UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko was not surprised at Jessica Eye’s attempts to rile her up.

Shevchenko will make her first title defense against Eye in the co-main event of UFC 238 on June 8 in Chicago.

Eye recently stated she was using mental tactics to get inside Shevchenko’s head. Earlier this month, she notably claimed “The Bullet” sped up her training footage to look even more impressive.

Shevchenko clapped back soon after and Eye believed that was a sign of her opponent getting annoyed. However, the champion, who had a regular relationship with Eye before their fight was announced, has no grudge and feels if anyone has a problem, it’s the challenger.

“I think from her side it has a little bit changed because I see different eyes, and, like I say, you meet people and if it’s affected like this, it’s not my problem, it’s her problem,” Shevchenko told reporters (via MMA Junkie). “For me, it doesn’t change nothing, the fight. I’m ready for the fight, and this is what I want, to fight good, and I’m going for it and nothing can destroy me for my goal.”

Used To Different Characters

Even if Shevchenko didn’t expect Eye to resort to mind games, she wasn’t surprised by it either.

After all, she has been in the fight game for a very long time and understands how fighters can change, especially when gold is on the line.

“It’s her deal, and whatever she thinks, she thinks,” Shevchenko explained. “You know, I am dealing with so many different types of fighters and people, they are acting differently, someone aggressively, someone trying to pretend you’re friends and then start doing different things. I see them all.

“She cannot surprise me with something different because I saw it. I saw how they’re acting and everything they’re trying to, they think they’re too smart but they are not. Jessica, she is not exceptional.”

UFC 238 will be headlined by a bantamweight title fight between Henry Cejudo and Marlon Moraes.

UFC 238 is less than two weeks away, and while there are two title fights on the card, it’s fair to say fans are looking forward to Tony Ferguson vs. Donald Cerrone more than anything.

Fittingly dubbed as “The People’s Main Event,” Ferguson and Cerrone will collide at the United Center in Chicago on June 8. The winner of the bout will ideally challenge the winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier’s lightweight title fight.

Ferguson, of course, is on an 11-fight winning streak with finishes in six of his last eight fights. As for Cerrone, he has won four of his last five fights, most recently dominating Al Iaquinta at UFC Ottawa earlier this month.

While “Cowboy” is a betting underdog against Ferguson, many feel he is still capable of finishing “El Cucuy” thanks to his striking prowess.

If you needed any more convincing, just watch his devastating combo on Rick Story that eventually led to a TKO win back in 2016. If you’ve already seen it, there’s no harm in watching it again either.

You can watch the whole fight courtesy of the UFC’s official channel while it’s up:

Rising UFC heavyweight contender Tai Tuivasa says his defeat to Junior dos Santos still burns his soul.

Three wins into his UFC career, the Aussie faced his toughest opponent in Dos Santos last December. Despite having his moments early on, Tuivasa was eventually caught by the Brazilian in the second round and mounted.

As “JDS” threw down strikes, Tuivasa was still fighting back, but the referee saw enough and called an end to the action. It was his first professional defeat.

Now looking to bounce back against Blagoy Ivanov at UFC 238 on June 8 in Chicago, Tuivasa reflected on that setback.

“I watch it every night before bed, it burns my soul,” Tuivasa told AAP (via Canberra Times). “I got caught, I learnt a lot about not rushing. I shouldn’t rush. I get a bit blood hungry. That’s young and dumb. He’s been around forever and he saw that, so he took advantage.”

Tuivasa Working On Wrestling

Tuivasa faced a striker in Dos Santos, but will now face Ivanov who has a background in sambo and judo.

“Bam Bam” says he has been working on his wrestling extensively and will be comfortable if the fight goes to the ground. He’s also ready to show the world other things he has learned in recent months.

“I’ve been wrestling non-stop,” he added. “That doesn’t mean I’m going to come out and double leg someone, but I’ve been working on it and got my body in shape. I think if you’re fit enough to wrestle, I think you’re fit enough to do anything.

“I think I’m fitter than ever and I’ve worked on stuff and I’m excited to show the world. I feel like I’m getting better at the sport. I’m finding more of a passion for the sport.”

UFC 238 will be headlined by a bantamweight title fight between Henry Cejudo and Marlon Moraes. In the co-main event, Valentina Shevchenko defends her women’s flyweight title against Jessica Eye.

Tony Ferguson is set for his highly-anticipated return to the Octagon in two weeks (Sat. June 8, 2019).

He’ll be facing fellow fan-favorite Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at the UFC 228 pay-per-view (PPV). The action goes down from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. Crazy enough, Ferguson vs. Cerrone isn’t even in a headliner or co-headliner role.

The PPV is co-headlined by a women’s flyweight title fight between Valentina Shevchenko and Jessica Eye. Headlining the card is a bout for the vacant 135-pound title between flyweight champ Henry Cejudo and Marlon Moraes. However, Ferguson vs. Cerrone is being touted as the people’s main event of the card.

As we prepare for the return of “El Cucuy,” check out one of his best fights to date. Watch the latest “Free Fight” from the UFC’s YouTube channel, as Tony Ferguson goes to war with Anthony Pettis in the co-main event of UFC 229. The pair put on an all-out bloodbath of a war, which lasted into the second round.

However, Pettis broke his hand in the second round, and couldn’t get off the stool for the third. As a result, Ferguson was awarded the TKO victory. Despite the underwhelming finish, the bout took home Fight Of The Night, and rightfully so.

UFC 238’s Jessica Eye Using ‘Mental Tactics’ On Valentina Shevchenko

Women’s flyweight contender Jessica Eye admits she is “poking the bear” with her recent interactions with Valentina Shevchenko.

Eye is on a three-fight winning streak and will get her first chance to become a champion when she challenges Shevchenko in the co-main event of UFC 238 on June 8.

Recently she took aim at “The Bullet” by claiming the champion sped up her training footage to look more impressive.

Shevchenko would retort back soon after.

The two have since met at the UFC Performance Institute and Shevchenko claims things are cordial.

However, Eye believes she has annoyed the champion and feels using mental warfare is completely normal when two people are about to fight.

“I feel like I have annoyed her so much, but most things are going to be taken out of context,” Eye told reporters on Friday (via MMA Junkie). “I could say that’s stupid and the way you put the image out there, they’re going to be like, ‘She is such a terrible person. She’s a bully. She picks on people.’ I don’t know if she really sped up the video. It looks sped up, not going to lie. I know that other people have done it. Maybe they haven’t. But by saying it it annoyed a bunch of people and got things going.

“The cars were going super fast, and I know other people have done that. And I don’t blame her. Why not? Why not throw a little bit of mental tactics in there. What do you think I did to say something to her? Me and her aren’t being rude to each other. But there needs to be some kind of poking of the bear here. Two people are about to fight.”

Whether Eye’s mental tactics will have an effect in her title fight in Chicago remains to be seen.
