After surrendering his title in brutal fashion to Michael Bisping, whom he had beaten back in 2014, at June’s UFC 199, Luke Rockhold made it clear that he wanted a trilogy bout with “The Count”. He wasn’t given his wish, however, and Bisping will defend his title against Dan Henderson tonight (October 8, 2016) in the main event of UFC 204 from Manchester, England.
As far as tonight’s fight goes, Rockhold is torn on who he would like to win. While he would like to see a friend in Henderson put Bisping ‘to sleep’, he’d also like to get another chance at “The Count” for the title:
“I’m on both sides,” Rockhold told Ariel Helwani recently during an in-studio appearance on The MMA hour. “I mean, of course I would love to fight Bisping. I would love to beat him.
“It sounds appealing, going out there and getting to finish that one. I put him away fairly easily the first time and I got caught the second time, and so I would love to go solidify who the better fighter is. And so, that would be nice, but I’m not going to hold onto it. I’m not going to hold onto that and make that be my dying desire, to have that fight. I hope Dan goes out there and wins. I’m a friend of Dan’s and I don’t really care if I get that as much. I’d rather have Dan go out there and put him to sleep. It would be sweet both ways.”
While it seems as if the masses are picking Bisping to win, Henderson’s patented right hand can never be counted out. After all, it was that right hand that Henderson used to score one of the most iconic knockouts of all-time when he and Bisping met for the first time at UFC 100. Either way, “Hendo” has sworn that tonight will be the last time we see him in the Octagon win, lose or draw.
Rockhold admitted that he was ‘surprised’ to see the UFC grant Henderson the shot given the fact that he’s hell-bent on retiring:
“Yeah, I guess,” he said. “I was surprised, I thought that might deter them from making that choice, but he stood firm to what he was saying and they granted him the shot, so good for Dan.”
Rockhold is set to rematch Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza next month with a title shot potentially looming in the balance. If he can get by “Jacare” and earn a title shot, who do you expect him to face?

That evening, it’s salt, saunas and swaddling as fighters like Vitor Belfort and Gegard Mousasi sweat out the final pounds. The fighters hit the scale Friday afternoon, and in classic Bisping form, “The Count” runs his mouth all the way from that event through the evening’s event for fans.

Opening the UFC 204 Fight Pass prelims was Adriano Martins vs. Leonardo Santos in a lightweight bout. This fight was not very good. In round 1, they had a feeling out process to begin the round. The pace picked up late in the round but Santos was moving a lot and Martins was having a hard time connecting. In round 2, Santos was throwing a lot of kicks and Martins was answering. This one turned into a kickboxing match. Martins started to change things up in this round but there wasn’t a ton of action. In round 3, Martins worked over the legs of Santos and then landed an elbow. They exchanged for the entire round with Martins being the more aggressive fighter. The judges gave the win to Santos by split decision.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort may be stepping inside the Octagon to take on Gegard Mousasi in the co-main event of UFC 204 tonight (October 8, 2016), but he had some words for 185-pound champ Michael Bisping when joining FS1 after weigh-ins.
Bisping and Belfort have a history with one another after their initial meeting at UFC on FX 7 back in 2013, when ‘The Phenom’ finished ‘The Count’ with a vicious head-kick followed up by some nasty punches.
Belfort believes the Brit will soon be wanting to to avenge his loss to him, that is if he is able to get past the hard-hitting ‘Hendo’ in the main event tonight:
“I bet he’ll be asking for this fight,” Belfort said (courtesy of FOX Sports). “I think that’s what he wants. He doesn’t forget me. That guy cannot forget me. I’m in his head.”
The Brazilian has always been quite the draw when he competes in his home country, but while he does admit he makes a good payday every time he steps into the Octagon, he still feels he is being under-paid for what he is worth to the promotion:
“Every fight for me it’s a good payday. But I think my value is much more than I’m earning right now, what I bring into the sport,” Belfort said. “I really do believe, especially where this sport is, my value can be much bigger than what it is right now. There’s no doubt about it.”
“I love to compete and of course now that the real money’s in the sport, I’m looking for fight that’s going to be relevant for myself. For business and this is a business as well as a competition,” Belfort said. “I’m looking to have fun and make a lot of money.”
With his fight against Mousasi on the horizon, Belfort believes a win over former Stikeforce champ will up his stock and create even more big money fight opportunities for him:
“That’s the fight we wanted. He wanted it as well. When two guys want it, it’s good. Business is done,” Belfort said.
“It’s just shows the value. My stake goes up. Guys want to fight you and not the champion, that makes you special. People don’t want to fight a bum. People want to fight guys that’s relevant to the sport and that raises your price. That’s good. It shows what I’ve done. That’s what we’re here for. We’re here to fight each other. “
Belfort and Mousasi will meet in the co-main event of UFC 204 live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England on October 8, 2016.
