The bookmakers consider Conor McGregor a pretty big favourite in a potential fight with former interim UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson.

On Thursday, ‘El Cucuy’ returned to his regular slot online posting at ‘Notorious’ and his other lightweight rivals.

McGregor responded with a few jokes about Ferguson’s love of baseball before threatening to kill the UFC fan favourite.

“Me and you are fighting one day mate and I gonna end your life in there full of it. Sauce. Money. Power,” McGregor wrote on social media. “I already won all the belts and the money in this game I just wanna kill one of yous rats in there now it’s the only thing left for me to do. And Watch me do it. Only on PPV.”

Prior to his recent Twitter activity, Ferguson has been relatively quiet after suffering his third straight defeat at UFC 262 back in May. The Mexican-American fighter was dominated by Beneil Dariush over three rounds and seemed to be a shadow of his former self during the fight.

The former interim lightweight champion had been hoping to get back to winning ways after a disastrous 2020. Ferguson was due a title shot but the ongoing global pandemic scuppered plans for him to face off against Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Ferguson instead fought Justin Gaethje for an interim title at UFC 249. Despite one very brief moment of success, ‘El Cucuy’ was beat up for five rounds before the referee, Herb Dean, mercifully waved off the fight in the final frame. The loss snapped Ferguson’s 12-fight win streak which remains the best in UFC lightweight history.

The 37-year-old looked to rebound at UFC 256 against Charles Oliveira. Ferguson was once again dominated but in an entirely different way. The Brazilian submission specialist was able to out grapple Ferguson over 15 minutes and only extreme levels of toughness allowed Ferguson to survive a deep armbar attempt and go to the judges’ scorecards who unanimously gave the fight to Oliveira who has since gone on to win the UFC lightweight title Ferguson has coveted for so long.

McGregor is currently healing up after suffering a fractured tibia and fibula at UFC 264. The Irishman had been hoping to avenge his UFC 257 KO loss to Dustin Poirier, but things did not go as planned and now he is riding a two-fight winless streak.

Despite this, the former dual weight UFC champion has opened the -300 favourite over Ferguson who can be found at odds of +250. However, the same bookmaker considers Ferguson to be the favourite in a potential fight with Nate Diaz. On Thursday, Tony Ferguson called out McGregor on Twitter, something he usually does every month or so. (Read)

Later on Thursday, McGregor responded to Ferguson bringing up the former interim lightweight title holder’s management change and saying he wants to kill someone in the cage. Dark stuff, as usual.

“Tony was douped into signing with another agency on the premise he would receive a pro Baseball contract hahahaha a pro fu*king baseball contract,” McGregor wrote on Twitter. “Now he’s in legal turmoil with this crowd ahahahah no shit Jose canseco what did you fucking think would happen empty head.”

McGregor is talking about Ferguson leaving Paradigm Sports Management in 2019 and switching to Ballengee Group. Lloyd Pierson, an MMA agent, left Ballengee group and joined VaynerSports in 2020, bringing Ferguson and many other high-profile fighters with him.

McGregor continued with the baseball jokes, “The guy use to bring baseballs to press conferences an all and wear his glove remember haahahahaha”

McGregor would call Ferguson Warren from the movie ‘Something About Mary’ and then go on about wanting end his life in the octagon.

“Me and you are fighting one day mate and I gonna end your life in there full of it. Sauce. Money. Power,” McGregor wrote. “I already won all the belts and the money in this game I just wanna kill one of yous rats in there now it’s the only thing left for me to do. And Watch me do it. Only on PPV.”

A weekly McGregor rant is something we all expect, unfortunately. The ‘Notorious’ is still sidelined and is recovering from a fractured tibia and fibula at UFC 264. The Irish superstar was also just in the headlines for punching an Italian DJ and breaking his nose. The DJ pressed charges against McGregor.

As for Ferguson, he has been out of action since losing a dominant unanimous decision to Beneil Dariush at UFC 262. However, he has been teasing fight news.

Now that Tony Ferguson has Conor McGregor’s attention, he is going out of his way to make sure he keeps it.

Yesterday, Tony Ferguson did something he has done many times in the past: call out Conor McGregor. Ferguson isn’t the first person to call out The Notorious One, and he certainly won’t be the last. However, unlike some of the other big names to challenge McGregor, the Irishman has consistently ignored Ferguson. That all changed Friday after an assist from Nate Diaz.

Friday, Nate Diaz tweeted an image of Tony Ferguson, seemingly hinting at having interest in a superfight between the two. Conor McGregor injected himself into the conversation, even stating that he’d like to fight both Ferguson and Diaz at some point. It wasn’t long after McGregor made that statement that Ferguson returned to Twitter to completely unleash on the Irishman.

All I read was “look how big he has gotten” My man! These clowns are fucked when I get back, McGregor posted before Ferguson’s Twitter onslaught:

“Taking Growth Hormone Will Do That To Someone’s Build. You’re Mentally Weak & Your Leg Is Compromised. Your Fragile, Frail & Breakable. That GH Gon’ Make U Break Kid. Keep Pumpin’ Ya Chest Ya Cheat. Not The 1st Time God Punished You. You Like Picking On People And DJ’s? WTF Pussy”

The close of that tweet is referring to Conor McGregor’s latest controversy, which was an alleged assault of Italian DJ Francesco Facchinetti that took place last weekend. It sounds as though Ferguson would like Facchinetti to leave the authorities out of it and allow El Cucuy to exact punishment on “The Notorious” instead. If the following response from McGregor is to be believed, he won’t be hard to find.

“Me and you are fighting one day mate and I gonna end your life in there full of it. Sauce. Money. Power. I already won all the belts and the money in this game I just wanna kill one of yous rats in there now it’s the only thing left for me to do. And Watch me do it. Only on PPV.”

McGregor would then roast Ferguson for exiting the management team they once shared, Paradigm Sports.

“Tony was douped into signing with another agency on the premise he would receive a pro Baseball contract hahahaha a pro fucking baseball contract now he’s in legal turmoil with this crowd ahahahah no shit Jose canseco what did you fucking think would happen empty head.”

The Irishman wouldn’t stop there. He would then proceed to take a shot at Tony Ferguson’s 2019 domestic incident in a since-deleted tweet.

“Omg, god bless you kid. Mental basket sad case. I am going to share your scared wife’s video that was sent to us of you screaming crying as you smash your house up. What a sad bastard u are. No brains. Empty head. Losing streak. No management. Wife sending us videos in fear,” the tweet read.

Nate Diaz Makes Ominous Twitter Callout of Tony Ferguson

Nate Diaz Tony Ferguson

It appears that Nate Diaz‘s preferred fight with rising welterweight contender Vicente Luque won’t be happening after all after Diaz hinted at the fight falling through and calling out a new challenger: former UFC interim champion Tony Ferguson.

Diaz is still looking to fight before the end of 2021, but time is seemingly running out to make that happen. UFC 270, the first PPV of 2022 appears to be the soonest target date for Diaz’s return to the octagon.

It was widely assumed on both sides that a Diaz vs. Luque fight would happen next after Luque called him out during a recent post-fight interview. But, negotiations have appeared to have fizzled out in recent days.

Diaz now appears to want a fight with Ferguson, after posting a picture of the former interim titleholder on his Twitter account.

Nate Diaz appears to still desire a fight soon against Tony Ferguson, not Vicente Luque

Both Diaz and Ferguson are coming off of tough losses in 2021. Diaz fell to Leon Edwards by a unanimous decision at UFC 263, while Ferguson was dominated by Beneil Dariush at UFC 262 and has looked depleted with a three-fight losing streak.

But, a fight between the two former lightweight contenders would make a lot of sense. Ferguson’s time competing for titles at lightweight appears to be over, and a move to welterweight would be easier on his body and his mind at this stage of his career. Diaz has made his plans clear that he isn’t returning to 155 pounds.

Diaz could still potentially fight Luque shortly; but he wants to remain active as promised, a fight with Ferguson is sure to excite the fans. The matchup would also feature two of the toughest men in the UFC, who have faced the best of the best at both welterweight and lightweight.

Nate Diaz may have dropped a hint Friday that he is now setting his sights on Tony Ferguson, which led Conor McGregor to try repositioning himself as the center of attention.

Our saga begins with Tony Ferguson taking to Twitter last night to state that he and Conor McGregor have unfinished business and questioned the Irishman’s whereabouts.

“Unfinished Business” -CSO- #DJSpinThatShit #TheItalianJob” Ferguson tweeted, making a pair of references to McGregor’s alleged assault of Italian DJ Francesco Facchinetti last weekend.

“Where You At Mcnuggets!?!” Time -2- Turtle Up MF’s Glad Moast Of You Got The Memo -CSO- Crew On -2- One. -Champ”

Indeed, Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson have never shared the Octagon, nor have the two ever been booked to fight. However, as Ferguson is suggesting, there have been multiple occasions throughout their careers where a fight between the two would have made sense in terms of the rankings and fan interest. It now appears as though Ferguson is attempting to make good on the classic “never say never” expression.

Nate Diaz Posts Cryptic Tweet Of Tony Ferguson

Nate Diaz has recently been in the headlines regarding a potential fight against welterweight Vicente Luque. That bout seemed to be approaching the finish line, with Diaz even expressing frustration over not receiving a contract to make it official. Yet, a day after Ferguson’s light callout of McGregor, the 209 icon posted a blurry photograph of El Cucuy, with no caption or explanation.

MMA Twitter reacted by interpreting this to be a hint, one that instantly stimulated their imaginations.

But there was one reaction that stood out amongst them all, that of “The Notorious” former champ-champ, Conor McGregor. McGregor replied to Diaz’s post with a since-deleted image of his own, one with him scowling and staring ahead while being interviewed by Joe Rogan.

When asked if he had an interest in facing the winner of this hypothetical matchup, here is how the Irishman responded in another since-deleted tweet.

“Both at some stage, irregardless. Two bowls of salsa verde coming right up! #splatter”

Nate Diaz currently has one fight on his UFC contract as noted by Ariel Helwani. And if Diaz does decide to step away from the promotion, either temporarily or permanently, there are far worse ways to close out his deal than a dream fight against “El Cucuy” Tony Ferguson.

If anything materializes from this potential fight or if there is any further banter between these three, deleted or otherwise, we’ll bring you the scoop right here at MMANews.com!
