MONTREAL — Josh Koscheck had six weeks to get under Georges St. Pierre‘s skin, six weeks to needle him, taunt him, bait him to react. St. Pierre rarely showed any hint that Koscheck’s mind games were getting to him, even though it’s fairly obvious now that he wants to finish his challenger in a decisive manner, partially as retribution for the constant verbal barrages that came his way during filming of The Ultimate Fighter.

Of course, Koscheck isn’t the first guy to try to work his way into St. Pierre’s head; he’s only the latest. And the UFC welterweight champion says his UFC 124 challenger is not the best of the bunch when it comes to talking smack.

In fact, St. Pierre rates him at No. 3.

MONTREAL — Canada may be known as the “Great White North” to many, but when UFC officials look at the vast North American country on a map, they only see green.

Upon the promotion’s first trip to Canada in 2008, they promptly shattered the North American MMA attendance record, with 21,390 fans paying over $5 million to witness Georges St. Pierre recapturing the UFC welterweight title. That number was eventually topped at another Montreal show, and now it’s expected to fall again at Saturday night’s UFC 124 when St. Pierre takes on Josh Koscheck.

Neither the gate nor attendance records will last very long. UFC’s director of Canadian operations Tom Wright says the company’s Ontario debut at Toronto Rogers Centre next April will soon be the record-holder.

This Saturday, after a season of TUF that saw Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck grow to like each other even less than they already did, the two welterweight stars will square off in the main event of UFC 124. St. Pierre will be attempting to make his fifth-consecutive title defense; GSP has been involved in 10 title fights in his UFC career, but this is just the first for Koscheck.

As you’re probably aware, St. Pierre and Koscheck squared off once before, in the co-headlining match of UFC 74 back in August 2007. St. Pierre had just lost his belt to Matt Serra in a monumental upset. Koscheck was riding a five-fight win streak, and had out-pointed Diego Sanchez four months prior.

Since that night, George St. Pierre has been undefeated and untouchable in six contests, flawlessly sweeping out the 170-pound division. Koscheck has gone 6-2, taking out some tough opponents in impressive fashion, but getting smacked down by a couple of Brazilians. And now, St. Pierre and Koscheck are going at it again. Which means it’s time to re-watch their first fight and see if we can get any perspective on this thing. Let’s begin…

Stefan StruveThe last time Dutch heavyweight Stefan Struve was in the Octagon, things got off to a pretty terrible start. Even before he stepped in the cage at UFC 117 back in August, he already knew it was going to be a rough night.

It started with a light-headed feeling, then a little dizziness, and then some vomiting, all within a couple hours of fight time. This was all due to a bad case of nerves, the 22-year-old Struve said. After getting knocked out in his previous effort against Roy Nelson, he knew he needed to win this one. He let the pressure get to him, and it left him in a weakened state by the time he stepped in against Christian Morecraft in Oakland, Calif.

“The first few minutes of the fight were okay, and then all my energy was gone,” Struve told MMA Fighting. “I just thought, this is not going to be good.”
