Tyson Fury has already made some big changes to his camp as he prepares to rematch Deontay Wiler in February.

However, an even bigger change could be coming soon. Recently, unified heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua spoke to Sky Sports and actually volunteered to join Fury’s camp for the Wilder rematch as a sparring partner. (H/T RT Sport)

“I think honestly he might beat Wilder next time,” Joshua said. “I think Fury would fight me quicker than Wilder would, so, if that’s the case, I want him to win. Imagine that fight on British soil. If Tyson needs me, I’ll go out and spar with him to get him ready for Wilder.”

It didn’t take Fury long to respond, taking to social media to accept Joshua’s offer if he’s serious about it. Fury also added that, once he beats Wilder, he’d love to fight Joshua next, which would likely be a massive showdown in the United Kingdom. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“I’ve just seen the video of Joshua on Sky Sport saying he’d love to come and help me in camp and that I’d fight him quicker than Wilder, that’s for sure,” Fury said. “When I beat Wilder I will fight you AJ, no problem.”

“I would love to have you in camp, really really love to have in camp, work out for this fight and give Deontay Wilder a proper beating. I hope you mean it because I’d love to have you in training camp with me. Thanks very much by the way and well done for your last fight. Congratulations.”

Do you think Joshua will actually join Fury’s camp? Who are you picking in Fury vs. Wilder 2?

Stipe Miocic is trying to give Daniel Cormier a taste of his own medicine.

Last year, Cormier won the UFC heavyweight title from Miocic with a first-round knockout finish. However, instead of giving Miocic – the winningest heavyweight champion in UFC history – an immediate rematch, Cormier saught a fight with WWE star and ex-UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar. Cormier and Lesnar even had a staredown and shoving match inside the Octagon.

When that fight didn’t materialize right away, Cormier kept busy with a heavyweight title defense over Derrick Lewis, submitting “The Black Beast” inside Madison Square Garden. Cormier promised that, should a fight with Lesnar not happen, he’d grant Miocic a rematch. And so he did.

This time around, however, it was Miocic who stood tall when the dust settled, reclaiming the heavyweight throne with a knockout win of his own. Now, Cormier is calling for a trilogy fight, which will ultimately be the final bout of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career – win or lose. However, now Miocic is trying for a fight with boxing lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, willing to put his trilogy with Cormier on ice, essentially paying “DC” back for the Lesnar drama.

Dana White

Speaking to MMA Junkie, Cormier explains why Miocic’s attempts are “misguided,” and the situation compared to Cormier’s desire to fight Lesnar, is completely different.

“After all that was done last year when I was going to fight Brock Lesnar and I said, ‘I’ll wait for Lesnar, and if Lesnar can’t go I’ll fight Stipe’,” Cormier told MMA Junkie. “I think it’s kind of the same thing (with him trying to fight Tyson Fury). But reality is, it’s vastly different. I think it’s misguided.

“I had Lesnar in my face. He came into the octagon and all that. I’ve got to be honest with you: The moment they said Brock can’t fight, I said, ‘Then let’s give Stipe his fight.’ The moment they said it, I said, ‘OK, find a date for Stipe and I to fight. He deserves his rematch.’

“I think the idea of the way things happened may have been a little bit misunderstood, but it went exactly as I said. From the moment of the fight I said, ‘If Brock doesn’t fight, I’ll fight Stipe.’ When they said, ‘No Brock.’ I said, ‘OK, let’s do Stipe.’”

UFC president Dana White has since suggested both Miocic and Cormier have verbally agreed to a trilogy bout in 2020. However, with Miocic dealing with an injury and no timetable in sight for his recovery, fight fans might have to wait some time for the next heavyweight title defense.

Do you agree with Cormier’s comments on Miocic’s aspirations to fight Fury?

Dana White appears to be coming around to the idea of heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury fighting in the UFC.

Last month the lineal heavyweight boxing champion posted several videos of himself training with middleweight contender Darren Till, who said there is a 70 percent chance Fury makes the jump to MMA.

UFC President White originally scoffed at the idea of Fury switching sports. Speaking to TMZ Sports he said. “Why come over here and get smashed. You’re one of the top four guys in boxing. Why even think about coming over here?”

However,
a month is a long time in the combat sports world and apparently White has
change his tune.

In an interview with Washington based radio station 106.7 FM, White said he had talked with the Englishman who has convince the UFC boss he is serious about crossing over. (H/T 106.7 FM)

“It’s
interesting. He and I talked the other day. He really is interested in fighting,
so I respect that. We’ll see what happens.”

“Let’s see what happens with his boxing career. He’s got this rematch coming up with Wilder, which is obviously huge and a fun fight for the heavyweight division. You’ve got Ruiz and Joshua fighting this weekend. So, we’ll see how that goes and we’ll see what happens.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

This is a drastic change of tune from White, who has at least been convinced of Fury’s intentions to fight if nothing else. But the UFC boss is right Fury has much bigger fish to fry in boxing right now.

The 31-year-old is just a few months away from a mammoth rematch against American heavyweight Deontay Wilder. Beyond that he has lucrative potential match-ups with both Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz waiting in his future.

Do you think Tyson Fury will ever cross over into MMA?

Curtis Blaydes could very well be next in line for a heavyweight title opportunity. However, given the state of the division, any such opportunity would have to wait.

Currently, UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic is healing up from an injury after his title win over Daniel Cormier this past summer. A trilogy bout between Miocic and “DC” is the next planned heavyweight title fight, however, Miocic has also been lobbying for a crossover fight with boxing lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Speaking to MMA Fighting, Blaydes said he can’t fault Miocic for going after the money fight. The money would be phenomenal for such an event.

“Apparently Stipe’s saying he’s interested in fighting Tyson Fury at boxing. That might put the DC trilogy on hold,” Blaydes said. “I don’t put no energy into it. I know what’s going on but I don’t stay up in bed all night and think about all the possible alternate realities. You never know.

“It’s a little bit chaotic, you just have to learn to live with it. I really, really respect Stipe. I understand he wants the money. It’s a money grab. I get it. He would destroy Tyson [in MMA]. It would be a lot of money. Pay-per-views would be out the wazoo.”

While Blaydes respects Miocic, he suggests a potential fight between Fury and Miocic would further delay his timeline for a title shot.

“I respect him and I get why he wants the money but at the same time it does affect my timeline of what I want to get done. I do feel some type of way about it but I’m not going to bash Stipe. I get it,” Blaydes said.

“I get that but then again I’m in the midst of my career and how long do I have to wait for a title shot? How many more money grab fights do I have to wait through before I get a shot?”

Kamil Krzaczynski for USA TODAY Sports

Blaydes will face Junior dos Santos in the main event of UFC Raleigh in late January. Should he win that fight, and Miocic rematch Cormier next without a superfight against Fury, Blaydes likes his chances for a title shot.

“I’ll go with Stipe [to win] again,” Blaydes said. “Especially after both got a win under their belts, if they do fight again, the rounds are going to be a lot more explosive. They’ve both seen what the other one has and they won’t be as tentative. I still think Stipe’s the better striker and he definitely has the reach advantage.

“It all depends if DC goes in there with the mindset just to wrestle, he could probably win, but I think he has an ego. He wants to strike with Stipe and that will be his downfall. I would definitely love to see that happen [with me against Stipe] but right now I’m focused on JDS and we’ll go from there.”

What do you think about Blaydes waiting on a heavyweight title opportunity for so long? Does he deserve it?
