Martin DesiletsFans not familiar with The Fight Club light-heavyweight champion, Martin “The Stress” Desilets (10-2), may become much more familiar with the French Canadian fighter if he puts on a good performance this Friday night. A win might vault Desilets into a Bellator Fighting Championship cage in the near future.

Desilets will defend his title in a rematch with former UFC fighter Victor “The Matrix” Valimaki (16-6) in the main event of The Fight Club’s latest event, “TFC 11: Full Force”, at the Shaw Conference Center in downtown Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The Quebec fighter defeated Valimaki at the last TFC event in March of this year by TKO (punches) in the first round.

The MMA News had a chance to speak with “The Stress” through his interpreter at the TFC 11 weigh-ins to talk about his title defense, as well as his future.

The MMA News: How do you feel about your rematch with Victor Valimaki?

Martin Desilets: I feel really good about it and I can’t wait.

The MMA News: Do you think this fight will be similar to the first one?

Martin Desilets: If he’s aggressive I think it could be done in the fist round. I’ll go hard too, but otherwise I’ll go with the flow.

The MMA News: If you get another win over Valimaki, what do you think is next for you?

Martin Desilets: I had a call already from Bellator (Fighting Championships), so I’m just getting my paperwork ready and I might go to Europe for a little bit also.

The MMA News: If you could face anyone, who would your dream opponent be?

Martin Desilets: There are too many great fighters to name just one opponent, but Krzysztof Soszynski (is someone I’d like to face).

The MMA News: Since were talking about Bellator, is there anyone you’d like to debut against?

Martin Desilets: I really don’t know the fighters in Bellator, but I’m willing to face anyone.

The MMA News: With the sanctioning of mixed martial arts in Ontario, could fans expect you to fight more often in that province in the future?

Martin Desilets: Yes, for sure I’d fight in Ontario. If I’m given the right fight and the right price, I’ll go. Fighting close to home will let my friends and family come out to watch me fight, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Five years ago Ryan Ford’s goals and priorities were much different than they are today.

Back then he didn’t have anyone to answer to but the man in the mirror and his motivation for bettering himself was to help plead his case for parole.

Having grown up straddling the poverty line while raised alongside his younger brother and sister by a hard working single mother, Ford was enticed by the gangster lifestyle, partially due to the fact that he lacked a male role model in his life, partially because he grew up without and partially because he had been fooled by Hollywood into believing that being a criminal can be glamorous.

A lifelong athlete, Ford, who was a standout on the high school gridiron and track, was recruited along with a handful of his junior football teammates to be debt collectors for a powerful drug dealer in his hometown of Abbotsford, British Columbia. Although none of them had criminal pasts besides minor brushes with the law as teenagers for being, well, irresponsible teenagers, they were far from being thugs. But because they were a tough, muscular brood and they knew how to bully and to intimidate – skills they developed on the football field, they figured, why not make some easy money using their physical assets.

The problem was, they were all young and none of them really knew what they were doing aside from what they had seen the guys in movies do and they proved just how little experience they had being criminals as they botched a collection visit in which a small-time dealer who owed their boss a substantial amount of money was assaulted in front of his wife and children while the three men searched his home for the cash and drugs. The man’s wife escaped the house and called police from a relative’s home and the trio were caught as they fled the scene.

Edmonton, Alberta (Canada): Rising Canadian fight promotion The Fight Club (TFC) today announced the finalized fight card for their next event, “TFC 11: Full Force.” This exciting event will take place on Friday, September 10th at the Shaw Conference Center. In the main event, one of the most anticipated rematches in Canadian MMA history will commence, as newly-minted TFC Light Heavyweight Champion Martin “The Stress” Desilets (10-2) and UFC veteran Victor “The Matrix” Valimaki (16-6) will lock horns for the belt. Also on the line will be the TFC Canadian Lightweight Championship as undefeated Edmonton native Mitch Clarke (7-0) will battle Josh Machan (7-3). In addition, top Canadian welterweight Ryan “The Kid” McGillivray (10-4-1) will put his talents on display against three-time TFC veteran Markhaile “Showtime” Wedderburn (10-7), who will be taking the place of the injured Adam Lynn (13-8). Doors for this exciting nine-fight event will open at 7 PM, and the fights will begin at 8 PM. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster, http://www.thefightclub.ca/, or (780) 451-8000.

In their first bout, which took place at “TFC 10: High Octane” this past March, Martin Desilets and Victor Valimaki laid it all on the line, throwing punches with abandon. In the end, Desilets was able to outlast his foe en route to a TKO victory with only ten seconds left in the first round. He gained Valimaki’s light heavyweight strap in the process. Check out the full fight here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEVf9dK3NR4. Now, these two will look to exceed their performances from their first fight at “Full Force.” Valimaki will attempt to regain his lost crown, while Desilets will do everything he can to hold onto it. Regardless of who comes out on top, the true winners will be the fans.

In a battle for the TFC Canadian Lightweight title, the undefeated Mitch Clarke (6-0), a native of Edmonton, will fight Josh Machan (7-3, seven straight victories), who hails from Red Deer, Alberta. This scrap features two top young Canadian lightweights, and is sure to electrify the crowd.

With the TFC World Welterweight Title declared vacant due to the departure of Ryan Ford from the organization, TFC’s top welterweight contender, Ryan “The Kid” McGillivray, is now in the spotlight. “The Kid” has only been competing in mixed martial arts for the past four years, but has quickly established himself as one of the top Canadian prospects in the welterweight division. All of Ryan’s fights have been in and around his hometown of Edmonton, so he is very well-known in the local MMA community, and he has built a loyal and enthusiastic fan base. And with eight of his ten victories coming via submission, fans know that they can always expect an exciting fight for McGillivray. He’ll be facing a strong Muay Thai fighter in Markhaile “Showtime” Wedderburn. This tough Canadian fighter has fought top 170ers such as Ford, Jason High, and Dan Grandmaison. It will truly be a test for “The Kid.”

Here is the finalized fight card:
Light-heavyweight: Champion Martin Desilets (10-2) vs. Victor Valimaki (16-6) for the TFC World Light Heayweight title
Lightweight: Mitch Clarke (7-0) vs. Josh Machan (7-3) for the TFC Canadian Lightweight title
Welterweight: Ryan McGillivray (10-4-1) vs. Markhaile Wedderburn (10-7)
Welterweight: Ryan Machan (11-5) vs. James McCutcheon (3-2)
Welterweight: Rio Wells (3-0) vs. Chuck Pelc (2-1)
Women’s 130lb: Sy Jewett (1-0) vs. Rachael Swaetz (3-1)
Welterweight: Darcy Boizard (1-1) vs. O’Denva Phillips (0-0)
140 lbs: Reece Chapman (0-0) vs. Adam Bodwell (0-0)
Lightweight: Steve Beaumont (0-0) vs. Dean Cox (0-0)

The event will be shown on The Fight Network on tape delay, and news on a press conference will be announced soon. For more information, please visit our website at http://www.thefightclub.ca/

Top Canadian fight promotion The Fight Club (TFC) today announced the addition of a clash between top Canadian welterweight Ryan “The Kid” McGillivray (10-4-1) and Strikeforce/WEC/IFL/KOTC veteran Adam Lynn (13-8) to it’s fight line-up for “TFC 11: Full Force,” which will take place on Friday September 10th. The “Full Force” main event will showcase a rematch between TFC Light Heavyweight Champion Martin “The Stress” Desilets and UFC veteran Victor “The Matrix” Valimaki. The belt will be on the line as these two lock horns once again, as TFC 11 will be held at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. Doors will open at 7 PM, and the fights will begin at 8 PM. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster, http://www.thefightclub.ca/, or (780) 451-8000.

With the TFC World Welterweight Title declared vacant due to the departure of Ryan Ford from the organization, TFC’s top welterweight contender, Ryan “The Kid” McGillivray (10-4-1), is now in the spotlight.

“We have a number of really talented welterweights competing now for a shot at our title. One of them is certainly Ryan McGillivray,” said TFC President Mark Sinclair. “Ryan is coming off a big win over Calgary’s Andrew Buckland, and will now get a chance at “TFC 11: Full Force” to test himself against a world class welterweight in Adam Lynn.”

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Adam Lynn (13-8) now lives in Orange County, California. Prior to getting into MMA, Adam served in the U.S. Marines from 1998 until 2002. Not surprisingly, with Adam’s MMA background, he wasn’t a cook or navigator in the Marines, but rather a heavy machine-gunner.

“It was a pretty cool job,” says Lynn, who also states he did not get into the fighting arts through the marines’ unarmed combat training. “I had a guy in my platoon who was a judo black belt – the marines really had nothing to do with it; during off-time, we would get together and he would show me some stuff, and that’s how I got started. Then I pushed it from there.”

Lynn has competed for some of top MMA promotions, including the WEC, IFL, Strikeforce and King of the Cage. He has competed against some of the sport’s top names, including Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz, Jay Hieron, Rich Crunkilton, and Josh Thomson. After the disappointing loss to Thomson at Strikeforce’s “Playboy Mansion” event last year, Lynn has won two straight, with his most recent fight in May of this year at KOTC’s “Excessive Damage,” where he won a hard-fought decision over standout Ricky “IE Bad Boy” Legere, Jr. (12-4).

With both McGillivray and Lynn coming off the biggest wins of their careers, and with a possible title shot looming, the fans in attendance for “TFC 11: Full Force” on September 10th will be in for what is sure to be a tornado of a fight.

Here is the fight card as it stands now:
• 205 lbs: Champion Martin Desilets (10-2) vs. Victor Valimaki (16-6) for the TFC World Light Heayweight title
• 170 lbs: Ryan McGillivray (10-4-1) vs. Adam Lynn (13-8)
• 155 lbs: Mitch Clarke (7-0) vs. Josh Machan (7-3) for the TFC Canadian Lightweight title
• 170 lbs: Ryan Machan (11-5) vs. James McCutcheon (3-2)
• 170 lb: Rio Wells (3-0) vs. Chuck Pelc (2-1)

Look for additional fights to be announced for “Full Force” in the coming weeks. The event will be shown on The Fight Network on tape delay, and news on a press conference will be announced soon. For more information, please visit our website at http://www.thefightclub.ca/
