Press Release – TORONTO, February 9th, 2012 – A showdown between two of Canada’s top bantamweights (135 pounds) – undefeated Stoney Creek sensation Josh Hill (7-0) and rising star Eric Wilson (5-1) from Saskatoon – has been added to The Score Fighting Series (SFS) event at the Hamilton Place Theatre on Friday, March 16th.

Additionally, a lightweight (155 pounds) matchup between unbeaten Jason Meisel (2-0) of Caledonia and Mike Sledzion (3-2) of Barrie; a featherweight (145 pounds) battle between Lyndon Whitlock (5-2) of Hamilton and Cory Houston (4-1) of Winnipeg; and a heavyweight (max 265 pounds) clash between John Macphearson (1-1) of Hamilton and Craig “War Dog” Hudson (1-1) of Brantford, have all been confirmed for the event lineup.

A marquee lightweight matchup between UFC and PRIDE veteran and Xtreme Couture team member John “The Natural” Alessio (33-14) and Strikeforce and WEC veteran and Team Quest member “Diamond” Ryan Healy (19-9-1) was the first fight confirmed for the event.

The 25-year-old Hill is part of a growing, new breed of MMA fighters who begin their careers without a concentration in any single combat discipline, but rather with a multitude of weapons in all areas of the hybrid fighting sport. Training primarily out of Iron Tiger Muay Thai, Pura BJJ and Bruckmann Martial Arts, Hill showcased a prolific striking arsenal at the start of his career, but has recently relied more heavily on his wrestling skills to secure wins.

Taking the fight to the mat, however, will be a dangerous strategy against Wilson who possesses a dangerous ground game, including brutal leg locks capable of finishing fights in abrupt fashion. Also 25 years of age, Wilson trains out of Outlaw MMA and holds a victory over current UFC fighter Roland Delorme.

Wilson suffered his first professional loss last May against another top bantamweight in John “The Haggis Basher” Fraser. Many MMA insiders believe that neither Hill nor Wilson will look to go to the ground, and that this fight will be settled on the feet.

“Eric is a very tough opponent and is coming off his first loss so I’m sure he will come out hungry, looking to get back in the win column and hand me my first loss in the cage,” says Hill. “I’m excited to fight at home in Hamilton for the second time and I’m ready for a war with Wilson.”

Tickets for The Score Fighting Series event start at $30 and are on sale now at the Copps Colesium box office and online at www.ticketmaster.ca.

The Score Fighting Series Comes To Sarnia On December 3rd – Full Card Announced

Press Release – TORONTO, November 28th, 2011 – Score Media Inc. (TSX: SCR) today announces that MMA fans in Sarnia, Ontario will have one more reason to cheer at The Score Fighting Series event coming up this Saturday. After losing his initial opponent to injury, local fighter Chris “The Menace” Clements has agreed to step into the cage with UFC® veteran Rich “No Love” Clementi. This match-up will be the co-main event alongside the previously announced John Fraser-Travis Reddinger fight. In other news, Ryan Healy has been forced to pull out of his bout with John Alessio due to injury. The Score Fighting Series expects to reschedule the affair in 2012.

This will be a defining fight for Clements (9-4) who is on a three-fight win-streak including a brutal KO that ended the career of former UFC fighter Jonathan Goulet and a devastating spinning back-kick finish of Travis Briere. Clements is a true knockout artist with all nine of his victories coming via TKO or KO. He currently lives in London, Ontario where he trains at the Adrenaline Training Center alongside UFC standouts Mark Hominick and Sam Stout but grew up just outside of Sarnia in the town of Dresden. Clements knows that in order to fulfill his dream of signing a contract with a major American promotion that he must continue to score decisive wins over big name opponents so he will be looking to put an early end to Clementi’s night.

Clementi (42-20-1), however, is a 9-time UFC veteran and has plans of his own on getting back to the big show. He will have a considerable edge in experience over Clements and holds notable wins over Melvin Guillard, Anthony Johnson, Ross Pointon and Clement’s teammate Sam Stout. Clementi usually competes at lightweight but will be moving up to welterweight for this bout.

Clements was originally supposed to face another UFC veteran in Forrest Petz. The change in opponents will also bring a stark contrast in styles as Petz is most comfortable on his feet while Clementi is best known for his stellar ground game. Nearly 60% of Clementi’s victories have come via submission which would appear to be a monkey wrench in Clement’s preparations. However, after having to deal with possibly not being on the card at all, Clements was relieved when event organizers found another opponent of Petz’ caliber if not the same style. “I have been training for nine weeks for a right-handed striker and now a week away I find out I’m facing a left- handed grappler,” says Clements. “But I don’t see the end result any different. My arm will still be raised at the end of the fight.”

The card will take place at the RBC Centre in Sarnia, Ontario. All ten fights will be streamed live on theScore.com with commentary by The Score Fighting Series’ broadcast team of Mauro Ranallo and Robin Black. The live stream will not be available in the Sarnia area. The fights will also air on The Score Television Network at a later date. Tickets start at $40 and are available at the RBC Centre box office and online at www.rbccentresarnia.com.

Canadians Alessio and Fraser to headline event

Press Release – TORONTO, November 22nd, 2011 – Score Media Inc. (TSX: SCR) today announces that The Score Fighting Series (SFS) will be partnering with Avant-Guard Promotions for the first professional MMA event in the history of Sarnia, Ontario. The card will take place Saturday, December 3rd, 2011 at the RBC Centre and is scheduled for ten fights.

Two marquee match-ups have officially been confirmed with MMA veterans John Alessio and Ryan Healy slated to lock horns and Sarnia’s John Fraser set to take on submission master Travis Reddinger. The entire card will be streamed live on theScore.com with commentary by The Score Fighting Series’ broadcast team of Mauro Ranallo and Robin Black. The fights will also be replayed on theScore Television Network.

“The city of Sarnia has been waiting a long time to host an MMA card and it just wouldn’t be possible to put on such an amazing event without the help of The Score Fighting Series,” says Woodrow James, CEO, Avant-Guard Promotions. “I am thrilled that fans from across the country and around the world will be able to see our homegrown athletes in action. December 3rd is a date you want to mark on your calendar.”

“We couldn’t be happier to be a part of this event. It offers a solid mix of veterans and rising stars in evenly matched fights,” says Brendan Fyfe, Director, The Score Fighting Series. “A number of guys on the card have fought in the Series before but they were always in someone else’s backyard. Fighters like John Fraser always come to entertain and it will be amazing to see him compete in front of a hometown crowd.”

MMA fans will be able to see two of the best fighters in the world not currently signed to a major U.S. promotion in the Healy-Alessio match-up. Always exciting to watch and incredibly well-rounded, Alessio’s record of 33-14 includes ten victories by TKO/KO and 15 via submission. Healy (19-9-1) has competed in Strikeforce and the WEC and is a member of Team Quest where he trains under MMA legend Matt Lindland and UFC® star Chael Sonnen. Like his twin brother Pat, Healy has solid skills on the ground but prefers to use his grappling prowess to keep fights standing.

Born and raised in Sarnia, John Fraser (9-3) has gone undefeated in all five of his SFS appearances and will look to make it six in a row at the expense of Travis Reddinger. Known for his relentless attacking style and dominant wrestling, Fraser will look to pressure his opponent until he sees an opening that could end Reddinger’s night. Reddinger (16-3) will be looking to spoil the local hero’s homecoming and has the ground game to match Fraser’s with over 60% of his victories coming by submission.

Tickets start at $40 and are available at the RBC Centre box office and online at www.rbccentresarnia.com
