Conor McGregor claims UFC are keeping him from his livelihood

Ex-two-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor appeared to lobby promotional executive, Ari Emanuel to make contact with the Nevada State Athletic Commission regarding his continued absence from the Octagon, claiming he is being kept from his livelihood.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the banner of the UFC, has been sidelined from active competition since he headlined UFC 264 back in July 2021, suffering a fractured left tibia and fibula in a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO defeat to Dustin Poirier in the pair’s trilogy rubber match.

Yet to make his Octagon return in the time since, McGregor, 35, is expected to fight former lightweight title challenger, Michael Chandler in his return, however, the Dubliner has yet to officially book a comeback, and at the time of publication, has yet to submit an anti-doping test sample to UFC partners, USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency). 

Conor McGregor calls for clarification on his fighting future

Ruling out a planned and earmarked return on December 16. at UFC 296 – the organization’s final flagship event of the year, McGregor has claimed he is being “kept from my [his] livelihood” – urging UFC exec, Emanuel to attempt to get the wheels in motion for his return.

“They’re not – they’re not going to let me fight in December, ladies and gentleman,” Conor McGregor said in a voice note posted on his official X account. “You seen what happened to Chris Weidman? Imagine what that injury is and to be kept – I feel like I’ve been kept from my livelihood.”

“But anyway, I hold the power, we’re just gonna keep on doing out thing,” Conor McGregor continued. “Like I said, I’m in a great spot and I’ll see you all soon, hopefully early next year. Please God, come one. Ari, Ari [Emanuel] – I’m ready, yeah. December 16. I’m ready if anyone wants dough. Nevada State Athletic Commission and Bob Bennett – retired. Un-retire. Ring Bob Bennett, tell the commission what’s the story. Because I’m being kept from my livelihood here. And turns out, Bob’s retired and I’m like, ‘What the f*ck?’”

Vowing to make a return to the Octagon as soon as December, the Crumlin counter striker is expected to attend UFC 292 this weekend in Boston, Massachusetts, with lightweight and bantamweight tournament finales set – amid continued speculation regarding an impending announcement on his return to the sport.

And in a late-night series of posts on his official X account, McGregor issued a stark warning to Chandler, vowing to land devastating shots on the crown of the Missouri veteran.

“I’ve industrial steel in my leg now, and I’ve long natural steel in the shoulders and elbows and knuckles of the fist,” Conor McGregor posted. “I’m over ¾ steel. And steel crushes iron. Crushes the little bones in iron’s face. Out with the iron you little bosu ball motivational speakin’ handbag.”

“I’m not messing one bit, the bones at the top of my shoulders, break faces and noses and teeth easily,” Conor McGregor posted. “I’d fancy them to break a jaw handy, isn’t that just crazy. It’s like they are made of a steel of some kind. #ShoudlersMcGregor.”

Still yet to officially book a planned return to the Octagon against Michael Chandler, former two-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor has certainly upped the intensity of his rivalry with the former – growling at him during a tense face-off in their reality television finale of The Ultimate FIghter 31.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight titleholder under the banner of the UFC, has been sidelined since he fractured his left tibia and fibula in a opening round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 back in July 2021.

As for Chandler, the former three-time Bellator MMA lightweight champion has yet to make his return to action since himself suffering a loss to Lafayette native, Poirier back in November of last year at Madison Square Garden, suffering a third round rear-naked choke submission loss.

And despite the fact he has yet to book an official return against Chandler at the welterweight limit under the UFC banner, McGregor recently claimed he would be fighting the Kill Cliff FC staple in December – potentially at a final UFC 296 event for the Dana White-led organization.

“This is the biggest comeback in sports history,” Conor McGregor said. “You know, what I came through – what I’ve attained. I’m very excited for it and I’m very confident for it. I look forward to the fight – I wish it was right now.” 

Prior to his doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to Poirier, McGregor suffered his first professional knockout loss in mixed martial arts in a lightweight rematch against the Louisana native back in January of that year in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

In the wake of his continued, drawn-out hiatus from combat sports, Conor McGregor’s status in mixed martial arts has most certainly taken some form of a hit, according to former middleweight champion, Michael Bisping, who reminds the Dubliner that all the money in the world can not buy him another UFC lightweight crown.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the banner of the UFC, has been sidelined since he took main event status at UFC 264 back in July 2021, on that occasion suffering a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss Dustin Poirier after he fractured his left tibia and fibula in the opening round.

Sidelined in the time since, McGregor, who turned 35-years-old last month, has been long-linked with a welterweight division return in a planned clash against former title challenger, Michael Chandler – with the two serving as opposing coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 31 earlier this year. 

However, while the reality television series’ finale takes place at next weekend’s UFC 292 pay-per-view card in Boston, Massachusetts, the promotion have yet to confirm a date, location, nor event for a planned matchup of McGregor and Chandler.

And according to British veteran and Hall of Fame inductee, Bisping, a lengthy layoff for McGregor has led to a certain drop in respect he can garner from his peers.

“He (Conor McGregor) loves fighting but… all the money in the world can buy a lot of things,” Michael Bisping told The Daily Star. “But he can’t buy a lightweight championship and money can’t buy your respect in the fight game. I’m not saying he doesn’t have respect, but it’s dipped.”

“It certainly has depending on who you speak to – and I think he wants to (get that back),” Bisping continued. “As fighters, we pride ourselves in our fighting ability.”

Former two-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor, has claimed the organization are no longer interested in a planned bout between him and former lightweight title challenger, MIchael Chandler, next, with the Dubliner insisting nevertheless, that he is willing to clash with “anyone” in his planned return.

McGregor a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the banner of the UFC, has been sidelined from active competition since July 2021, fracturing his left tibia and fibula en route to a doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to common-foe, Dustin Poirier in the opening round of their trilogy rubber match.

Earlier this year, the pair served as opposing coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 31 – with a matchup at the welterweight limit between the two expected to take place at the time of publication.

However, in the days and weeks following former interim lightweight champion, Justin Gaethje’s stunning symbolic BMF title win over the aforenoted, Poirier at UFC 291 at the end of July – McGregor has fast switched his attention to a bout with the Arizonian, appearing to veto a bout with Chandler

And overnight, the Dubliner has now claimed that the UFC are no longer interested in a bout between him and Chandler, however, insisted that if they truly wanted him to fight the latter, he would.

“I’ll do it if they (the UFC) want, no prob,” Conor McGregor posted on his official X account. “I don’t think they want him (Michael Chandler) no more tho. There’s loads of juicy fights around and my return date is my return date. I never gave a f*ck about who it was. Ever. I’ll fight anyone. I’ll even fly them to me, ask (Paulie) Malinaggi (Malignaggi). Flown in and bet around.”

Off the back of his team’s seventh consecutive victory on The Ultimate Fighter 31 earlier this week, lightweight veteran, Michael Chandler appears puzzled still amid the failure of any significant progress on a bout with ex-champion, Conor McGregor, questioning the newly-turned 35-year-old.

Chandler, the current number five ranked lightweight contender, has yet to return to the Octagon since featuring on the main card of UFC 281 back in November at Madison Square Garden, suffering an eventual third round rear-naked choke loss to common-foe, Dustin Poirier.

Himself sidelined for the last two years, McGregor, who turned 35 years old today, has yet to make a return to the Octagon since suffering a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO defeat to former interim champion, Poirier – fracturing his left tibia and fibula in the opening frame to boot.

Featuring as an opposing coach on TUF 31 against Missouri veteran, Michael Chandler on the reality television show earlier this year, Crumlin striker, McGregor saw his team slump to 0-7 on this season of the showcase earlier this week.

Linked with a potential December return against Chandler at the final flagship event of the year at UFC 296 at the T-Mobile Arena at the welterweight limit – McGregor, at the time of publication, has yet to submit any drug test samples to anti-doping agency, USADA. 

With UFC president, Dana White has failed to rule out granting an exemption to allow McGregor to return to competition without spending a six-month period within the USADA testing pool, however, news of an official event, location, or date for a planned bout has yet to follow.

Growing tired of a lack of activity on a bout with former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion, McGregor, Chandler questioned the presence of the Dubliner on his official social media overnight.
