A massive heavyweight rematch is on the horizon. UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will defend his title against Stipe Miocic to headline UFC 241 on pay-per-view (PPV) next month.

The action goes down from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on August 18. In their first matchup, Cormier dethroned Miocic of the heavyweight crown with a first-round knockout. Cormier has since successfully defended the title once, but Miocic has been sidelined after the birth of his child, and has been gunning for a rematch ever since the defeat.

Now, he’ll get exactly what he wants next month on one of the biggest cards of the year. The winner could very well have a frightening challenger waiting for them in Francis Ngannou. “The Predator” is on a three-fight knockout streak over the likes of Curtis Blaydes, Cain Velasquez, and Junior dos Santos – the latter two being ex-champions.

Speaking to MMA Junkie recently, Ngannou said he fully intends on challenging the winner of Cormier vs. Miocic for the heavyweight strap:

“Either Stipe or D.C., I will go there to get that belt,” Ngannou said.

As for who he predicts will win, Ngannou believes Cormier will once again finish Miocic when they square off. But this time, it’ll be by way of submission:

“D.C. might win again, but maybe this time by submission,” Ngannou said. “This is my vision of the fight.”

If Cormier does emerge victorious against Miocic, it’d make for an interesting matchup between “DC” and Ngannou. Especially with Cormier not seeming too impressed with Ngannou’s work inside the Octagon as of late.

What do you think about Ngannou predicting a submission win for Cormier over Miocic?

Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic will run things back in the main event of UFC 241 on August 17.

Ever since Cormier knocked out Miocic in the first round at UFC 226, the former heavyweight champion has been wanting the rematch. Yet, all signs pointed to a Brock Lesnar fight and then “DC” would retire. However, Lesnar stayed in WWE, which paved the way for the rematch. Although it is not the fight Cormier wanted, the heavyweight champ is confident he beats him yet again.

“I understand that he’s going to be better,” Cormier said at the summer press conference (h/t MMA Junkie). “But when I think about the fight and the little bit of time we fought before, I just don’t think he’s good enough to beat me. I mean, I just don’t. I think he’s a good champion. I think he’s a good fighter. I just don’t think he’s good enough to beat me. Whether it’s 25 minutes or two rounds, I’m still gonna win the fight.”

Miocic then got asked what he thinks about those comments and responded.

“I don’t know,” Miocic said. “Listening (to Cormier) right there, I’m not good enough. A good fighter, but not to his level.”

He then gave a real answer where he is confident he will right the wrongs of the last fight.

“We’ll definitely see August 17,” he said. “Trust me, a lot has changed. I’ve got my mind right. I’m walking out with the belt wrapped around my waist, no question.”

Whether or not Stipe Miocic will be able to right the wrong is to be seen. But, it is no doubt the biggest fight at heavyweight and a fight that many are interested in seeing.

Nate Diaz will return to the Octagon at UFC 241 when he takes on Anthony Pettis at welterweight. The two do not like each other and have been going back-and-forth with trash-talk and it will no doubt be an interesting fight.

Diaz hasn’t fought since he lost to Conor McGregor back in 2016. Many believe ring rust is real and the layoff will impact the Stockton-native. Meanwhile, Pettis is coming off of an incredible knockout win over Stephen Thompson in March in his welterweight debut.

With Diaz being off for so long, Ben Askren believes Anthony Pettis wins this fights rather easily.

“I think Anthony wins pretty easily. Anthony’s really a diverse striker and we saw Nate struggle with the leg kicks against Conor in their second fight,” Askren said at a media scrum (h/t MMANews). What Nate really relied on in the Conor fights was his gas tank cause Conor obviously doesn’t have one or a very, very small gas tank. And Anthony doesn’t have those same gas tank issues. So I think Anthony just continues to kind of pick him apart for the whole 15 minutes.”

It will no doubt be an exciting fight that many fans, media, and fighters alike are looking forward to. Fans have been calmoring for Nate Diaz to return to the Octagon since his last fight, and on August 17, he will indeed return to fight Pettis. Whether or not the fight has an impact on the rankings is to be seen, but it is a ‘money’ fight for the UFC to promote.
