Mark Hominick, a nine-year MMA veteran who will be fighting for his first major title in less than two weeks when he meets Jose Aldo at UFC 129, is finally cashing in.
And fittingly enough for the Ontario-born Hominick, a Canadian organization is backing him for the biggest fight of his career.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League announced on Wednesday that they had “entered a partnership” with the native of Thamesford, Ontario. In other words, the Ticats will be one of Hominick’s sponsors for his UFC featherweight title fight.

Expect the UFC marketing machine to go all out beginning this weekend. With less than two weeks until the biggest event in the promotion’s history, UFC director of Canadian Operations Tom Wright stopped by The MMA Hour Monday to discuss preparations for the sold-out UFC 129 event on April 30 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.
“We’ve got a full plan for the eight-nine days leading up to the event. It’s called the Takeover Toronto Plan,” Wright said. “We’ve got everything you can imagine going on in the city getting ready for the big fight on the 30th.”

In the weeks leading up to UFC 129, Dana White and Tom Wright, the UFC’s Director of Canadian Operations, have repeatedly assured fans and media that the promotion’s usual live event experience will not be compromised at its biggest show ever.
However, until April 30 rolls around, how can we be so sure?
Well, MMA Fighting has learned that the UFC will place more than twice the amount of video screens present at a regular UFC event inside Rogers Centre. The UFC typically adds six to eight of their own video screens, depending on the size of the arena, in addition to the main scoreboard, inside the venue. That means there could be up to 20 video screens positioned around Rogers Centre on fight night.
In addition, and most interestingly, the UFC will be complimenting the stadium’s 108-foot video board with its own 100-foot screen on the south side of the stadium.

With its first two Fan Expo events in Las Vegas big successes, and its first East Coast fan event in Boston in the books, the UFC holds its first international Fan Expo this weekend in conjunction with UFC 120 in London.
On Tuesday, the promotion’s Director of Canadian Operations, Tom Wright, said 2011 could see a Fan Expo in Canada – likely in Toronto when the UFC holds its first event there.
“I think if we bring a Fan Expo to Canada, most likely it would come to Ontario,” Wright said at a press conference for December’s UFC 124 event in Montreal.
