Alexander Gustafsson reveals he suffered an injury in his most recent fight. The former title contender was finished in the third round by strikes by Jon Jones in the UFC 232 main event. This light heavyweight title fight went down on Saturday night (December 29, 2018) at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

After the fight, Gustafsson made it known that he suffered a groin injury early in the fight that threw him off and set the bar for the fight.

“He got me very, very early in the first round,” Gustafsson told MMAjunkie. “Very early. After that I just shut down. I wasn’t tired, I had my conditioning. I felt good. We had our exchanges and everything. He just shut me down very early in the first round and I couldn’t move at all. I told my corner that too and all that. He did what he was supposed to do and made sure he won the fight.”

Despite all of the drama leading up to the fight and the outcome of it, he made it known that he doesn’t think he was fighting a different version of Jones. Instead, he just gave praise to Jones.

“Not really (any different),” Gustafsson said. “He just keeps a very high level of fighting. I was prepared for it. He just caught me this time. That’s it. I didn’t notice anything about if he was stronger or faster or anything. He went for his takedowns and his kicks and everything like that. I was prepared for it. He just had a really good move today and he shut me down.”

Still Looking For Gold

The former title contender also didn’t shoot down the possibility of moving up to heavyweight after UFC 232. In his mind, he’ll take any fight the UFC offers in order to get another shot at gold.

“It’s not over yet,” Gustafsson said. “Let’s see what’s next. Like always, you do this for a reason. That is to compete with the best guys out there. That’s what I’ll do. I’ll do it as long as it’s fun.”

Jon Jones vows to make changes and treat his career with more respect going forward after given another chance.

Jones will have the chance to prove people wrong once he fights Alexander Gustafsson for a second time with the vacant light heavyweight title being on the line. This will serve as the headliner of the UFC 232 pay-per-view event.

During his comeback tour that includes an exclusive interview with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani at the UFC 232 presser, Jones opened up. This is to the point where he noted that his rise to being a superstar had gotten to him. Thus, it got the better of him and needs to learn from those lessons.

“The guy that fought Gustafsson the first time was right in the heyday of all his crap. As far as just being a party boy, mainly,” Jones said (H/T to Bloody Elbow). “Being on top of the world. Not many things have happened to my life at that point. So, I was just really on top of the world, just feeling invincible.”

Jon Jones Reflects On His Mistakes

Jones brought up how he has been through a lot and learned from it. Thus, he now appreciates the sport rather than take it for granted.

“Opposed to the guy that you see now, I feel like I’ve been through a lot. I’ve learned a lot. And I just feel like I appreciate the sport a lot more than used to. Having it be taken away from you and losing it.  It teaches you how much it means to you.”

The former UFC champion admitted that he was extremely sad without the sport and took it to heart when he didn’t have it.

“And this sport does mean a lot to me. I was extremely sad without it. Now that I have the opportunity to be back here in the UFC. I feel like I will treat it with so much more respect.”

“The Count” Questions If Jon Jones Can Return To Peak Performance

Michael Bisping has some questions about Jon Jones’ ability heading into his next fight.

The post “The Count” Questions If Jon Jones Can Return To Peak Performance appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Michael Bisping questions how Jon Jones will look when he makes his return to the Octagon.

The former UFC light heavyweight champion will finally return later this year. Jones is scheduled to fight Alexander Gustafsson for a second time. The vacant 205-pound title is on the line. This bout will go down at UFC 232 and serve as the featured bout.

The First Fight

Jones successfully retained his light heavyweight title over Gustafsson back at UFC 165 in 2013 by decision. It was a close, hard-fought war that saw both men have their moments. It is considered one of the best fights in UFC history due to its back-and-forth action.

Bisping talked about the fight on his “Believe You Me” podcast and wondered if Jones will be able to get back to his peak performance with such a layoff that he has sustained.

“It’s gonna be interesting to see what Jones comes back,” Bisping said (H/T to MMANews). “A lot of guys, they need those demons. They need the fire, they need something that makes them an outlier that separates them from the pack. A lot of people, myself included had that.”

Same Fighter?

The former UFC middleweight champ continued by stating that Jones is a wild man, which is something a fighter needs. It may help Jones in a sense, yet he has to wonder if he’s still the same fighter because of his inconsistent bouts.

“You need that wild side and if you’re just a regular Joe you’re not gonna … I’m not saying you have to be a bit reckless or have a little bit of semi-screw loose here and there, but it f*cking helps when you step into an Octagon and fight somebody. His thing is, he’s a wild man.”

The Event

UFC 232 is set to take place on Saturday, December 29, 2018.

It all goes down at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson 2 is a fight that the UFC and its President Dana White are considering based on recent comments made by the boss.

This comes off the heels of reports that the UFC was considering Gustafsson vs. Yoel Romero for the UFC 230 pay-per-view event. It appears that this fight won’t happen but a bigger fight is in the cards.

White recently told ESPN that Jones vs. Gustafsson 2 could headline the upcoming UFC 232 pay-per-view (PPV) event. Now that Jones is cleared to fight once late October rolls around, he is allowed to fight again.

“It’s one of the greatest light heavyweight title fights in history and I expect the rematch to be the same!!!” White told MMA reporter Brett Okamoto.

There is some history between these two fighters as Jones successfully retained his light heavyweight title over Gustafsson back at UFC 165 in 2013 by decision. It was a close war that saw both men have their moments and one of the best fights in the history of the promotion.
