Cyborg Will Make Amanda Nunes Pay For Delaying Superfight

After having to wait several months to fight Amanda Nunes, Cyborg vows to make her fellow countrywoman pay for the delay.

Arguably the biggest fight in women’s mixed martial arts (MMA) history is set for next month (Sat. December 29, 2018).

UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg will defend her title against 135-pound champion Amanda Nunes. The superfight has been in the works for the past several months. However, Cyborg isn’t happy with how long the fight took to make.

Initially, Nunes called Cyborg out for a superfight with her fellow countrywoman. But once Cyborg asked for the fight to go down at UFC 228, Nunes said she needed more time to prepare. Now, the fight will happen at UFC 232 form Las Vegas.

Cyborg told media members recently, during UFC 230 fight week, she doesn’t have an issue with Nunes. She’s simply upset with how long Nunes made her wait for the fight (via MMA Junkie):

“I don’t have any problem (with Amanda),” Cyborg said. “I just accept the fight with her after I fight Holly Holm and she asks for nine months for training for this fight.

“I think when you call someone out you have to be ready. You don’t have to need nine months to be ready.”

Nunes has the opportunity to make history by becoming the first female dual weight champion in history. Also, she’d be the first woman to have ever won a title in different weight classes in the UFC. That won’t be an easy task, however, as Cyborg vows to make Nunes pay for delaying their fight:

“I accepted to fight her Sept. 8 after she called me out six months before,” Cyborg said.

“She signed the deal to fight in December. As fighters you don’t have the option, you have to wait. You have to keep training and wait. But she’s going to pay in December.”

Jon Jones Vows To Treat Career With More Respect Going Forward

Jon Jones admitted that he was extremely sad without MMA.

Jon Jones vows to make changes and treat his career with more respect going forward after given another chance.

Jones will have the chance to prove people wrong once he fights Alexander Gustafsson for a second time with the vacant light heavyweight title being on the line. This will serve as the headliner of the UFC 232 pay-per-view event.

During his comeback tour that includes an exclusive interview with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani at the UFC 232 presser, Jones opened up. This is to the point where he noted that his rise to being a superstar had gotten to him. Thus, it got the better of him and needs to learn from those lessons.

“The guy that fought Gustafsson the first time was right in the heyday of all his crap. As far as just being a party boy, mainly,” Jones said (H/T to Bloody Elbow). “Being on top of the world. Not many things have happened to my life at that point. So, I was just really on top of the world, just feeling invincible.”

Jon Jones Reflects On His Mistakes

Jones brought up how he has been through a lot and learned from it. Thus, he now appreciates the sport rather than take it for granted.

“Opposed to the guy that you see now, I feel like I’ve been through a lot. I’ve learned a lot. And I just feel like I appreciate the sport a lot more than used to. Having it be taken away from you and losing it.  It teaches you how much it means to you.”

The former UFC champion admitted that he was extremely sad without the sport and took it to heart when he didn’t have it.

“And this sport does mean a lot to me. I was extremely sad without it. Now that I have the opportunity to be back here in the UFC. I feel like I will treat it with so much more respect.”

Alexander Gustafsson Responds To Jon Jones Presser Shove

Alexander Gustafsson responds to Jon Jones shoving him at the UFC 232 pre-fight press conference this past weekend.

Things got a little testy between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson last weekend.

Jones and Gustafsson participated in a pre-fight press conference for their scheduled UFC 232 clash. The longtime rivals will main event the pay-per-view (PPV) from Las Vegas, Nevada on December 29th. After fielding questions from the media, Jones and Gustafsson squared off for a staredown.

After UFC President Dana White left the area, Jones and Gustafsson faced the media for pictures. However, Jones and Gustafsson began to battle for front position, before Jones turned to shove “The Mauler.” Dana White jumped in quickly to separate the men, who didn’t take it further than that.

In fact, Gustafsson let off a little smile after Jones shoved him. Speaking to Luke Thomas on “The MMA Hour” recently, Gustafsson said that he wasn’t impressed by Jones’ power after being shoved (via MMA Fighting):

“I don’t know [why he shoved me]. He just did that, and the only thing I noticed was that I wasn’t impressed by his power at all,” Gustafsson said.

“We had some fun up there, and the 29th of December, we’re going to give all the fans a really good show, even better than the first one, I can promise you that. I’m excited and I’m looking forward to it. I’ve never been this motivated before.”

Jones and Gustafsson battled it out to a razor close decision back in 2013. With how close the fight was, Jones claims he didn’t train seriously for the contest, and still won via unanimous decision. Gustafsson hopes Jones brings his A-game this time around because he doesn’t want to hear any excuses when it’s all said and done:

“Whatever Jon comes with — he says he didn’t train for the first fight, whatever, I don’t care — I really hope he brings his A-game,” Gustafsson said.

“I really hope he brings his best to the table, because I’m getting ready for the best. I’m getting ready for Jon’s A-game. I don’t want to hear any excuses after I beat him.”

Amanda Nunes reveals her high expectations should she beat Cris Cyborg. The UFC women’s featherweight champion will take on the UFC women’s bantamweight champion at the UFC 232 pay-per-view event. This bout will serve as the main event.

Nunes holds wins over some of the biggest fighters in her weight class. Those names include Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate, Germaine de Randamie, Valentina Shevchenko, Raquel Pennington, and Sara McMann.

Thus, Nunes believes that if she can beat Cyborg then it should make her status as the greatest undeniable. This is also due to the fact that Cyborg is widely considered the women’s GOAT.

“Definitely (it makes me the best female fighter of all-time),” Nunes told MMAjunkie. “I’m here for that. That’s why I asked for the fight. Because I want to be remembered as the best female ever.”

Amanda Nunes’ Demands

Nunes continued by stating that she also wants a spot in the UFC Hall of Fame and Performance Institute.

“I want these two belts for sure. I want my name in the (UFC) Hall of Fame in the (UFC) Performance Institute (in Las Vegas). I want my name there for history.”

At this stage in the preparation for this fight, Nunes is purely focused on Cyborg due to the challenge that is in front of her.

“My energy is focused on this fight first, then after that we can talk,” Nunes said. “But definitely I will bring this belt home with me. I’m here for that. (UFC) President) Dana White is giving me this opportunity. He knows I’ll be able to do this. I will prove it.”

Save The Date
