There’s no place for CM Punk to go from here but back to training and the drawing board after his UFC 203 loss to Mickey Gall.

While some believe that was it as far as an MMA career goes for the former WWE superstar, Punk – who’s real name is Phil Brooks – still believes the best is yet to come.

“It was the time of my life. I feel I’m better than I showed,” Punk said. “Hats off to Mickey. He’s an up-and-comer. I’ve got some things to remember this from.”

After signing with the UFC after leaving the WWE, many questioned if Punk would even get inside the Octagon. He worked with Roufusport and Duke Roufus ahead of the debut, but was quickly taken down by Gall and finished two minutes later.

While his next fight remains a mystery, Punk said one thing is for sure in his future.

“There’s a lot of food in my future,” he said. “I’ll take a little vacation from the gym which means that I’ll probably be back in there on Tuesday. I want to do better.”

Who’s Next For Stipe Miocic? Opinions Differ On Subject

Stipe Miocic scored his first successful UFC heavyweight title defense this past weekend at UFC 203 over Alistair Overeem, finishing the former Strikeforce champion in the first round.

So, what’s next for Miocic? While UFC president Dana White declined to state any potential bouts, Daniel Cormier and Dan Hardy discussed the possibilities on the post-fight show.

“Cain Velasquez vs. Stipe Miocic is the best fight we could put on,” Cormier said of his AKA teammate and close friend. “I believe these are the two best in the division. The heavyweight division is moving fast right now, and Junior Dos Santos looked great as well, until he got hurt.”

Velasquez scored a recent win over Travis Browne, finishing him in the first round and improving to 5-1 over his last six. The lone loss during that time came to Fabricio Werdum for the title last year.

That’s the person Hardy believes should be next. Werdum rebounded from his knockout loss to Miocic for the belt by scoring a decision over Browne.

“I’d like to see Fabricio Werdum fight him again,” Hardy said. “He didn’t look great, but we know he’s better. He just lost the title to Miocic. Let them fight on neutral territory. Then there’s Josh Barnett, who just won last week. It’s time to push him up to a title fight.”

Stipe Miocic successfully retained his heavyweight crown last night (September 11, 2016) when he clashed with No. 3-ranked Alistair Overeem in the main event of UFC 203, but it didn’t come without a bit of controversy.

Immediately after the bout’s conclusion Overeem told UFC commentator Joe Rogan that he felt Miocic tap while locked into a guillotine choke, that Miocic would later escape and go on to finish his counterpart late in the first round.

Following the pay-per-view (PPV) event, courtesy of MMA Fighting, Miocic recounted when he initially heard of Overeem’s accusations that he tapped:

“I just remember signing my check and all that good stuff, and I heard boos,” Miocic explained. “I asked what they (the crowd) were booing about because I knew he (Overeem) was talking, and they told me that he said that I tapped out. I don’t remember tapping out, I just remember punching his face repeatedly until he was unconscious.”

The Croatian champ finds it hard to understand how Overeem would assume he tapped when in fact both his hands were on Overeem’s in attempt to slip free of the choke:

“I don’t know how I can tap out when I have two hands on his hands,” Miocic said. “But yeah he’s also not feeling too good right now. I mean, that’s terrible. He could really hurt me. He threw harder than I thought, he kicked harder than I thought, and you know, that was my own fault, but I knew everything that was coming.

“Listen, I trained for these kind of situations. He put me on my ass, you know. I felt fine, and he got me on that front headlock (guillotine choke) and I just kept scooting my right knee. I popped out, he didn’t like it, and then he gave me the opportunity to grab his leg, so I followed him and right when I got on top of him, game over.”
