The UFC women’s featherweight division has been up in the air, to say the least as there are not many fighters assigned to the division, which was created for former Invicta champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino, who wanted the promotion to create a division that she could fight in. Following a few bouts at catchweight, the UFC created the division for Cyborg. After Cyborg had passed up a few fights, the UFC decided to book Holly Holm vs. Germaine de Randamie to determine the first-ever UFC women’s featherweight champion in January, which was won by de Randamie.

Reigning Invicta featherweight queen Megan Anderson has been patiently waiting to get the call for her UFC debut, and her wish might be granted. On Monday afternoon, Anderson did a Skype interview on the latest edition of The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. During the interview, Justino called in, and she stated that she would gladly fight Anderson at UFC 214 if de Randamie is not available.

“I’ve always expressed interest in taking the next step up to the UFC,” Anderson said on the show (transcript courtesy of BJPenn.com. “We haven’t been approached about doing that, so I think really it’s on them to come to us and say ‘hey let’s start negotiating.’ I feel like this is the fight that should have happened, and I think now’s the time. If Germaine isn’t going to be able to do it, let’s crown the people’s champ. I don’t need any more time. I’m fine for July 29,” Anderson added later. “Let’s do it.”

“I’ll fight [Cyborg] regardless,” she said of whether a belt should be on the line in a fight with Cyborg. “It should of been us [that fought for the inaugural title], it wasn’t, that’s fine, let’s do it now.”

Justino has stated in the past that a bout at UFC 214 with Anderson would be a solid consolation prize if De Randamie is not available. Now that Anderson has agreed to the bout, it appears that the UFC just needs to figure out if the bout is for the undisputed title, an interim title, or just a regular bout.

Daniel Cormier Sheds Light On Jon Jones’ USADA Issues

UFC Light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is hoping to face former champion and former pound-for-pound king Jon Jones at UFC 214 this summer. “Bones” is currently serving out a USADA suspension that will end in July.

The two first met at UFC 182 in Jan. 2015 where Jones took home a unanimous decision victory. He then, however, tested positive for cocaine metabolites in the aftermath of the bout. They were then set to rematch at UFC 200 last July, but Jones was forced to withdraw just days prior after being flagged by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) for an anti-doping violation.

Cormier recently blasted the ex-champions for his issues with USADA:

“Last time — I’m a truth teller — the first fight when me and Jon fought there were stories about him hiding from USADA or some [expletive] like that. Then when he finally did get his test, he tested positive for cocaine and his body levels were all just completely out of whack as if he had just finished doing some illegal stuff,” Cormier explained when speaking to FOX Sports.

“Then after he got himself into that trouble, he came back and he fought Ovince Saint-Preux. He was big and he was strong and he looked fantastic and it was his first fight under USADA and he fought like [expletive]. So then at UFC 200, he probably said ‘I can’t really do this the way I want to do it without my help.’ So he said ‘I’m just going to try it again’ and he tested positive again.”

In fact, Cormier even went as far to imply that Jones has been using steroids:

“He may want to try to learn how to do this the correct way before he fights me. I hate saying a guy used steroids, but all signs point to him doing something wrong,” Cormier said. “Let’s be honest. From the test levels from before the first time we fought and then his test results didn’t become available until after the fight. So there’s smoke there obviously.”

UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has made it clear and thrown down the challenge. He is ready for his rematch with bitter rival Jon Jones, and it appears that the fight will take place at UFC 214. While the UFC has yet to make the bout official, it has been a long road to having a second showdown between these two fighters. The fight is being targeted for the July 29 event, which takes place at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. The main card airs on pay-per-view while the prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Cormier did not confirm the matchup on this week’s edition of UFC Tonight on FOX Sports 1 where he is the co-host. Jones has fought just once since his initial clash with Cormier at UFC 182 in January 2015 because of various outside-the-octagon issues. His last fight came in April 2016 at UFC 197 resulted in a unanimous-decision win over Ovince Saint Preux. On the other hand, Cormier, who is coming off a second-round submission of Anthony Johnson earlier this month at UFC 210, has teased a potential title defense against Jimi Manuwa. Cormier stated that he calls the shots in the division and that Jones shouldn’t fight anyone but him upon his return.

“Take the fight with me, Jon Jones,” Cormier said (transcript courtesy of MMA Junkie. “There are no tune-up fights in the UFC. Try to get your title back. Come meet your boy ‘DC,’ come get this money. Let’s get money together and give the people in Anaheim a show. No tune-up for Jon Jones, he gets to come and get beat by me this time. We’re fighting right now, or he doesn’t get to fight me. It’s my rules, I’m the champ now.”

It will be very interesting to see if the Cormier vs. Jones rematch will serve as the UFC 214 main event as UFC President Dana White has suggested it will not due to the trust issues with Jones. Either way, “DC” expects to come out victorious this time.

“The person that we saw against Ovince Saint Preux is the new, USADA-regulated Jon Jones,” Cormier said. “He’s always going to look like that. So, yes, I will beat him up on July 29th.”
