Eddie Wineland Worth Laying the Dog Money at +330

Urijah Faber is the strong favorite at -430 (and some cases -500) against his opponent, Eddie Wineland but it’s hard to accept Wineland as such a huge underdog. The great part is, he’s definitely worth laying some cash on at a +300 or more value. Wineland is still a virtually unknown 135er but […]

Urijah Faber is the strong favorite at -430 (and some cases -500) against his opponent, Eddie Wineland but it’s hard to accept Wineland as such a huge underdog. The great part is, he’s definitely worth laying some cash on at a +300 or more value. Wineland is still a virtually unknown 135er but he’s on a four fight win streak. Arguably, he hasn’t faced anywhere near top competition. The most recognizable name he’s beaten is George Roop who at 6′1″ with a natural weight of about 160, proved he couldn’t handle that low of a weight class.

But whether or not Wineland has faced top competition should be less of an issue, as we’ve seen Jon Jones tear apart competitors in both the lowest rankings and the top ten. This is Wineland’s first opportunity to mix it up with a well known fighter. Urijah Faber moved back down to Bantamweight and choked out Takeya Mizugaki within the first round, but was it enough to tell us he’s unstoppable in that division? The sportsbooks seem to think so, but the bottom line is we’ve got two strong wrestlers with demonstrated knockout powers pinned against each other this Saturday night and if you’re a betting person, Wineland is worth the gamble.

“Shogun” Rua is Your UFC 128 Best Value Bet

Even Dana White says “the fact that [Maurico “Shogun” Rua] is the underdog is crazy!” But the online sportsbooks have made Shogun the dog by as much as +165. The current UFC Light Heavyweight Champ feels disrespected and rightfully so. Jon “Bones” Jones has proved himself to be a phenomenal athlete and worthy opponent but this is his first crack at a Top 5 fighter in the UFC and this particular Top 5 fighter is actually number 1! Rua established himself as the Light Heavyweight Champion by soundly handing Lyoto Machida his first professional loss with a knockout in the first round of UFC 113.

Shogun is a former Pride Champion, a current UFC Champion and only 6 years older than his 23 year old opponent. Shogun can beat Jon Jones by taking his legs out in similar fashion we saw him batter Machida’s legs. He also has proved several times in his career that he has knockout powerful punches. All eyes are on Jones this Saturday night. But this is also Jon Jones’ fight to lose. In a fight that should be at least EVEN in the books, take advantage of the Rua value.

Jon Jones the UFC 128 Betting Lines Favorite

Vladimir Matyushenko vs Jon Jones
Immediately after his hand was raised in the Octagon, this past Saturday night at UFC 126, Jon Jones was told he would be receiving the Light Heavyweight title-shot in just six weeks against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. The news brought Jones to his knees and he accepted the challenge with huge excitement and appreciation after hearing his Jackson’s Submission Fighting teammate, Rashad Evans had to pull out of the title-tilt due to a knee injury. Jones is not deterred from taking this fight, as he manhandled Ryan Bader through two rounds before choking him out with 40 seconds left in the second and seems to have barely endured a scratch, plus he says he’s already in fighting shape.  His only concern is to not over-train.

Within minutes of the fight announcement, tickets sales for the UFC 128 bout in New Jersey, (neighboring state to Jones’ home state of New York) were reportedly skyrocketing. And now the betting lines are showing Jones as the favorite by as much as -215.

It’s not that surprising seeing as Shogun hasn’t fought since last May. And though he took the title from Lyoto Machida with an impressive KO in the first round, it has been over 10 months since we’ve seen him inside the Octagon, which almost makes him out of sight, out of mind. Currently all hype is squarely on Jon Jones who appears to be the biggest rising star in the UFC.  However, with all the new attention this bout will be getting in the coming weeks leading up to the March 19th Main Event, we expect we’ll see a lot of movement on these lines, so if you think Rua’s experience can beat Jones’ youth then take advantage of his underdog value now which is as much as +175.
