Tony Ferguson took another shot at Conor McGregor on social media in response to the Irishman’s announced return to the Octagon later this year.

UFC president Dana White revealed that ‘The Notorious’ will make his long-awaited return to the promotion this fall for a showdown with high-octane lightweight contender ‘Iron’ Michael Chandler. Upon discovery that his Conor McGregor lottery ticket was not the winner, ‘El Cucuy’ took to Twitter to take a few potshots at the former two-division champion, accusing him of taking “the easy road” with his latest fight selection.

“Just Set This Right Here” Lah-Dah-Daht-Dahhhh When Consistency Is Reach For Sweet Stuff Last Few Weeks Been Busy For Ol’Mcnacker, A Social Media Snafu To A Bike Incident *eesh* Atleast He’s Ok Maybe It’s A Good Idea He Takes The Easy Road- Champ CSO”

Tony Ferguson Has Seen Better Days Inside the Cage

Tony Ferguson is far from the man he once was inside the Octagon. From 2013 to 2019, ‘El Cucuy’ was practically unstoppable, but all of that changed in 2020 when he suffered a lopsided loss to perennial contender Justin Gaethje at UFC 249. Ferguson now finds himself on a five-fight losing streak. His most recent appearance came at UFC 279 in November where he met Nate Diaz in the evening’s main event. Diaz scored a fourth-round submission via guillotine choke. It was Diaz’s first submission victory inside the Octagon since making Conor McGregor tap at UFC 196 six years prior.

Ahead of their scrap inside the Octagon, Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler will compete as opposing coaches on season 31 of the promotion’s long-running reality series The Ultimate Fighter. According to a report from Ariel Helwani, the season is scheduled to air between May and August of this year with the pair scheduled to throw hands in September.

What comes next for Tony Ferguson is anyone’s guess, but if Renato Moicano gets his way, ‘El Cucuy’ will meet him inside the cage when the promotion returns to Miami for UFC 287 on April 8. Moicano called out Ferguson on Twitter, tagging Dana White and Sean Shelby in the process.

“Since Chandler is scheduled to be coach in TUF not Ferguson… I’m reconsidering about my political views of death penalty’s… hey @TonyFergusonXT are you ready to rumble in Miami !? #ufc #mma @ufc @danawhite @seanshelby”

Renato Moicano has called out former UFC interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson, for a 155lb fight at UFC 287.

Having spent his early UFC career competing in the featherweight division, Moicano made the move up to 155lbs in 2020. He found instant success when he took on Damir Hadžovi? at UFC on ESPN+ 28, submitting ‘The Bosnian Bomber’ in the first round.

Since then, Moicano has picked up wins over Jai Herbert, Alexander Hernandez, and most recently, Brad Riddell, whilst also dropping losses to RDA and Rafael Fiziev.

Moicano has been vocal in his desire to get 2023 started with a bang, having called out a number of opponents. Now, following the news that Michael Chandler will be coaching opposite Conor McGregor on the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter, Moicano has taken to Twitter to call out Tony Ferguson.

He posted the following:

“Since Chandler is scheduled to be coach in TUF not Ferguson… I’m reconsidering about my political views of death penalty’s hey @TonyFergusonXT are you ready to rumble in Miami !?”

Renato Moicano is clearly targeting a spot on UFC 287 when the promotion returns to Miami. The card is currently headlined by a middleweight title rematch between current champ Alex Pereira and former long-time title holder Israel Adesanya. Jorge Masvidal will also feature, taking on Gilbert Burns, whilst fan favorite Kevin Holland will face off against ‘The Argentine Dagger’, Santiago Ponzinibbio.

Tony Ferguson is yet to respond to Moicano’s callout. However, Drew Dober can be seen in the comments, raising his hand as a potential opponent should ‘El Cucuy‘ not accept.

Who would you like to see Renato Moicano face next? Tony Ferguson or Drew Dober?

Former UFC champion, Daniel Cormier like the idea of Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson coaching opposite each other of The Ultimate Fighter.

Earlier this week, McGregor revealed he had been approached to coach on the upcoming season of TUF. The consensus picks of the opposite coach are Ferguson and former title challenger Michael Chandler.

Both options have their upside. The Ferguson build up would be guaranteed gold and the interactions between the pair would live on in MMA lore forever. However, while McGregor is on his own losing streak, Ferguson has seen a decline in his ability and the fight may be less competitive and a win for McGregor would mean far less that it would a few years ago.

As for Chandler, the often polite, well spoken 36-year-old might not bring the same one-liners or even intense moments that Ferguson would, but Chandler’s last few performances have made for unmissable viewing. The fight between Chandler and McGregor would more than likely produce fireworks for however long it lasted.

Daniel Cormier sides with Ferguson

Talking on his podcast DC & RC, Cormier said that he would prefer to see a season between Ferguson and McGregor.

“I absolutely tap in. I think it would be funny to see Tony Ferguson and Conor McGregor doing the show, but also that’s a fight Conor McGregor could win when he comes back.” said Cormier.

Tony Ferguson reveals offer to coach on TUF against Conor McGregor

Making a welterweight division excursion in his loss to Diaz, having seen a previously scheduled fight with Li Jingliang for the same UFC 279 event shelved, Tony Ferguson has revealed he was approached regarding an opportunity to coach TUF against Conor McGregor.

“I’ve been asked to coach on TUF against ol’e fathead, or anyone of my choosing if that cake-eatin’ sum’bish’ wouldn’t show *mack*,” Tony Ferguson posted on Instagram. “What a vagina. Without a victory since January 2020, McGregor’s most recently stopped former lightweight title challenger, Donald Cerrone with a high-kick knockout, while Ferguson’s most recent win came against the Denver native to boot, courtesy of a 2019 doctor’s stoppage triumph.
