With two submission losses in his last three UFC bouts, Sage Northcutt has apparently admitted he needs a change in camp.

Heading into his UFC 214 bout with Claudio Puelles on July 29 from Anaheim, California, the 21-year-old social media superstar has apparently relocated to Sacramento’s Team Alpha Male. TAM founder and former UFC title contender Urijah Faber revealed that ‘Super Sage’ was indeed training with his team on today’s (Mon., June 12, 2017) edition of The MMA Hour, revealing they had just finished up a light session:

“He’s out here learning the good stuff. He and I just got done doing a little private (lesson).”

‘The California Kid’ elaborated further on Northcutt’s overall involvement with the team, noting that the prospect was still spending time with a friend of Faber’s in his native Texas after moving his training around both the state and other gyms such as Montreal’s TriStar and Milwaukee’s Roufusport while being managed by his father Mark throughout the early part of his UFC career.

So while he may not officially be a full-time TAM member just yet, Faber believes that’s something Northcutt will work up to on a permanent basis before touting the young athlete’s ability to pick up new strategies:

“Right now, he works out with one of my very good buddies out of Paradigm in Texas, who I actually coached in college at UC Davis. And so, this is a week out (for him) right now. He’s got a full camp, so I’m not sure how much he’s going to be out here for his camp, but it’s probably going to be a more permanent thing for him moving forward. But as of right now, he’s kind of splitting time, and man, what a fast learner and what a positive guy. He’s fun to be around.”

Asked if Northcutt would truly move to Team Alpha Male for good, Faber responded that he thought so, but the final answer would have to come out of ‘Super Sage’s’ mouth:

“I believe so,” Faber said. “You’d have to double check with him, but I think so.”

So nothing is official in terms of Northcutt staying at any one camp – something he’s not known for doing, yet he did recently post a photo of a training session at TAM that included longtime UFC fan favorite Clay Guida and quickly-rising women’s strawweight Cynthia Calvillo, as seen below.

Could this be the end of Northcutt’s roaming ways as he attempts to rebound from a disappointing defeat to fellow prospect Mickey Gall?

Vitor Belfort Leaves Door Open to More Fights In The UFC

Much of the pre-fight talk for UFC 212 has been tied to the idea that Saturday’s card will mark the last time Vitor Belfort throws hands in the Octagon. But, in a recent interview “The Phenom” did, Belfort sounded pretty interested in returning to the UFC after all…

If you’re somewhat surprised and or confused right now, don’t worry. You should be.

After Belfort was bombed out by Kelvin Gastelum in March, he talked about closing the door on his fighting career, after the final fight of his current UFC deal went down. Then, Belfort revealed he wants to continue competing after UFC 212, but outside the promotion. In addition, his manager even reported that Belfort was eyeing potential bouts with Bellator’s Chael Sonnnen or Wanderlei Silva.

So what’s the scoop now? Well, Belfort spoke with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto this week, and “The Phenom” reported he’s enjoyed training at Tristar in Montreal immensely. So much so, Belfort had this to say, when he was asked if his scrap against Nate Marquardt this weekend, will indeed be his last in the Octagon:

“No, I don’t feel that way,” Belfort said. “I’ll be OK if this is my last fight, but it feels more like a new beginning.”

The 40 year-old also added this:

“I feel this can be the beginning of more fights in the UFC.”

So, this is pretty interesting news, considering we’ve gone from ‘Belfort’s retiring’, ‘to okay, he’s just leaving the UFC’, to the possibility of him inking a new deal (although, MMA Fighting is reporting that Belfort in fact has one more bout on his UFC deal – Belfort has said, however, that his contract is ending).

Of course, if Belfort gets taken out by Marquardt, chances are we won’t see the Brazilian star in the Octagon again.

UFC 212 will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at the HSBC Arena.

With Some Help From Twitter, Jake Ellenberger Could Be Next In Line For GSP…If He Can Beat Rory MacDonald

(“Here we are with Ake Jellenberger, you did an awesome job, getting some awesome trash-talk in there, I want to tell me what you see, let’s go ahead and see by the tweets, what you saw, in the computer.” / Photo via Getty)

By Nathan Smith

The war of words heated up between The Juggernaut and The Waterboy — aka Ares, or the Canadian Psycho…too bad Uncle Creepy was already taken — via Twitter this past week, leading up to their UFC on FOX 8 showdown on July 27 from the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington. Because Anderson Silva vs Chris Weidman is on the horizon, many have forgotten that the #3 and #4 ranked welterweights will be squaring off a few weeks after. The latest beef started off as a seemingly harmless question thrown out by Jake Ellenberger to his followers, but apparently Rory MacDonald did not take kindly to it and he made his 140 characters count like they were punches.

Though it is not exactly the magnitude of Twitter beef that Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen engaged in when the American Gangster was trying to goad the LHW champ into accepting his short-notice challenge at the now infamously cancelled UFC 151, but it was still a pretty good shot across the bow by MacDonald even though it took a couple previous Twitter-jabs from Ellenberger to get us to this point.

Awesome.

Awesome.

But this begs the question; since MacDonald is a fellow Tristar teammate of Georges St. Pierre and the champ has already said that he has no desire to fight his perceived heir apparent, what happens if Ellenberger beats (and Molson forbid, KOs) The Waterboy? Since he flattened Nate Marquardt at UFC 158 that would make 2 prominent Tristar guys that The Juggernaut has beaten in a row and then it may become personal for GSP regardless of the outcome of his upcoming WW title defense against Johny Hendricks. We have already seen GSP ask Dana White and the UFC for an opponent (Nick Diaz) once he felt personally disrespected. So what if he feels compelled to defend the name of Firas Zahabi, his defeated training partners and the gym he calls home?

Betting lines say that GSP (-225) and MacDonald (-235) are favored but neither of those figures are King Mo vs Petruzelli-esque. Both Hendricks and Ellenberger have the punching power to upset their foe, but for the sake of argument (and my own sanity), let’s pretend that GSP wins (AMEN!) and Ellenberger wins AND Carlos Condit beats Martin Kampmann in late August.  Who gets the next shot at the title?

If you take into account the official UFC rankings [Ed. note: LMAO], Condit (#2) should be next in line but we’ve already seen how that movie ends. So, if Ellenberger is able to get past MacDonald while mixing in a nice “I guess you can call me the Tristar Hunter” post fight interview with Joe Rogan, something tells me that a potential super-fight with Anderson Silva will be put on hold while GSP tries to avenge his cohorts.
