Conor McGregor has now criticized Khabib Nurmagomedov’s undefeated record ahead of UFC 229.

It’s hard to impress the “Notorious” one. After all, he is the biggest superstar the sport of MMA has ever seen and he is arguably the most recognizable sports figure on the planet.

McGregor has been highly critical of his fellow lightweight’s performances inside the Octagon. Just last year he flamed Khabib on social media. Saying the Dagestani’s mauling of Edson Barbosa was on par with ‘dogs–t’ despite a lopsided unanimous decision for Nurmagomedov.

Although the Dagestani wrecking machine sports an undefeated record, McGregor is not impressed. As a matter of fact, he thinks Khabib’s unblemished record is flawed.

“I’m not really impressed that much by his record,” McGregor said in an interview with Megan Olivi. “It’s a pretty looking record but if you dig deep, it’s not that pretty. I think it’s very deceiving. Everybody seems to put him on a pedestal, he’s this, he’s that — I don’t see it.”

“He’s a bit timid when it comes to taking a shot. He does not like to take a smack. If you don’t like to take a smack and you fight me, you’re in for a long, long night.”

McGregor went on to discount Khabib’s most recent victory at UFC 223. He was scheduled to fight then-champion Tony Ferguson for the fourth time. Unfortunately, Furguson would injure his knee just days before the fight putting the fight in jeopardy yet again.

Al Iaquinta stepped in on 24 hours notice but Khabib was just too much for the part-time real estate agent.

McGregor now plans on reminding the world he never lost his belt(s) and he is still the king of the 155-pound division.

“He fought an unranked novice let’s say. I don’t believe he’s champion, I don’t believe [Tony] Ferguson is champion.

“I believe they know that, especially now, that the real champion is back.”

Conor McGregor Wants To Headline UFC 230 After “Sparking” Khabib

Conor McGregor truly is one of the most down fighters in the UFC.

Conor McGregor could fight two times in one month.

That is if everything goes according to plan for “The Notorious” this weekend (Sat. October 6, 2018). McGregor will challenge Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC lightweight title. The match is being called the biggest fight in UFC history.

McGregor is a well renowned knockout artist and has a history of starching some of his opponents inside the Octagon. Names such as Jose Aldo, Eddie Alvarez, and Dennis Siver come to mind. If he’s able to do the same to Khabib this weekend, McGregor wants to jump right back into the cage.

During today’s (Thurs. October 4, 2018) pre-fight press conference, McGregor mentioned as much. McGregor said he’d like to “spark” Khabib and go on to main event UFC 230 next month:

“I may want to spark Khabib and headline that Madison Square Garden card,” McGregor said. “November 3rd. That’s less than a month away from this one. I may want to do that one. That’s what I’m thinking of to be honest. So we’ll see what happens.”

Recently, it was announced that a women’s flyweight title fight will main event UFC 230. Valentina Shevchenko will face Sijara Eubanks for the vacant belt. This has been rather underwhelming for fans, who were expecting a much more high-profile headliner.

Some speculated that Nate Diaz vs. Dusting Poirier could be elevated. The pair will fight in a lightweight contest in the co-main event. Diaz and Poirier have campaigned to have the fight moved up to 165 pounds for an inaugural title.

That idea, however, has been shot down by UFC President Dana White. If McGregor is able to do what he says he’d like to do, and main event UFC 230, it’d certainly be massive.

Earlier today, speculation ran wild when UFC President Dana White revealed he would ‘try’ to make the UFC 230 co-main between Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier a five-round main event.

White and the UFC announced that the UFC 230 main event would feature Valentina Shevchenko vs. Sijara Eubanks earlier this week. The decision left many fans surprised and shocked that bout would headline a major PPV from New York.

The UFC exec was asked about the fight’s status at the beginning of today’s UFC 229 pre-fight press conference. White gave a brief update on the on Diaz vs. Poirier:

“We’re still working on New York. And as far I know right now, that’s fight’s happening. Yes.”

Pressed about whether it was the main event or not, White backed off his promise and emphatically said it was not:

“No. Not the main event.”

Well, that’s that. At least for now, as White has been known to say one thing and do the other immediately afterward. As he likes to say, ‘we’ll see what happens.’ Indeed we will.
