Ahead of his expected Octagon return against former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor later this year – #5 lightweight contender, Michael Chandler believes he and the Dubliner can smash the all time UFC pay-per-view sales record – leapfrogging the former’s 2018 battle with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Chandler, the current #5 rated lightweight challenger and a one-time vacant lightweight title challenger – most recently featured on the main card of UFC 281 back in November at Madison Square Garden, suffering a rear-naked choke loss to Dustin Poirier.

Himself also facing former interim gold holder, Poirier back in July 2021, McGregor suffered a fractured left tibia and fibula in a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to the Lafayette native in their UFC 264 trilogy rubber match.

Wrapping up filming on The Ultimate Fighter 31 earlier this month, Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor are expected to fight later this annum, with a September showdown briefly floated, however, the promotion are yet to determine a date or event for the expected welterweight fight.

Sharing his thoughts on the earmarked bout with Crumlin native, McGregor, Chandler claimed he and the 34-year-old former lightweight and featherweight champion could break the UFC’s pay-per-view buyrate record.

“If you look at the numbers, I think two million [pay-per-view buys] – it’s not just a possibility, I think it’s very acheviebale and very attainable,” Michael Chandler said on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. “It’s hard for me toot my own horn, but I think what I’ve created is a level of intrigue and mystique that, when is how up on fight night and that cage door closes, all hell breaks loose. …”

“So, you look at why this fight got made – Conor (McGregor) knows it’s going to do big numbers… Everybody is turning in, everybody is buying the pay-per-view for that night, that moment, that opportunity. The build up and lead-up to this thing, [it] could be the biggest pay-per-view that we’ve ever seen. Obviously I am a wishful thinking, [but] I have confident expectancy for myself to show up and build this thing. The buzz for the next season of TUF is officially here and while we have just seen much, the odd update here and small clip there, one of the seasons coaches, McGregor, just released the first face-off between him and Chandler.

Following the end of the season, McGregor and Chandler are expected to battle it out at 170lbs, marking the Irishman’s first fight since suffering a horrific leg break against Dustin Poirier. While neither man has had the best run of form recently, the stylistic matchup paired with a competitive feud which has built over the season suggests fans are in for a treat.

The season is set to commence on May 30 and will be a 12 episode season, so far we have only heard of a scuffle between the teams that had to be separated by the Nevada State Athletic commission.

We had an issue,” said McGregor. “Obviously, tempers are flaring. It’s a f**king hostile thing. There’s nothing but respect and admiration. I like his style. He likes my style. Conor McGregor calls himself the GOAT UFC

Former two-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor has touted himself as the greatest of all time ahead of his impending Octagon return later this year – claiming he will grow goatee facial hair in a bid to back up his outlandish claims.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the banner of the UFC, is expected to make his Octagon comeback later this year in a welterweight against current #5 ranked lightweight contender, Michael Chandler.

While an official location, date, or event for McGregor’s expected fight with Chandler has yet to be determined by the promotion, the duo recently wrapped up filming for The Ultimate Fighter 31 earlier this month – ahead of a May premiere on ESPN+ and ESPN the network. 

The Dubliner has been sidelined since July 2021, headlining UFC 264 against former interim champion, Dustin Poirier – fracturing his left tibia and fibula en route to a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO defeat. 

Yet to return to the USADA testing pool nor provide two negative drug tests, McGregor has called for the anti-doping agency to be disbanded – claiming they will not be the be-all and end-all regarding his expected Octagon comeback later this annum.

And ahead of his return, McGregor has proclaimed that he is, in fact, the greatest mixed marital artist of all time, and plans to grow facial hair to reflect such.

McGregor’s claim to GOAT status would contradict recent proclamations from long-time UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan – who touted recently minted undisputed heavyweight champion, Jon Jones as the sport’s greatest off the back of his title-clinching win over Ciryl Gane earlier this month.

Former duel-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor has revealed he has just two fights remaining on his current deal with the Dana White-led organization, claiming that he would like to remain under the promotion’s banner for the foreseeable future.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight titleholder, headlined UFC 264 most recently back in July 2021, suffering a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to Dustin Poirier – after fracturing his left tibia and fibula.

Wrapping up filming in Las Vegas, Nevada earlier this month, McGregor is set to feature on The Ultimate Fighter 31 in a coaching capacity against the current #5 ranked lightweight challenger, Michael Chandler.

Expected to book his Octagon return later this year, McGregor, who has yet to return to the USADA testing pool as well as return two negative drug tests, has been floated for a September fight with the above-mentioned, Chandler – at the welterweight limit of 170lbs.

Without a victory since January 2020, McGregor’s most recent win also came at the welterweight limit – stopping future UFC Hall of Fame inductee, Donald Cerrone with a 40-second high kick and strikes TKO victory.

Featuring on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani earlier this week, McGregor revealed he has just two fights remaining on his current UFC contract, however, had no intentions to run his deal down and subsequently test free agency.

“For me, the UFC is the pinnacle,” Conor McGregor explained. “It’s the company I love, it’s the company I wish to be with for the rest of my career. So, I’ve got two fights left on my contract and I hope we can continue. So, I wanna be inthe UFC, that’s my catalog – it’s in the UFC. My highlight reel is in the UFC.” 

“Let’s see what happens. I hope they [the UFC] feel the same way also,” Conor McGregor said. “I love the company, dearly. It’s the company that changed my life. It’s given me so much and helped me in many situations in my life. The UFC is my company.”

Former two-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor has called for anti-doping agency, USADA to be thrown “in the bin” ahead of his impending Octagon return – after the organization denied that the Dubliner could return to active competition with just two negative drug tests, and could skirt a period of six months in their testing pool. 

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion, has been sidelined since July 2021, headlining UFC 264 against former interim lightweight titleholder, Dustin Poirier.

Suffering a fractured left tibia and fibula in the opening round of his headliner with Lafayette native, McGregor, who has not been drug tested by USADA since the third quarter of that year – has yet to return to active competition since then. 

Wrapping up filming on The Ultimate Fighter 31 earlier this month in which he features as an opposing coach on the show against lightweight contender, Michael Chandler – McGregor, who is expected to fight the latter in the latter months of this year, recently claimed that all he needed was two negative tests submitted to USADA, before he was then eligible to return to competition. 

However, the anti-doping agency claimed that it would also need McGregor – and any other returning athletes who have left the pool, to return to the pool for a period of six months before they would be eligible to fight under the UFC banner.

Reacting to the statement issued by USADA, McGregor blasted the organization in a series of tweets from his official Twitter account.

“USADA is going in the bin,” Conor McGregor tweeted.

“This is my issue. I’ve not lied once,” Conor McGregor tweeted. “Nor have I tested positive, ever. I have over 70 clean tests under the program, yet they are consistently coming out after I speak in a manner that makes it seem I am lying. It’s ridiculous. F*ck [USADA]. You are in the bin.”

“Over 70 clean tests, never violated once,” Conor McGregor tweeted. “I will not be scapegoated by this garbage organization. You are not the be all end all in this equation USADA.”

Confirming how he hopes to fight the Missouri native at the welterweight limit, McGregor claimed that he would like to compete for a championship at the weight class off the back of a win later thai year.

“Yeah, I’d like [a welterweight title shot],” Conor McGregor told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. “So, I would like that.”

Also confirming how he plans to travel to London to take in UFC 286 front-and-centre on Saturday in the capital, the pay-per-view event features a welterweight title headliner between the Crumlin striker’s Paradigm Sports & Management stablemate, Leon Edwards, and rival, Kamaru Usman.

Following a surgical procedure in order to address his leg injury suffered against Poirier two years ago, McGregor confirmed how he hoped to eventually land a UFC ‘triple crown’ of title victories – campaigning for a fight against then-champion, Usman.
