There are only two fighters who make sense to be Cory Sandhagen’s next opponent.
It put Sandhagen right back into the title mix as he bounced back from what he labeled to be an “embarrassing” first-round submission loss to Aljamain Sterling in June. That victory for Sterling all but assured him of the next shot at the bantamweight title and although it’s yet to be official, it’s highly-expected that the next championship fight will see him face current champion Petr Yan.
If that is the case, Sandhagen only envisions two fighters for him to face next.
“The only other guys who have an argument is TJ when he gets back in January and Frankie [Edgar],” Sandhagen said in his post-fight interview with Dan Hardy. “All the respect to both of those guys but I want that belt. Those are the only two guys ahead of me and then I want the winner of Yan vs. Sterling.”
Dillashaw, of course, is serving a two-year ban from USADA after testing positive for EPO in 2019. He will be eligible to compete in January and a fight with Sandhagen would certainly be an intriguing affair.
Edgar, meanwhile, recently enjoyed a successful bantamweight debut after outpointing Pedro Munhoz in their August headliner.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see what the UFC’s plans are.

Garbrandt: We Knew What Dillashaw Was On
Cody Garbrandt is open to fighting TJ Dillashaw a third time.
Garbrandt returned to winning ways with his impressive second-round knockout win over Raphael Assuncao at UFC 250 last night. It ended a three-fight losing streak for “No Love” who will now look to continue climbing up the ladder with hopes of becoming a bantamweight champion again.
Of course, he lost his bantamweight title to TJ Dillashaw and would lose to him again in their rematch — both times by knockout. However, Dillashaw would vacate his title last year after receiving a two-year suspension from USADA following a positive test for EPO.
Garbrandt had been highly vocal about Dillashaw’s steroid use even before the latter popped and undoubtedly feels that played a factor in their two fights. Regardless, the former champion is willing to face Dillashaw and get those losses back should the opportunity arise.
“We’re talking about TJ who is still suspended,” Garbrandt responded at the UFC 250 post-fight press conference when asked if he would like a third fight with Dillashaw. “He’s not even here but that’s a fight I’d like to get back. I mean, we all knew what he was on. We knew what he was doing. It took so many times for him to skate by USADA unfortunately. He’s serving a sentence. He’s going to always have to live with that for the rest of his life. He has a child that has eyes on him that knows his dad was a cheater. The whole world looked up to him, a lot of young kids.
“It’s sad, I kind of feel bad for the guy. He has no confidence that he has to use those kinds of aids to be a fighter. But we’ll see. I’m going to be after a world championship, I’m going to be at the top. So if he works his way back up there? Open doors, let’s get it.”
Do you think a trilogy between the pair goes a different way?

Former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw has labelled Dominick Curz a “one-trick pony” ahead of his UFC 249 title fight against Henry Cejudo.
The co-main event this weekend will feature two men who hold wins over Dillashaw. Cruz edged Dillashaw to reclaim the 135lb belt in January 2016. Cejudo stopped the TUF veteran in just 32 seconds at UFC Brooklyn in January 2019. Dillashaw has since been banned from the sport for doping and won’t be able to fight again until early next year.
Speaking to Sirius XM ahead of the UFC 249 clash between two former opponents Dillashaw had some pretty harsh words for ‘The Dominator’, he said.
“Cruz doesn’t really switch up his gameplan though, he’s kind of a one-trick pony. Even though he’s got all this crazy movement, these angles and stuff, he still is a one-trick pony. He can’t really change up, he can’t be like ‘I’m getting beat up on my feet, I better take this guy down and use jiu-jitsu.’ He doesn’t have that. Cody Garbrandt, he needed to knock him out, there was no way he was going to beat him, but he can’t do that. He doesn’t have knockout power. It’s not like Cruz can really change it, it’s more of a fact of it’s just hard to figure out.”
“He doesn’t fight like anybody else. You can’t bring someone in and be like hey will you fight me like Dominick Cruz? He’s got a good gameplan from the beginning and he sticks to it and he gets you to play his game, he gets you to chase him, and he takes advantage of it. I think the biggest X-factor is the distance and his control of it.”
Dillashaw admitted he was excited to watch the bantamweight title fight tomorrow night but stopped short of offering any type of prediction.
“We’ll see, man,” he said. “It’s definitely an interesting fight, I’m intrigued by it.” (Transcribed by BJPenn.com)

Cejudo put his flyweight title on the line against Dillashaw at UFC Brooklyn in January 2019. ‘Triple C’ claimed a quick win on the night, stopping the bantamweight champion in 32 seconds. In the aftermath of the fight, Dillashaw popped for EPO, relinquished his 135lb title, and was suspended for two years. The 34-year-old will be allowed to fight again from Jan 18, 2021.
Speaking at the UFC 249 virtual media day Cejudo says he won’t be giving Dillashaw another shot at the bantamweight belt, he said.
“People will never know until you are cheated on, man. It’s an honor to fight somebody in the Octagon. I don’t know, I feel embarrassed, I feel dirty even talking about T.J., you know what I’m saying? I don’t think there is anything in my heart that I even want to fight that dude, I really don’t. You shake hands with somebody and go out there and compete and next thing you know, he’s on some s**t, like EPOs where you can’t get tired, the same thing Lance Amstrong was on.
“I don’t even think I ever want to fight that dude ever again. I truly mean that he has to get his mind right, he’s got to be fair,” he continued. “He has got to go through the line, who knows how long he’s been doing this for. It’s unfortunate, but that’s just what I feel deep inside. I don’t even know if I could stand next to him and do a staredown. It’s false. I feel weird saying all those bad things.” (Transcribed by BJPenn.com)

TJ Dillashaw gave his thoughts and prediction on the upcoming bantamweight title fight between Henry Cejudo and Dominick Cruz.
Cejudo defends his bantamweight crown against Cruz in the co-main event of UFC 249 on May 9 in Jacksonville, Florida. It’s an intriguing fight mainly because it will mark Cruz’s return to the Octagon for the first time since December 2016 as he looks to become the 135-pound king once again.
Dillashaw has notably faced and lost to both fighters so it’s all the more interesting to hear how he sees the fight playing out. And in somewhat of a surprise, he is going with Cruz.
“I actually think Cruz wins the fight. I think he wins a decision,” Dillashaw told ESPN. “I don’t think Cejudo is all he cracks himself up to be. He’s very good, don’t get me wrong. He’s a great athlete, he’s done some amazing things in the combat world. But I don’t think he’s to the level of what Cruz can show him. It’s gonna be difficult for Cejudo to deal with Cruz’s awkward movement.
“It’s not that Cruz is super technical, he’s just awkward and hard to deal with. Cruz has some huge openings in his game. He’s got a way to be beaten, he definitely does. I just don’t know if Cejudo has the element to do it. The way Cejudo needs to fight Cruz is by not being overly aggressive, don’t chase him. Don’t go guns-a-blazing at the beginning and throwing big shots to try and catch him. I kind of learned that mistake the first couple rounds when I was trying to knock Cruz’s head off. And then I beat him up the last few rounds. Cody Garbrandt showed that, too. Cruz put himself out of position, because he does it nonstop. Cruz puts himself way out of position all the time, but he’s playing this cat-and-mouse game where he gets you to bite and then he takes advantage of it.”
In the end, Dillashaw believes Cruz’s years of experience along with his scrambling ability and cardio will be enough to become a three-time UFC bantamweight champion.
“I don’t know how well Cejudo will be able to deal with it,” Dillashaw added. “I think with Cruz’s cardio and his experience, he outpoints Cejudo. Cejudo can beat him. I just don’t think he will. I think Cruz is gonna edge him out. I think MMA wrestling is a completely different sport. Cejudo is the better wrestler. But MMA wrestling is a whole sport on its own.
“I think the distance control that Cruz has is going to be one of Cejudo’s biggest challenges. He’s not gonna be able to get a hold of Cruz. If he does, he isn’t gonna be able to hold him down. It’s not like Cejudo is a jiu-jitsu expert where he’s gonna take advantage of Cruz giving him his back. Because Cruz gives up his back constantly when he gets taken down, but he uses it to get back to his feet. I think Cruz’s scrambling ability and his MMA wrestling will be an advantage for him, too.”

Former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw says he has been promised a title shot once he’s served his two-year suspension for doping.
A dominant champion at 135lbs Dillahsaw chose to step down to face flyweight titleholder Henry Cejudo at UFC Brooklyn in January 2019. The 34-year-old suffered an upset loss inside one minute at the hand of Cejudo, who scored an early knockout.
In the aftermath of the humbling defeat, it was revealed Dillashaw tested positive for performance-enhancing drug recombinant human erythropoietin (EPO). As a result, Dillashaw relinquished his bantamweight title and is currently serving a two-year ban due to end in 2021.
Speaking to MMA Junkie Dillashaw revealed he has previously been promised an immediate title shot upon his return from injury, although he realizes that doesn’t mean much, he said.
“I was told I would get that title fight when I came back, but that doesn’t mean anything. I made a mistake – I don’t own rights to anything. But if it was my choice, it would be title fight, if not top-five to prove I should get that title fight. I think that makes sense,”
“I’m hoping they just throw me to the dogs. If I can’t get that title fight, I want someone in the top five so that I can get my title fight. I’m not here to play around. I want my belt back. It’s still mine. I’ll be ready
The two-time UFC champion is looking forward to earning another shot at a title and is confident he’ll capture a third belt inside MMA’s premier promotion, he said.
“Now I guess I get the opportunity to be a three-time champion, which is absurd,” Dillashaw said. “I don’t feel like I should’ve lost it the first time. I get to recapture it all over again. I get to go through this process a (expletive) third time.”
Should TJ Dillashaw get an immediate title shot on his return from suspension?
