UFC 139 is the perfect example of a card that fight fans dreamed about, but never thought would happen.

Headlining this history-making event in San Jose, California is a Light Heavyweight clash between two of the greatest fighters in Mixed Martial Arts history, as former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua  returns on the heels of a sensational win over Forrest Griffin to combat former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Dan Henderson.

Below that bout is a headliner featuring the debut of Cung Le, who brings a background with the American Kickboxing Academy as well as a wicked Sanshou striking regimen. He serves himself as a challenge to one of the greatest fighters of this generation in Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva, but Silva comes into this fight with the knowledge of what happens if he should lose.

If Silva loses, retirement could call his name and one of the most exciting MMA careers could end in an instant, regardless of whether Wanderlei wants to end it himself or not.

Below the co-headliner are three various affairs: a Bantamweight affair between Urijah Faber and Brian Bowles with UFC Bantamweight title ramifications, a Welterweight affair between Rick Story and Martin Kampmann and one of the more underrated Light Heavyweight battles of 2011 as Stephan Bonnar takes on Kyle Kingsbury.

It’s all right here as UFC 139 comes to you this Saturday night, and with the official B/R staff predictions, my name is Dale De Souza, bringing you the greatest and best predictions on the web with the help of my always deadly partners-in-crime John Heinis, Jordy McElroy and Jeffrey McKinney!

UFC 139 Main Card Predictions

Dan Henderson vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua:

Both Dan Henderson and Shogun Rua enter this fight coming off knockout wins, Henderson over Fedor and Rua over Forrest Griffin. With both fighters having a nice run of KO victories coming into this fight many are expecting this one to end abruptly. I wouldn’t bet the farm on that, in fact I see Henderson taking this one to the ground via his wrestling skills and grinding out the win.  Henderson by unanimous decision.

Wanderlei Silva vs. Cung Le:

There comes a point in every great fighters career where they should retire, sadly, it seems as if Wanderlei Silva is well past that point. He’s 2-6 in his last eight fights and four of those knockouts, including a 27-second KO in his last fight, have been pretty nasty.  Silva will be facing a UFC newcomer in Le, but that newcomer has finished every single fight he has won with a KO or TKO.  I don’t see this one ending any differently. Le by TKO

Urijah Faber vs, Brian Bowles:

This fight may very well decide who is the next fighter to challenge for Dominick Cruz’s bantamweight title.  Both fighters probably deserve to be in this situation, with that being said Faber is probably a level higher in overall talent than Bowles add to that the fact that Bowles quit in his corner in a title fight because of a broken hand, and Faber has the advantage in mental toughness as well.  Add these things up and you have the makings of Faber vs. Cruz III.  Faber by unanimous decision.

Martin Kampmann vs. Rick Story:

Two fighters that had runs toward the top of the welterweight division derailed will meet up in this bout.  Kampmann is coming off two controversial losses that could have gone either way, while Story is coming back from a loss to a fighter that was ranked much lower than he was.  I don’t think Kampmann is in danger of being cut with a loss here, as he was close to winning both of his last two, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t going to fight like his back’s against the wall.  Kampmann by unanimous decision.

Stephan Bonnar vs. Kyle Kingsbury:

This one may not be the best fight for a main card if you look strictly at rankings, but if you look at this one as pure entertainment, well, you could do worse.  Look for a pure stand up battle, that will go the three round distance.  Kingsbury by split decision.

Back in the early part of the 2000’s, many fans would sit on the edge of their seats waiting for a trademark right hand from Chuck Liddell or a devastating head kick from Mirko Cro Cop.

Those fighters had signature moves that made their fights even more fun to watch than the rest, mostly because it was like waiting for a ticking time bomb to go off.

While both of these MMA legends have since retired, there is no shortage of fighters that have the potential to land a trademarked strike or submission at any second, and the moves on this list are some of the best the sport has to offer.

Our friends at MMA H.E.A.T. caught up with Martin Kampmann, and not only do you get some insight into “The Hitman,” you get Xtreme Couture striking coach Ray Sefo cutting through the interview to go watch X Factor while Kyle Kingsbury shows off his chest.

Definitely some shenanigans worth watching.

Be sure to tune in this Saturday night for all the fights, as Martin Kampmann will be taking on Rick Story and Kyle Kingsbury will step into the Octagon opposite Stephan Bonnar.

Also on the main card will be Brian Bowles trying to knock off Urijah Faber and in the co-main, Cung Le will be making his UFC debut against a living legend in Wanderlei Silva and PRIDE legends Shogun Rua and Dan Henderson will be colliding in a fight that surely can’t go all five rounds, can it?

Our Friends at MMA30 met with Team AKA’s Josh Koscheck, Jon Fitch, Daniel Cormier and Luke Rockhold as they volunteered at Martha’s Kitchen in San Jose, California helping to feed those in need.

Luke was stingy with the franks n’ beans, Fitch was criticized for his cupcake delivery method and Cormier worked on perfecting his serving techniques.

The event showcases UFC’s continued commitment to get involved with the local communities that they bring their fight card to. The great thing about an event like this is that it really showcases that fighters are people, just like the rest of us. They may get in the cage and battle as modern day warriors, but they also care about being part of the community that helps their fellow man.

UFC 139 Fight Card: Cung Le Will Have No Problems KOing Wanderlei Silva

Wanderlei Silva has been in too many wars. His battle against Cung Le at UFC 139 may be his last.

The Brazilian legend, who made his fame in Japan’s Pride Fighting Championships, is the veteran of over 40 fights, many of them the most classic in the organization.

However, time stands still for no man; all of those fights have taken their toll on Silva’s body.

“The Axe Murderer” is 2-6 in the last five years, with four of those losses being by knockout (and each knockout loss was progressively worse).

Most recently, Silva was easily disposed of by popular brawler Chris Leben in less than 30 seconds.

After that fight, Silva found himself between retirement and a return to the Octagon. A normal man would spare his body and mind the pain of another trip into the cage, but Wanderlei Silva isn’t a normal man.

Retirement never crossed his mind.

That might not have been the best decision, though.

Silva has since been matched up with eclectic Sanshou fighter Cung Le at this Saturday’s UFC 139 event in San Jose, Calif.

A fighter like Le will present problems that an aged Silva may not be able to cope with.

Le throws many unorthodox strikes and is skilled at avoiding punishment, unless he gets gassed in the later rounds, like his first fight against Scott Smith. Silva has shown in his recent fights that he just likes to charge forward with reckless abandon.

This will create problems for Silva because Le will almost definitely land powerful counter shots that will hurt Silva and probably knock him out since, sadly, Silva’s chin isn’t what it used to be.

Silva’s style was great back in the day when he was healthy and hadn’t been through tremendous punishment. But now, fighters with even average power could probably put Silva out.

Thus, a striker of Le’s precision will have no problem hitting Silva on the button and sending him into unconsciousness, hopefully for the last time in his career, lest he keeps going and gets permanent damage.

Had this fight taken place in the early-to-mid 2000s, it’d be a different story. The fight would be over quickly, but not because of Silva’s weak chin.

Le would’ve thrown a fancy kick, Silva would’ve avoided it, rushed into the pocket, and proceeded to beat Le to a pulp.

However, it isn’t that time anymore. Wanderlei Silva is worse for the wear. His body is tired, his strength is waning.

It’s a shame legends have to get old.
