Touted as a massive threat at the strawweight limit amid her triumphant return to action, unbeaten contender, Tatiana Suarez has vowed to submit division champion, Zhang Weili in a future championship clash – calling for a slot on the UFC 306 card in September at the Las Vegas Sphere.
Suarez, the current number one ranked strawweight contender and victor of The Ultimate Fighter 23, turned in her seventh consecutive victory under the promotion’s banner back in August of last year at UFC Fight Night Nashville, turning in a stunning guillotine choke submission win over former division champion, Jessica Andrade.
The victory came as Suarez’s second of the year, following a prior submission success against Montana De La Rosa in February – which marked her first outing inside the Octagon in over four year following a torrid run of consecutive injury setbacks.
Tatiana Suarez eyes UFC 306 title fight with Zhang Weili
Forced from a potential title-eliminator against another former title challenger, Amanda Lemos back in February at UFC 298, Suarez insists she’s ready for a championship chase against the incumbent, Weili – specifically at UFC 306 during Mexican Independence Day weekend.
“They need someone to fight for the title, and why not somebody who’s undefeated, has an amazing story, strong grappler, and something that she (Zhang Weili) really hasn’t faced yet?” Tatiana Suarez told ESPN. “A tall, long, rangy person that actually has very good Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling – something that she’s really developed, and now she’s beating everybody with her wrestling.”
“I think I get a submission, 100 percent,” Tatiana Suarez explained. “I think I will sub her – either a submission or a TKO. I heard they’re [the UFC] going to China in August, but that’s not a pay-per-view card. So, I don’t know if maybe in September at The Sphere – that’d be amazing, especially because I am Mexican, and that’d be a good fight to have.”
Who wins in a future title showdown: Zhang Weili or Tatiana Suarez?

Unbeaten strawweight divisional contender, Tatiana Suarez has claimed her most recent setback which has forced her from a UFC 298 return against former title challenger, Amanda Lemos is only minor, as she looks to return to training and competition in a matter of a few months.
Suarez, the current number three ranked strawweight contender, enjoyed a blistering run in her return to the Octagon last year for the first time since 2019, wrapping up a pair of eye-catching submission wins.
Most recently featuring at UFC Fight Night Nashville back in August of last year, Suarez turned in her tenth consecutive victory, stopping former division champon, Jessica Andrade in her return to the strawweight limit.
And booked to make her return in a potential title-eliminator against most recent championship challenger, Lemos at UFC 298 in February, Suarez was forced to withdraw from the bout with the Brazilian finisher, with grappling ace, Mackenzie Dern replacing the Californian on short-notice.
Tatiana Suarez expecting quickfire return
Providing an update on her injury and setback from a return at UFC 298 in Anaheim, Suarez reassured her followers that this setback was only a “minor” one.
“I’m making this post because I know there are many people who support me that are concerned,” Tatiana Suarez posted on her official Instagram account. “I won’t be out for long. A minor setback. I asked to postpone just a few weeks so I could heal up and train. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Sometimes it’s just not meant to be. I apologize to @amandalemos_ufc some things are just out of our control. Injuries happen it’s part of the game. I’m thankful it’s not something that will keep me out for an extended amount of time.”
“All I can do now is focus on the things I can control and that’s stay on the grind,” Tatiana Suarez continued. “Mentally focused and continously learning and evolving. Doing what I can and striving for greatness every day. Even if that’s a lift, a mitt session or simply watching film. I’ll continue to make my run this year. 2024. Thank you for your support.”

Undefeated strawweight standout Tatiana Suarez will return to the Octagon on February 17.
Emanating from the Honda Center in Anaheim, UFC 298 will be headlined by a featherweight title tilt pitting reigning world champion Alexander Volkanovski against streaking contender Ilia Topuria. The event will also feature the return of former champ-champ Henry Cejudo as he meets Merab Dvalishvili.
Per a report from Aaron Bronsteter, Suarez will look to solidify herself as a future title challenger when she meets Amanda Lemos as part of the promotion’s return to The Golden State.
Tatiana Suarez (7-0 UFC, 10-0 MMA) made her promotional debut on The Ultimate Fighter season 23 and ran through the competition, scoring wins over Chelsea Bailey, JJ Aldrich, and Kate Jackson en route to the strawweight tournament final against Amanda Cooper. Suarez would go on to win the bout via a first-round darce choke.
She would earn four more wins before a devastating neck injury put her on the sidelines for almost four years.
Since then, she has returned to the Octagon, picking up right where she left off by earning back-to-back second-round guillotine choke submission victories over Montana De La Rosa and Jessica Andrade.
Amanda Lemos Looks to Bounce Back against Tatiana Suarez
Amanda Lemos (7-3 UFC, 13-3-1 MMA) will look to bounce back after coming up short in her first UFC title bid in August. Reigning strawweight world champion Zhang Weili handled Lemos with ease. Despite the setback, Lemos has proven herself to be a formidable foe in the division by earning wins over Marina Rodrigues, ‘The Karate Hottie’ Michelle Waterson-Gomez, and Angela Hill.
Lemos only has two losses dating back to 2019, both coming against current or former UFC champions. ‘Amandinha’ will be determined to get herself back into the title picture at UFC 298, and there is no bigger fight to do that than once against Tatiana Suarez.

And with a host of strawweight talent laying in the wings awaiting a title fight with Weili, the Chinese all-rounder has welcomed the prospect of sharing the Octagon with undefeated Ultimate Fighter winner, Suarez next.
“She’s good,” Zhang Weili told assembled media of Tatiana Suarez following UFC 292. “She’s undefeated. She’s a very good fighter. I think she can be a potentially challenger next.”
“I started my training camp this time since March, so I left my home for a couple months – such a long time,” Zhang Weili explained. “The only thing in my mind right now is just returning to home together with my family.”
Improving her undefeated record to 10-0 this year following her return from an over three year layoff, Californian grappling ace, Suarez returned with a guillotine choke win over Montana De La Rosa back in February, before submitting former champions and common-foe, Jessica Andrade with the same choke at UFC Nashville just earlier this month.

Tatiana Suarez stakes her claim for a shot at strawweight gold ahead of UFC 292
With one eye locked on next weekend’s UFC 292 co-headliner and strawweight title fight between incumbent and two-time champion, Zhang Weili, and surging Brazilian force, Amanda Lemos, Suarez has laid out plans for her own shot at Octagon gold.
“I just want a title shot because I think that it’s been a long time coming,” Tatiana Suarez told MMA Fighting. “I’ve worked worked my way up twice now. The first time, I didn’t have the opportunity to do that. I got my win over Nina (Nunes) and then I was injured and I was out for three years, and I didn’t have the opportunity to event fight for the belt.”
“And then I did it all over again,” Tatiana Suarez explained. “I worked my way up. I told theme [the UFC] whatever they want to give me, and I did it. Whatever they’ve asked, I’ve done.”
During her initial run through the strawweight limit, Suarez racked up notable divisional victories over the likes of current flyweight champion, Alexa Grasso, as well as former two-time strawweight championship holder, Carla Esparza.
