Tony Ferguson has taken to social media to call out Conor McGregor.

On Thursday, ‘El Cucuy’ directed back-to-back tweets at ‘Notorious’ who he claims to have unfinished business with.

The two men are long-time lightweight standouts who are yet to square off against one another inside the Octagon.

“Unfinished Business,” Ferguson wrote alongside a picture of him and McGregor.

The former interim lightweight champion then posted some of his highlights and asked, “Where You At Mcnuggets?”

Ferguson has been relatively quiet since suffering his third straight defeat at UFC 262 back in May. The Mexican-American fighter was dominated by Beneil Dariush over three rounds and seemed to be a shadow of his former self during the fight.

The former interim lightweight champion had been hoping to get back to winning ways after a disastrous 2020. Ferguson was due a title shot but the ongoing global pandemic scuppered plans for him to face off against Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The fan favourite would instead fight Justin Gaethje for an interim title at UFC 249. Despite one very brief moment of success, ‘El Cucuy’ was beat up for five rounds before the referee, Herb Dean, mercifully waved off the fight in the final frame. The loss snapped Ferguson’s 12-fight win streak which remains the best in UFC lightweight history.

The 37-year-old looked to rebound at UFC 256 against Charles Oliveira. Ferguson was once again dominated but in an entirely different way. The Brazilian submission specialist was able to out grapple Ferguson over 15 minutes and only extreme levels of toughness allowed Ferguson to survive a deep armbar attempt and go to the judges’ scorecards who unanimously gave the fight to Oliveira who has since gone on to win the UFC lightweight title Ferguson has coveted for so long.

McGregor is currently healing up after suffering a fractured tibia and fibula at UFC 264. The Irishman had been hoping to avenge his UFC 257 KO loss to Dustin Poirier, but things did not go as planned and now he is riding a two-fight winless streak.

Islam Makhachev’s manager has revealed that Tony Ferguson has turned down a fight offer.

Islam Makhachev is slated to return to the cage on October 30 at UFC 267. His original opponent, Rafael do Anjos, was forced out of the bout due to injury. The UFC has found him a replacement in Dan Hooker. However, it is now released that Hooker may not have been the first option.

After a little jab by Tony Ferguson towards Makhachev’s manager Ali Abdelaziz, Abdelaziz revealed that Ferguson had been offered a fight with Makhachev and turned it down.

“UFC offered you to fight Islam October 29 and you went missing,” Abdelaziz wrote. “You talking about embarrassing my team your last two fights Justin and Beneil Play with you Smart move you didn’t fight islam he will ruin you also go to sleep Tony God bless you my friend.”

Ferguson responded to the accusation made by Abdelaziz.

Ferguson has not fought since May. His last three fights were all losses since his interim title shot against Justin Gaethje. Ferguson has been MIA from the UFC and at one point, UFC officials were reportedly unable to get in contact with him. He is 37 years old but not ready to retire just yet. Makhachev has been calling for a fight with Ferguson for a while now.

Makhachev has a new opponent for the UFC 267 event despite Ferguson’s alleged pass. Makhachev is a rising star in the division. He has won eight in a row and has pushed himself to the #5 spot in the rankings. With a win over Hooker, he could find himself within a title shot very soon. As for Ferguson, he has dropped to #6 and should be looking for a win soon.

Do you think Islam Makhachev and Tony Ferguson will ever fight?

UFC lightweight Arman Tsarukyan has revealed he’s targeting a December return to the Octagon against either Dan Hooker or Tony Ferguson.

Tsarukyan was in action earlier this month at UFC Vegas 37. On the main card, he recorded his first UFC finish against Christos Giagos. The #13-ranked 155-pound contender previously racked up unanimous decision victories over Olivier Aubin-Mercier, Davi Ramos, and Matt Frevola.

Having been challenged to record his first stoppage in the promotion by matchmaker Sean Shelby, Tsarukyan delivered in his last outing against “The Spartan.” After just over two minutes of the opening round, the 24-year-old finished Giagos via a TKO. With four consecutive wins since his only UFC blemish against Islam Makhachev, Tsarukyan is looking to meet a big name inside the Octagon next.

That name could well be Dan Hooker. The pair have developed quite the rivalry since the New Zealander’s quest to find an opponent for UFC 266 began. After Hooker’s clash with Nasrat Haqparast was announced, the Armenian-Russian accused “The Hangman” of ducking him in an interview with MMA News. After Hooker responded by branding him a “dumbass,” the surging lightweight revealed his desire to “kill” the #8-ranked Kiwi.

Now, following his recent victory, Tsarukyan has once again addressed his feud with Hooker in an interview with MMA News’ own James Lynch. The Georgian-born fighter first revealed what his rival had said to him in an effort to secure him as an opponent should Haqparast have been forced to pull out of UFC 266.

“He texted something like, ‘If you have balls, you gonna fight with me now.’ But he knows I had an (injury), I got injured after this fight, and I broke my ribs. That’s why he started speaking. But if he didn’t know about my injury, for sure he wouldn’t (say that).”

Speaking ahead of UFC 266, Tsarukyan added that he’d like to meet Hooker in December if he was to emerge victorious at the recent pay-per-view. Acknowledging the hype the matchup would get, Tsarukyan described Hooker as a “tough” challenge.

“I think Hooker gonna win, I hope, because I want to fight with him in December. I think he can finish Nasrat and then we gonna have fight with each other. It will be very interesting match. He’s a tough opponent, and I’m tough, too. And we had a conversation (with) each other, and I think UFC can do this part. And a lot of people know about me and him, and everyone wants to see this fight.”

After “The Hangman” returned to winning ways on Saturday with an impressive prelim performance, it seems likely we could be seeing that fight could go down in the coming months. However, Tsarukyan isn’t limiting himself to one option. He told MMA News that he’d be open to facing former interim UFC Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson as well.

“Doesn’t matter especially, but I want to fight with Tony Ferguson (in December). He’s a big name, too, and he doesn’t have fight now. And yeah, why not. I think we can do this fight. And it will be very interesting. I already said about he’s older guy, I’m youngest guy, and it will be great match. And we’ll see new performance with old school.”

While a meeting in the cage with Hooker or Ferguson would certainly be preferable, Tsarukyan also said he’d be willing to face either Gregor Gillespie or Diego Ferreira.

Justin Gaethje has changed his opinion on the future of Tony Ferguson’s career.

Justin Gaethje was almost ready to write Tony Ferguson off after he beat him at UFC 249 but something has changed. In the lead-up to his fight with Michael Chandler, Gaethje has given Ferguson a little praise for being a very tough opponent. Gaethje was recently a guest on the UFC Unfiltered podcast when he was asked about his thoughts on champion Charles Oliveira. He credits Ferguson with giving Oliveira his toughest task.

“He (Oliveira) fought eight in a row. But at the end of the day, Tony Ferguson was the best win on that streak by far,” Gaethje said. “And it was after I put him through 24 minutes and 15 seconds of straight hell. And I didn’t break him. He’s not done. The dude’s a special kind of dude, so he’ll never be broken.”

This is a 180 of where Gaethje was just a few months ago. After their fight, Gathje has basically called for Ferguson to hang up his gloves. In fact, Gaethje said the Ferguson would “never be the same” after his fifth-round TKO loss to Gaethje. Since that loss, Ferguson has fought two more times, both unanimous decision losses.

It is unclear if Ferguson is going to fight again in the UFC. Although his peers have called for his retirement, Ferguson has no plans for that at this time. However, if he is planning a return it might be difficult considering the UFC cannot contact him. Ferguson has always been one of the more unusual and unique fighters on the roster but that is what makes him a fan favorite. He is still ranked #6 in the division and could possibly find his way back to a title shot with a few good wins.

Do you think Tony Ferguson still has what it takes to be competitive in the UFC at this point in his career?
