Today, I’m going to look at potential matchups that could be featured on this historic card.
At UFC 100, there were two title fights, a matchup of Ultimate Fighter coaches and two other matchups with high-profile fighters.
UFC 150 is likely to take place around Memorial Day weekend, so it was difficult to try and figure out when some fighters could be fighting, but this is an early glimpse at what the main card could potentially offer.
Additionally, to those out there calling for five title fights on this card, think about the implications that would have on other cards around the same timeframe. It wouldn’t work out.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at a possible main card for UFC 150.
There are some UFC events that just due to their number, will need to be big events.UFC 100 was the first big example of that. At UFC 100, there were two title fights, featuring Georges St-Pierre against Thiago Alves for the welterweight title, and Bro…
There are some UFC events that just due to their number, will need to be big events.
UFC 100 was the first big example of that. At UFC 100, there were two title fights, featuring Georges St-Pierre against Thiago Alves for the welterweight title, and Brock Lesnar against Frank Mir for the heavyweight title.
The rest of the card wasn’t half bad, either. Yoshihiro Akiyama took on Alan Belcher in a fight of the night performance, Jon Fitch took on Paulo Thiago and the coaches from season nine of The Ultimate Fighter faced off, as Dan Henderson delivered a highlight reel knockout over Michael Bisping.
Not only was the main card stacked, but the preliminary card featured Mark Coleman against Stephan Bonnar, Jon Jones against Jake O’Brien, Jim Miller against Mac Danzig, Dong Hyun Kim against TJ Grant and more.
This card was jam packed with talent.
The next big event, as far as numbers are concerned, should be UFC 150. What could UFC President Dana White, have in store for the fans this time?
Based on the current trend of events, it’s a fair guess that this card could be around Memorial Day or the Fourth of July, 2012.
Those two weekends are two of the four biggest for the UFC, throughout the year. The other two would be New Years and Super Bowl weekend.
So what could possibly be in store for that event?
White has recently talked about hoping to return to Brazil, and hoping to do an event in a soccer stadium that could hold 100,000 people. Wouldn’t that be a fantastic way to kick UFC 150 off? With the biggest crowd ever in UFC history?
Maybe, with his recent comments about holding two events at the same time, he could do something with that.
Perhaps an event in Vegas, or Japan, or somewhere else entirely and an event in Brazil with one leading directly into the other, to put together five or six stacked hours of UFC action.
Potentially, this event could have the biggest crowd and venue in UFC history, on one of their biggest weekends of the year, and don’t you think that White wouldn’t schedule some of the biggest fights in UFC history for this?
Before this card even starts, it would be a huge success for the UFC.
With their recent deal with Fox, you can be sure that you would see massive promotion for this during Family Guy, The Simpsons and everything else out there.
Not only would they get Fox promotion, but there have also been promos on ESPN, as well.
MMA is getting bigger by the day, and by the time that UFC 150 rolls around, it could be a huge proving ground for the fastest growing sport in the world.
Stay tuned later in the week to see my predictions for the main card of UFC 150.
