As noted, UFC officially announced the long-awaited Octagon return of mega-star Ronda Rousey on Tuesday afternoon. The former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion will be meeting the current Women’s 135-pound champion Amanda Nunes in the main event of the UFC 207 pay-per-view in December.

But wait, there’s more.

According to UFC President Dana White, who broke the news regarding the Nunes-Rousey bout during his appearance on “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd on Tuesday, if Rousey gets her hand raised against Nunes in December it will only be a matter of time before the former MMA Dream Match between Rousey and Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino finally comes to fruition.

“If Ronda wins the title back, the Cyborg fight will definitely happen,” White told Cowherd on Tuesday. You can watch footage of his appearance above.

It appears as if Ronda Rousey will be making her long awaited return to the Octagon as she is set to face off with current UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes.

While many have been speculating for some time now whether or not Ronda Rousey would make a return to mixed martial arts, it appears that UFC President Dana White has put those discussions to rest as the former champion looks to take back the belt.

The bout is set to go down at UFC 207 with more bouts to be announced in the coming weeks. Ronda is certainly going to have her hands full with Amanda Nunes, but perhaps the time away from the spotlight has allowed her time to lick her wounds and improve on her game. Here’s hoping for a barnburner of a fight.

Word of a ‘huge UFC announcement’ from UFC President Dana White was swirling all day today (Wed., October 12, 2016), and the exec delivered just that.

Speaking during an appearance on FOX Sports 1’s “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd, White revealed that longtime former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey would finally be making her long-awaited return to the Octagon to face current champion Amanda Nunes in the main event of December 30’s UFC 207 from Las Vegas:

Rumors of the bout have been circulating for weeks, and MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani said the bout was close to being official late last night. Rousey has been out of action since suffering her first MMA loss to Holly Holm in the main event of last year’s UFC 193.

The onetime dominant queen, who built a superstar persona in Hollywood built on the foundation of her once-thought-to-be-invincible fighting prowess, has also hardly been seen in the public eye since the defeat.

With Invicta FC featherweight champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos now having won two UFC bouts over lesser-known competition in Lina Lansberg and Leslie Smith, the brutalizing Brazilian has once again ramped up trash talk directed at “Rowdy,” posting a seething, lengthy response to the UFC’s perceived booking of Nunes vs. Rousey before the fight was even announced.

Stepping right back into a bout with the most dangerous women’s fighter ever, and one that has never competed at her weight class, simply wouldn’t be the smartest career move for Rousey coming in off an already-devastating loss, and she appears to know it. Holm, despite obviously possessing knockout power of her own, can’t hold a candle to Cyborg in that department.

Of course Nunes is far from a slouch in that department, as she battered former champion Miesha Tate, who submitted Holm to win the belt at March’s UFC 196, at July’s UFC 200 to secure the title. For that reason, ‘Cupcake’ thinks Nunes would be a big, big problem for Rousey.

Do you?

There’s been a ton of speculation about former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey in recent weeks. Following Amanda Nunes’ title win against Miesha Tate at UFC 200, ‘Lioness’ claimed she wanted Rousey in her first title defense. At the time ‘Rowdy’ was recovering from some minor surgeries, now things are starting to look a little different. Yesterday images surfaced of ‘Rowdy’ looking in fighting shape again, but fans had mostly hoped for the long awaited clash with Cris Cyborg.

After a year away from the sport following her brutal loss to Holly Holm, Ronda Rousey is reported to be returning against Amanda Nunes. Although Ariel Helwani is not an official source for UFC fight announcements, he’s proven to be extremely reliable in the past. Before calling it a night late Tuesday, Helwani posted this bombshell to Twitter. Considering his accuracy of all things UFC in the past year, nearly getting banned for life from UFC events in the process, this is as close to gospel as it gets right now:

Rousey vs. Nunes

UFC 193 marked the last time Ronda Rousey fought, and the final time she walked to the UFC octagon as champion. Following her soul-crushing defeat to ‘The Preacher’s Daughter,’ Rousey’s future in the sport became uncertain. Perhaps due to the mass amount of hype behind her, ‘Rowdy’ had really bought in to the indestructible aura she flaunted. In the fight game, there’s no such thing, and the realization of this was possibly more hard to swallow than the head kick that toppled the queen from the throne.

Two champions later, and the talk is once again all about ‘Rowdy,’ but will she be able to bounce back? Nunes is big for the division, has nice striking and a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. UFC 207 goes down in the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, NV on December 30. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
