UFC 126 went down about as we expected.

Let’s say you had a made a “standard” $100 bet on our best values, here’s how you’d have faired:

:: Public money was heavy on Vitor Belfort, but we just didn’t get it. Nothing against Belfort, but one of our top MMA Fix gambling rules is: Don’t bet against Anderson Silva until proven otherwise (same goes for GSP). By fight-time, the best value we could find for Silva was at -220 on Bookmaker here. So a bet of $100 would’ve earned you $45 in profit.

:: We never understood why Forrest Griffin was the dog against Rich Franklin. This always seemed like a classic Forrest-Griffin-is-all-heart-grind-it-out victory. Which it was. Had you taken the +125, you would’ve profited $125. Had you take the +250 on Griffin winning by decision, you’d have pocketed another $250. And had you taken our “what the eff” bet of a draw, you would’ve dropped $100.

:: Finally, Jon “Bones” Jones at +285 seemed like the lock of the evening. Jones earned the victory and his title shot. A $100 bet would’ve netted you around $35. We pumped this one for way more, but let’s just assume the standard $100 bet.

So if you had bet $100 on all of our suggestions, you would’ve won $455 had you not taken our flier, or $355 if you had. Not a bad night. Special recognition to Friend of Fix Larry Pepe, who nailed all of his picks as well.

Looking forward to tonight’s fights. Here’s a quick last look at our UFC 126 best bets. (Re)watch the above vid for more UFC 126 betting odds and analysis.

:: We know a surprising number of people who are really liking Vitor Belfort in the headliner tonight against Anderson Silva. Public money is clearly coming in heavy on Belfort as well, as his line has moved down around 20-25 points on all sites. While we don’t think you should be betting against The Spider until proven otherwise (especially after his impressive win against a performance-enhanced Chael Sonnen), if you think Belfort has a legit shot at the title, take him a +205 on Bookmaker here. If you’re like us and think the public is usually wrong, grab Silva at -220 here.

:: Can’t wait to see Jon “Bones” Jones on a PPV card finally. He’s the biggest favorite of the main card. Best value for him is at -280 on BetED here.

:: We’ve liked Forrest Griffin from the moment his fight against Rich Franklin was announced. Nothing has changed there. If you’re like us and think Griffin shouldn’t be the dog, take the +125 here.

:: Finally–for props–while we like Griffin, we still think it’ll be a close fight. Bodog has some great props listed, included our two favorites, +250 that Griffin wins by decision and, for our flier of the week, +2600 that the bout ends in a draw. Take a look at all UFC 126 fight props here.

Vitor Belfort Splits From Shawn Tompkins Weeks Before Championship Fight

Shawn “The Coach” Tompkins who heads up Team Tompkins out of TapouT Training Facility in Las Vegas recently disclosed on The Fight Show with Mauro Ranallo that UFC 126 Middleweight Champion Contender, Vitor Belfort had parted ways with Tompkins as he prepares for his February 5th Main Event bout against Middleweight Champion, Anderson Silva. Tompkins said:

“Well, you know, Vitor’s done this before. Vitor sometimes, he gets a little clouded in his head. It’s not that he brought in Mike Tyson or anything like that. Vitor just wanders, you know, and he goes where what’s happening, what’s famous, what’s popular and he’ll go over there. Mike Tyson isn’t teaching him anything. Neither is the other eight gyms that he’s training at. Just because he’s over at Couture’s and not with me doesn’t mean he’s with Couture. Vitor isn’t loyal to anybody. We’ve seen it before.”

Belfort’s decision to leave Tompkins just weeks before his fight seems a bizarre and unfair decision to Shawn Tompkins who has trained Belfort since 2008. Tompkins goes on to say:

“I hope for the best for him, but you know, for a guy who told me about respect, loyalty, and God and all this stuff for so many years, he sure did prove the opposite, so, we’ll see. Best of luck to him. Best of luck to Anderson, as well.”

Find out if our expert panelists believe Belfort’s departure from Shawn Tompkins could negatively affect his upcoming title-shot, when we discuss UFC 126 BETTING ODDS. Stay tuned.
