Conor McGregor punches out Miami Heat mascot during NBA Finals UFC

Former undisputed UFC lightweight and featherweight champion, Conor McGregor took to the basketball court last night at the Keseya Center in Miami, Florida – punching out the mascot of the Miami Heat team, Burnie, with a series of mid-court strikes.

McGregor, a former two-weight champion under the banner of the UFC, has been sidelined from active competition since he headlined UFC 264 back in July 2021, suffering a fractured left tibia and fibula en route to a doctor’s stoppage TKO loss against former interim lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier.

Conor McGregor linked with Octagon return against Michael Chandler

Expected to make his Octagon return later this year – if not early next year, the Dubliner has been linked to a welterweight fight against former lightweight title challenger, Michael Chandler, having served as an opposing coach to the MIssouri native during The Ultimate Fighter 31 earlier this year.

Appearing at the Keseya Center in Miami last night during the NBA Finals, McGregor, who was promoting Tidl recovery spray – laid out Burnie – the Miami Heat mascot with a massive overhand left shot, before following up with a huge ground strike. To add insult to injury, Conor McGregor then showered the mascot in Tidl sports recovery spray as he was dragged off the court by bystanders.

Without a victory inside the Octagon since January 2020, McGregor’s most recent win came in the form of a first round high-kick and strikes stoppage of incoming UFC Hall of Fame inductee, Donald Cerrone, stopping the veteran Colorado native inside just 40-seconds at the welterweight limit to boot.

In his expected Octagon comeback, McGregor, a former two-weight champion, will be tasked with rebounding from a two-fight losing run for the first time in his professional mixed martial arts career.

Despite finding himself tied to a fight with former lightweight title challenger, Michael Chandler all year, former UFC champion, Conor McGregor has been tipped to abandon the matchup in pursuit of a bigger name, according to ex-champion, Henry Cejudo.

McGregor a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the banner of the UFC, has been sidelined since he headlined a July 2021 event against Dustin Poirier, fracturing his left tibia and fibula – resulting in a doctor’s stoppage TKO loss.

In his last outing, Chandler suffered a third round rear-naked choke submission defeat to common-foe, Poirier as the two squared off at UFC 281 in November of last year at Madison Square Garden.

As for Cejudo, the former flyweight and bantamweight champion snapped a three year hiatus from the sport back in May, suffering a close, split decision defeat to reigning bantamweight best, Aljamain Sterling.

Conor McGregor backed to turn down Michael Chandler fight

However, despite the fact Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler have been tied to a potential December fight at the welterweight limit all year, Cejudo laid out a scenario in which the former actually abandons a fight with Chandler for his return.

“I could see them skipping (Michael) Chandler,” Henry Cejudo told The Schmo during a recent interview. “I could see Conor (McGregor) just saying, ‘Hey, I’m gonna want this guy’. Chandler’s entertaining, but he’s not a big name. There’s no UFC belt, around him. He’s not a legend in the UFC. He’s an entertainment of the UFC, but he hasn’t got there yet.”

Without a victory since UFC 246 back in January of 2020, McGregor most recently landed a 40-second high kick and strikes stoppage win over incoming UFC Hall of Fame inductee, Donald Cerrone

Conor McGregor cruises Mediterreanean parties with Rick Ross UFC return

Former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor has taken his family on a cruise around the Mediterranean this week – taking in the scenery around the Basin after UFC president, Dana White appeared less than committal on a date for the Dubliner’s return to the Octagon.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the banner of the UFC, recently returned to television last week, as the premiere of The Ultimate Fighter 31 aired on ESPN – with the 34-year-old featuring as an opposing coach on the reality television show against former lightweight title chaser, Michael Chandler.

Sidelined from the Octagon since July 2021, Conor McGregor suffered a fractured left tibia and fibula en route to a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss against former interim lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

And while the counter striker had outlined a return to active competition by December of this year, Conor McGregor’s expected date for a return fight with Chandler at the welterweight limit, has been cast into further uncertainty, with UFC leader, White claiming it has been difficult to “reel” the ex-champion in.

“We have a massive roster fo people that want to come in and people that are ready to fight and people that want to be Conor McGregor,” Dana White told assembled media following UFC Vegas 74. “And be at that level. It’s like for the last 20 years everybody said, ‘Oh my God, what are you guys going to do when Chuck Liddell retires? You guys are f*cked. Oh my God. GSP. Anderson Silva. This and that.’”

“First of all, Conor called me a couple of days ago and loved the first episode of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ and saying how happy he was to be a part of it,” White explained. “And I think being here and part of the environment and everything else, he felt it again and felt like he wants to get back to fight. The one thing you guys have to understand is this kid has so much money. It’s like Khabib now. These guys got sh*tloads of money and it’s hard to reel these guys in and get them to get in and fight.”

In the wake of White’s comments, McGregor – who recently attended a Formula One Grand Prix in Monte Carlo, shared footage of him cruising around the Mediterranean with members of his family, with fans and members of the mixed martial arts community again distancing the Dubliner from a comeback to fighting. The Ultimate Fighter season 31, coached by Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler debuts at an average of 294,000 viewers.

Last Tuesday marked the return of McGregor coaching on TUF, eight years on from his first season (22) when he was pitted against Urijah Faber. Recent viewing figures revealed that it averaged close to 300,000 viewers and was the 11th most popular show that day. According to the Nielsen rating system, the episode received .14 market shared in the 18–49-year-old demographic.

These figures are down considerably from McGregor’s first appearance on the show, the debuting episode of season 22 reached an average viewership of 622,000. However, the viewership numbers are still up considerably from the last available figures for a season of TUF, which was season 28. Robert Whittaker coached opposite Kelvin Gastelum and their debuting episode averaged 186,000.

The next episode of the series is set to air later tonight and will pick up following Roosevelt Roberts eight-second knockout of Nate Jennerman. This series difference from previous as it has not just rising prospects, but also features former UFC fighters such as Roberts, who are looking for a way back to the promotion.

Conor McGregor’s return to fighting

When news broke that McGregor would be coaching on TUF, it seemed that we would definitely get a fight along with it at some point this year. However, even with the first episode having aired, McGregor has not even re-entered back into the USADA testing pool, which he would have to do to be eligible to fight in the UFC.

Even with both UFC President Dana White and McGregor himself having been insistent on an announcement coming soon, nothing seems imminent and ‘The Notorious’ does not appear to be in training camp.

Conor McGregor plots high kick KO win over Michael Chandler you'll see his head hanging off UFC

Ahead of his incoming Octagon return before the close of the year, former duel-weight champion, Conor McGregor has predicted a high kick knockout win over Michael Chandler in their hotly-anticipated UFC clash – claiming the Missouri native appears susceptible to his predicted land.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight titleholder, has been sidelined from active competition since he headlined UFC 264 back in July 2021, suffering a fractured left tibia and fibula en route to a doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to common-foe, Dustin Poirier.

As for Chandler, the Kill Cliff FC trainee has yet to feature since he suffered a submission loss to former interim gold holder, Poirier at UFC 281 last November at Madison Square Garden – dropping a third round rear-naked choke blemish.

Yet to officially book a date for their expected welterweight clash, McGregor has hinted at a December comeback to active competition – with a flagship UFC 296 card currently targeted for the final month of 2023.

Conor McGregor predicts high kick knockout win over Michael Chandler

Offering a prediction ahead of his outing with Chandler, McGregor, who previously touted himself as “too slicy” for the former, claimed a high kick knockout is a likely path to success for him in their eventual showdown.

“This is gonna be – I’m gonna kick this guy (Michael Chandler) in the head,” Conor McGregor told UFC roving reporter, Megan Olivi during a recent interview. “He’s just tailor-made to be kicked all over the place. That’s what I’m aiming for. I’m aiming to wrap this steel bar around an opponent.”

“You’re going to see a visual of the leg hanging off, and then you’re going to see a visual of a head hanging off,” Conor McGregor explained. “You know, so – I’m excited for it, and motivated for it. And steadily making my way towards it.”

Without a victory since January 2020, incidentally, McGregor’s most recent victory came in the form of a 40-second high-kick and strikes TKO win over incoming UFC Hall of Fame inductee, Donald Cerrone at the welterweight limit.
