Tony Ferguson goes off on two of the biggest names in the sport today.

Those stars are Conor McGregor and UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, who was in the news this week after a controversial exchange of words on social media. The former interim lightweight champion has been consistent in saying that he will only fight for the belt and it appears that his latest attempt proves just that.

This rant all started once ESPN’s Brett Okamoto brought up the Westgate sports book in Las Vegas is accepting action on a Nurmagomedov/McGregor rematch. Ferguson saw this and as a result, went on a wild rant.

“You were finished… Tapped out & Quit like a bitch. Now you’re stepping on my toes you false idols @TheNotoriousMMA @ParadigmSM  @TeamKhabib Ready when you are Fathead. Don’t dodge me like #ufc209 Coward. No Loyalty to the game. -Real Champ Champ.”

“Can’t wait to snap you down to your knees @TeamKhabib I’ve got a special necktie picked out just for you.”

“Champ Shit Only. Have an Incredibly Phenomenal day! Remember to Smile & Share a Laugh my Crew. Stay Hardcore & try not to piss anyone off today unnnnnnnless it’s Mcnuggets or Team Fathead.  Go for it, That is all- Champ -XTA- Hometeam.”

It is expected that Khabib will fight the winner of the UFC lightweight interim fight between Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier at UFC 236. Thus, it leaves Ferguson waiting for a chance in line against Khabib.

UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has been quite vocal on social media.

Mostly clapping back at Conor McGregor’s insults towards his wife and religion. However, he has still found time to offer his well wishes to fellow top 155-pounder Tony Ferguson. Ferguson has been going through a difficult time personally. Khabib wished “El Cucuy” good luck during a recent interview (via RT Sport):

“From what I understood at least, there were some reports about calls to the police, I really don’t want to go into details. Because I myself wouldn’t want to have that sort of attention. I can only imagine how hard it is for him, especially since it’s about his family.

“Again, I didn’t follow it closely, just like like you I read some things on the internet. May God give him health and the best of luck. Sport is sport, but family is family. And let’s hope he’ll return, it’s very strange to see him away, he has an 11-fight win streak in the lightweight division.

“And now he’s on the sidelines. I guess that just means that at this moment in time he has to go through this test. Each person faces their own challenge, some people get ill, some people let money go to their heads, some people drink.

“Someone has ‘star fever. Different people face tests in different ways. Someone had a surgery, someone is a champion who doesn’t have time for training. So each person faces their own challenge and it looks like he will have to go through his own challenge.

“Let’s hope he’ll come out as a winner and come back, and hopefully we’ll fight one day. “

Future Match-Up?

Khabib vs. Ferguson is one of the most highly-anticipated fights the lightweight division has ever been proposed. However, injuries continuously prevented it from happening. When asked if the match-up still interested him, here’s what the 155-pound champion had to say:

“Yes, it’s a great fight,” Nurmagomedov said. “It’s one of the best… Not even one of the best, it’s the most anticipated fight in the UFC. I’ve been told about it by the UFC owners because they monitor what people say on the internet. And this is the most anticipated fight at the moments. So let’s hope he comes back.”

“The Eagle” is currently serving a nine-month suspension for his involvement in the UFC 229 post-fight brawl in October. Once he finally returns to action – likely this fall – he’ll likely face the winner of the upcoming interim lightweight title bout between Max Holloway and Dustin Poirer.
