Following the wild scene at Thursday’s final UFC 205 pre-fight press conference, which has become commonplace at Conor McGregor-led press events, UFC has released a video that includes reaction interviews from pay-per-view headliners Conor McGregor and Eddie Alvarez.
Featured above is the video that the UFC released on their official YouTube channel this weekend called, “UFC 205: Alvarez and McGregor React To Today’s Press Conference,” which features the UFC Featherweight Champion and UFC Lightweight Champion commenting on nearly getting into a physical altercation — which almost saw Alvarez take a steel chair to the face from McGregor, WWE style.
UFC 205: Alvarez vs. McGregor takes place on Saturday, November 12th from the world-famous Madison Square Garden arena in New York City.

Two massive title bouts will close out the historic UFC 205 pay-per-view (PPV) card tomorrow night (Saturday November 12, 2016), as UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will attempt to win a second title when he takes on Eddie Alvarez for the 155-pound throne in the night’s main event; while Tyron Woodley will defend his title against perennial contender Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson in the co-featured bout of the evening.
Earlier today (Friday November 11, 2016) both Woodley and McGregor weighed in for their respective contests in New York City this morning, to where the two champions engaged in a rather interesting stare-down with one another:
Shortly after this Woodley took to Twitter to comment on the altercation, to which ‘The Chosen One’ stated he wasn’t phased on bit by the Irishman’s presence. This would erupt into a brief exchange between the two champs, in which McGregor would repeatedly call Woodley a ‘bitch’:
McGregor is no stranger to the 170-pound division, as he embarked on a two-fight feud with Nate Diaz in the UFC’s welterweight division, where ‘Notorious’ currently holds a record of 1-1. In his initial meeting with Diaz in the main event of UFC 196 last March, McGregor was choked out in the second round via rear-naked choke after being rocked by the former Ultimate Fighter winner on the feet.
Five months later the pair would rematch in one of the biggest fights in UFC history, to which McGregor would see his hand raised in a majority decision after a 25-minute blood bath of a war.
McGregor has expressed interest in going after the UFC’s 170-pound title before, but for the time being that strap currently rests around the waist of Woodley who has looked rather frightening as of late. If McGregor and Woodley should find themselves throwing down with one another inside the Octagon in the near future, it should be an interesting contest to say the least.
Another fight on the undercard with main event potential, the battle between strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk and challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz is one that features a pretty interesting story line: who is the best strawweight in Poland?
Another fight on the undercard with main event potential, the battle between strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk and challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz is one that features a pretty interesting story line: who is the best strawweight in Poland? According to UFC president Dana White, Jedrzejczyk specifically requested for Kowalkiewicz to be invited to the promotion to prove who is the better Polish fighter. If true it’s a great premise for a movie, but even without the intrigue the fight would be interesting enough to tune in for. Will Jedrzejczyk’s polished striking and camp switch make her look even more unbeatable or will Kowalkiewicz prove she’s the best in the world with her pressure and clinch game.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk is a competitor. She’s not one to shy away from a challenge, an attitude that has led her to UFC gold. But it wasn’t only her mental strength and will that got her to the top, but her sharp striking skills on the feet. Joanna doesn’t simply play counter striker or pressure fighter but a balanced game that works off her jab. She likes to enter with her jabs to understand and judge distance, but to also set up her combinations. Depending on how her opponent reacts she’ll either wait for a counter or pressure her opponent with a string of blistering strikes. Once her opponent is pressed up on the look for Joanna to continue to pressure while at the same time controlling her adversary’s movement with her own slick footwork.
But the champ has her hands full with challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz. While many may look at Joanna Jedrzejczyk as an unbeatable force, Karolina Kowalkiewicz has proven that she’s adept at creating chaos in her fights before choosing to enter the clinch and crush opponents with her inside game. Elbows, uppercuts, and knees come flying with no end in sight. Unlike some of the champ’s prior opponents, Kowalkiewicz has an insane gas tank and doesn’t appear to get discouraged if things aren’t going her way. In fact, she does seem to get stronger the longer the fight carries on. If she is able to put some doubt in the champ’s head and continues to work at a high pace in the championship rounds then we could be seeing the belt change hands.
This is a fun and closely contested match up featuring the best Polish MMA has to offer. While Karolina Kowalkiewcz may be a true threat to the champ, Jedrzejczyk’s use of footwork and angles may prove to be too much for Karolina to overcome. Look for Joanna Jedrzejczyk to win by decision.

After three years of ripping it up in the UFC, Conor McGregor finds himself at the pinnacle of MMA. Facing lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at the blockbuster UFC 205 pay-per-view in New York, McGregor will attempt to make history. Should the Irish bad boy take out ‘The Silent Assassin,’ he will break arguably the holiest of records, holding two belts in separate divisions at once. The storyline is similar to that of his previous opponents, the only difference is the previously mentioned title ramifications and the iconic first-time trip to NYC.
Press Conference Antics
At the UFC 205 pre-fight presser last night, ‘The Notorious’ was on typically sharp-wit form. Following a 30-minute delay in his arrival, McGregor showed up dressed as and acting like a trash talking pimp. Arguably the best talker in the game, McGregor knows exactly how to sell a fight, but are his antics getting a little predictable, dare we say it, old now? Let’s take a look a some of the moments during last night’s presser.
The ‘scuffle’ between Eddie Alvarez and Conor McGregor looked staged, at best, and lacked any sense of either authenticity or relevance. Yes, this is entertainment, but any fan worth their salt could see directly through this ‘near chair throw’ and display of Dana White’s wrestling skills. Look at it from Tron Woodley’s angle, via his Instagram account:
Granted sometimes these moments don’t go exactly as planned for promoters, but is this a sign of Conor McGregor’s antics losing their sting? Maybe after the infamous UFC 202 bottle throwing incident the promotion have put restrictions on just how much drama they’ll accept. Maybe, and perhaps this is a little too ‘outside the box,’ the UFC should look at other ways of gaining interest in fights. Already a highly pivotal and historic event, to quote Nick Diaz, selling ‘wolf tickets’ was not really required.
Thinking back to some of the greatest rivalry moments in UFC history; McGregor and Diaz’s FOX argument, Jones and Cormier’s ‘hot mics’ outtake, even as far back as Ken Shamrock’s living death comments on Tito Ortiz, these all had the undeniable x-factor to make them unforgettable. Without wanting to degrade this beef or sound pessimistic, what we saw last night seemed like a man running out of that promo steam.
Time Off
Potentially looking at some time off after UFC 205, it’s understandable if McGregor is growing weary of sporting his outlandish character around for the media. Could he be heaping too much pressure on himself? Probably not, but there is an opportunity to be had for everyone here. If trash talking and staged confrontations is becoming old hat, surely there is a new method of self promotion waiting to be found.
Let’s look at it like this-since 2000 the formula for selling UFC fights has pretty much been the same. Boxing too follows this stringent code to sell seats and PPV buys, will this trend continue forever, or are we now starting to see the end as fans become a little more clued up?
It would be ironic to see the biggest trash talker and showman in the game usher in a new era of promotion, and if the new owners want to pioneer it, they need to get ahead of the curve now.
UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez let it rip earlier today (Thursday November 10, 2016) at the UFC 205 pre-fight press conference in New York City, as ‘The Underground King’ was at his most vocal that we’ve ever seen him in his UFC career. UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez let it rip earlier today (Thursday November 10, 2016) at the UFC 205 pre-fight press conference in New York City, as ‘The Underground King’ was at his most vocal that we’ve ever seen him in his UFC career.
The lightweight champ showed up on time to the press conference along with everyone else who was set to appear, however, in typical McGregor-like fashion ‘The Notorious One’ was fashionably late to the party. When McGregor and Alvarez’s mini clash, in which the featherweight champ almost tossed a chair at his opponent this weekend, finally settled down the two then engaged in a verbal spat with one another:
Alvarez: “I wan’t an apology from him, I want an apology for saying that my wife and kids –”
McGregor: “Suck these big Irish balls.”
Alvarez: “If he don’t apologize, then I’m gonna make him beg. I’m gonna give him a chance to apologize, you apologize to me.”
McGregor: “These big Irish balls all in ya face.”
Alvarez:“Then it’s done, then it’s done.”
It didn’t end there, however, as McGregor was once again asked what his big announcement would be after the conclusion of the bout, but again the 145-pound champ would simply respond by telling fans to buy the pay-per-view (PPV) to find out. Alvarez would then cut in and claim to know what the big announcement is, claiming that McGregor is expecting to welcome two children into the world, but his longtime girlfriend isn’t going to have twins:
McGregor:“Don’t worry about it, just buy that pay-per-view (PPV) twice.”
Alvarez:“I can tell you what that special announcement is, you guys wanna know what it is?”
“Conor is having two kids and his girlfriend is not having twins, so you guys do the math.”
With McGregor having the opportunity to go into Madison Square Garden and become the first dual-weight champion in UFC history, Alvarez will be using the massive stage to accomplish a similar task, and that is to prove to everyone once and for all that he is the true 155-pound champion and nobody will be taking the strap off of him for a long time:
“I’ve always been The Underground King of this sport,” Alvarez said. “I’ve always been UFC champion — whether I was here or not. It just was a matter of time before I got here and got this belt, and no one is getting it from me.”
With all the bad blood between Alvarez and McGregor continuing to spill out in the worst of ways, their legendary match-up in New York City can be expected to be quite the spectacle to watch.
Alvarez and McGregor will meet in the main event of UFC 205 for the lightweight title live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the Madison Square Garden arena in New York City this Saturday night (November 12, 2016).

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has been accused of making the UFC more like WWE than mixed martial arts, and never was that more apparent than at today’s (Thurs., November 10, 2016) UFC 205 pre-fight press conference from New York.
After an emotional Alvarez stormed out of the presser when McGregor showed up late (similar to what Nate Diaz did at UFC 202 this August), the scene only got stranger when ‘The Notorious’ showed up in full white mink.
Shenanigans predictably ensued with the fighters having to be separated by UFC President Dana White, and then McGregor grasped a steel chair to brandish at ‘The Underground King.’
