovchynnikova (8-1) and Scottish kickboxer Joanne Calderwood (1-0).

Alexander Shlemenko Beats Ikuhisa Minowa For Eighth Straight Victory, Wants To “Kill” Hector Lombard Next

Russian middleweight Alexander ‘Storm’ Shlemenko (45-7) is a man on a mission, he is itching for a rematch with Bellator champ Hector Lombard after their first meeting back in October 2010 at Bellator 34 where Lombard defeated ‘Storm’ by decision. Shlemenko is still waiting for that fight to happen so in the meantime he is taking his frustrations out on various opponents around the world.

Currently his latest victim was Japanese fighter, and former Super Hulk tournament winner, Ikuhisa Minowa. The two met at the Super Fight League 2 card in India today (April 7, 2012), with Shlemenko picking up his eighth straight win after stopping ‘Minowaman’ by first round TKO.

When asked to comment on the win ‘Storm’ had four words to say, “Hector, I kill you.”

Hopefully Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney can work something out with Hector so ‘Storm’ can get his wish.
