TORONTO – Kyle Watson doesn’t want to make too big a fuss over his fight against John Makdessi because, well, the two are “definitely not teammates.”
But in a sport in which every little advantage could be the difference between a win and a loss, Watson will take what he can get.
Watson (13-6-1, 1-0 UFC) and Makdessi (8-0, 1-0 UFC) meet on the preliminary card of UFC 129 in Toronto on Saturday, but it was the short time they spent together at the Tristar Gym in Montreal that is eliciting a few whispers.

After making quick work of Aaron Wilkinson in his UFC debut on Saturday, Cody McKenzie won’t waste any time getting back in the cage.
The cast member of Season 12 of “The Ultimate Fighter” will step in to face Yves Edwards at the UFC’s Fight for the Troops event at Fort Hood, Texas, on Jan. 22. He’ll take the place of Melvin Guillard, who now moves up to fight Evan Dunham after Kenny Florian was forced to withdraw with an injury. The McKenzie news was first reported by MMA Junkie, and MMA Fighting has confirmed the lightweight’s participation in the fight with sources close to his camp.

History will say Nam Phan lost his UFC debut on Saturday. But as far as Phan is concerned – and, as it turns out, maybe everyone save for a pair of judges – this one “L” on his resume is spelled with a bunch of silent W’s.
Phan, a semifinalist on Season 12 of “The Ultimate Fighter, drew UFC and WEC veteran Leonard Garcia for Saturday’s live TUF 12 Finale in Las Vegas. Phan seemed to dominate Garcia throughout their fight, which opened Saturday’s main card on Spike TV. But it was Garcia who walked out of the cage with a split decision win.
The judges scored the fight 30-27 for Phan, but two 29-28s for Garcia, leaving Phan stunned, the crowd at The Pearl at The Palms stunned and without doubt the vast majority of the television audience stunned. Even Garcia admitted the judges got it wrong.

Four fighters have received medical suspensions following Saturday’s live finale of Season 12 of “The Ultimate Fighter” in Las Vegas.
Co-main event winner Stephan Bonnar, Fight of the Night winners Leonard Garcia and Nam Phan and Knockout of the Night victim Fredson Paixao were all given medical suspensions by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The NSAC reported the suspensions to MMA Fighting on Monday.
Dana White didn’t make an appearance at the press conference following “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 12 Finale on Saturday.
But even though past comments are no guarantee for what he’ll say in the future, it’s safe to assume the UFC president would have been asked about Steve Mazzagatti, the referee he’s made a habit of being critical of more than any other official.

LAS VEGAS – This is “The Ultimate Fighter” Finale live blog for Igor Pokrajac vs. Stephan Bonnar, the co-main event of tonight’s card at The Pearl at The Palms in Las Vegas.
Pokrajac (22-7, 1-2 UFC), one of the main training partners of Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic in Croatia, is coming off a submission win over James Irvin in August, which snapped a two-fight losing skid to open his UFC career. Bonnar (12-7, 6-6 UFC), runner-up to Forrest Griffin for the Season 1 light heavyweight title, snapped a three-fight skid in July with a TKO win over Krzysztof Soszynski at UFC 116.
