Former interim UFC lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson appears to have found his new home base as he attempts to snap a disappointing run of four consecutive Octagon losses – landing at Jackson-Wink MMA Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Ferguson, the current #11 ranked lightweight contender, suffered his fourth straight defeat back in May on the main card of UFC 274 in Phoenix, Arizona – dropping a devastating second round front kick knockout loss against Michael Chandler.

The defeat marked a continued run of recent poor form for the Oxnard fan-favorite, who had suffered back-to-back decision losses to Beneil Dariush, former undisputed champion, Charles Oliveira – to go with an interim title headlining loss to Justin Gaethje back in May 2020.

Ferguson, 39, is without a victory since forcing a second round doctor’s stoppage against the recently retired, Donald Cerrone on the main card of UFC 238 in June 2019.

Following his recent knockout loss to Chandler, Tony Ferguson admitted that he was weighing up his options in regards to landing at a permanent home base and training facility, revealing that he had received a slew of offers from facilities and coaches.

Dan Hooker has continued to call for a fighter with former UFC lightweight interim champion Tony Ferguson.

Both men are huge fan favorites in the sport, but are in desperate need of a win to reinstate themselves into the lightweight top 10. Dan Hooker came up short against Arnold Allen in a recent venture back down to featherweight, whilst Tony Ferguson suffered a devastating front kick KO loss at the hands of Michael Chandler.

Hooker recently took to Twitter to call out Ferguson, stating: “I’ll smash ya face in.”

He has since reiterated his desire for the fight with ‘El Cucuy,’ featuring on Submission Radio’s YouTube channel where he had the following to say:

“I’m sick of training, I want to go into a fight camp, I want to fight, and it’s just that time. Tony Ferguson is the fight that they’re interested in. I think that fight makes a lot of sense. We’re both in similar positions and I think that fight makes sense.

“My management wants that fight, I think the fans want that fight. And so how do you pick a fight? You tell someone you’re gonna smash their face in. And if they agree, they agree. Those are fighting words. If you want to pick a fight, you gotta use fighting words. Smash ya face in, premium quality fighting words. Can’t be ignored. Now your honor’s at stake. If you ignore that, now your honor is at stake, my friend.”

Dan Hooker Reacts to Michael Johnson Callout

Michael ‘The Menace’ Johnson, another UFC veteran, recently took the time to call Dan Hooker out, following his win over Alan Patrick at UFC Fight Night: B?achowicz vs. Raki?.

‘The Hangman’ stated that he would be happy to fight Johnson, but he believes that the American should have come out with a better callout.

“I don’t care, I’ll fight Michael Johnson,” stated Hooker. “Like, I actually don’t care. I just… I only didn’t respond to the callout because, I don’t know where he thinks I live though, but halfway is not… where does he think I live? Where does he think New Zealand is? Does he think new Zealand’s in Europe? He said, ‘I’ll meet you halfway in Abu Dhabi’. Mate, that’s further away than America. I would rather – I don’t know where he lives, but I would rather fly there and fight him in America than fly to Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi is not half way, Abu Dhabi is twice as far away as America.”

“That was a poorly researched callout, and it just wasn’t worth responding to. I was just like, we read, like, do they not have geography in American schools? Like, where does he think I live?”

Dan Hooker and Tony Ferguson have both been struggling for form in the UFC as of late, but have both retained their spots in the top 15 of the 155lb division. Hooker had a failed venture back down to featherweight, whilst Ferguson has come up short against four of the current lightweight elite, in Charles Oliveira, Justin Gaethje, Beneil Dariush, and Michael Chandler.

Ferguson now sits at No.11 in the LW division, with Hooker just below him at No.13. Hooker recently took to Twitter to issue two callouts to ‘El Cucuy,’ with one post stating: “I’ll smash ya face in Tony Ferguson.”

How Likely Is It That The UFC Book Tony Ferguson vs. Dan Hooker?

Dan Hooker vs. Tony Ferguson makes plenty of sense on paper. Both men are veterans of the game and have cultivated big followings over the course of their extensive careers. As mentioned above, they are also very close in the rankings, and both are in desperate need of a win.

The only thing potentially stopping the UFC from making this fight may be that they hope to introduce a new prospect to the masses by matching them up with one of these grizzled veterans. Fans of the UFC have seen this happen time and time again, and with the likes of Jalin Turner, Drew Dober, and Damier Ismagulov all knocking on the door of the top 15/10, this could well be the route the UFC takes.

Conor McGregor

Former UFC heavyweight contender, Brendan Schaub has claimed that if he were in the inner circle of former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor’s team, he would be urging the Dubliner to pursue a fight against former interim champion, Tony Ferguson – with the hope of securing a much-needed victory.

Headlining UFC 264 back in July of last year, McGregor, a former undisputed featherweight and lightweight champion, suffered a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss against another former interim 155lbs champion, Dustin Poirier, after he fractured his left tibia in the opening round.

Forced with snapping a run of two straight losses for the first time in his Octagon career, McGregor headlined a UFC 257 event back in January of last year, dropping his first career knockout loss in the form of a second round finish in his rematch with Poirier.

Targeting a return to active competition at the end of this year, if not the beginning of 2023, McGregor has been linked to a slew of potential matchups in his time away from the Octagon.

Brendan Schaub lays out a guide map for Conor McGregor’s UFC future

And according to former heavyweight contender turned podcast host, and stand-up comedian, Schaub, McGregor should pursue a fight with the aforenoted, Ferguson – if not Michael Chandler to boot.

“If I’m Conor McGregor’s team, the smart route to go is – you gotta get a win,” Brendan Schaub told The Schmo during a recent interview. “So if my poison is Michael Chandler, Tony Ferguson – you know, it’s not a knock on Tony, but I would say, Chandler just beat Tony. I would go for Tony, get a win, and then try to fight Charles Oliveira – or f*ckin’ (Islam) Makhachev – Makhachev’s a tough fight for Conor.”

“He (Conor McGregor) has to get a win,” Brendan Schaub explained. “So Tony Ferguson is probably your best bet out of that bunch. You gotta get a win – and Michael Chandler’s tough, man.”

Calling time on his professional career back in 2015, Schaub ended his professional career boasting a professional record of 10-5.
