An interesting lightweight bout has been added to the upcoming UFC 243 pay-per-view (PPV) card in Melbourne, Australia.

According to a report from ESPN‘s Ariel Helwani, Dan Hooker will be getting his desired bout against Al Iaquinta. The action will go down from the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne. “Hangman” is currently coming off a big first-round knockout victory over James Vick at UFC San Antonio.

Hooker has won five of his last six bouts, as he was defeated by Edson Barboza prior to his fight with Vick in December in Milwaukee. Now, he faces a tough matchup against “Ragin’” Al Iaquinta. Iaquinta has dropped two of his last three contests, his latest being a unanimous decision loss to Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.

Now, he’s looking to regroup against one of the most talented competitors in the form of the 29-year-old New Zealander. Also on the UFC 243 card will be a highly-anticipated UFC middleweight title unification bout. Undisputed champion Robert Whittaker puts his title on the line against interim champion Israel Adesanya.

This fight card has the chance to be the biggest in the history of Australia, headlined by two of Oceania’s biggest stars.

What do you think about Iaquinta and Hooker facing off at UFC 243?

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm is set to return to the Octagon.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reports that “The Preacher’s Daughter” will be taking on Raquel Pennington at the upcoming UFC 243 pay-per-view (PPV) from Melbourne, Australia on October 5. The action goes down from Marvel Stadium and will feature a middleweight title unification bout between Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya.

Holm comes off a first-round TKO loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 239. The 37-year-old has dropped five of her last seven bouts inside the Octagon. She rocked the mixed martial arts (MMA) world with a second-round knockout win over Ronda Rousey back in November of 2015. Holm was the first woman ever to defeat Rousey inside the cage.

Now, Holm will return to the city in which she made history to take on Pennington. “Rocky” snapped a two-fight losing streak to names like Amanda Nunes and Germaine de Randamie when she bested Irene Aldana via split decision last month. Now, she’ll take on Holm, a rematch from their first meeting back in February of 2015.

Pennington was actually Holm’s opponent for her UFC debut. The fight was very close, but in the end, Holm was victorious by way of split decision. It will be interesting to see how things play out a second time around.

What do you think about Holm returning against Pennington in Australia?

Former title challenger Kelvin Gastelum revealed who he wants to win in the upcoming UFC 243 headliner between Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya.

Whittaker and Adesanya collide in a middleweight title unification fight on October 5. Gastelum has history with both fighters — he was originally supposed to face Whittaker for the title in February until injury pulled the latter out. He then faced Adesanya for the interim title in a losing effort resulting in the UFC 243 matchup.

Last month, he predicted Adesanya would come out on top, but in a recent interview, now believes Whittaker will win.

However, he still wants Adesanya to win so he can avenge that loss:

“It’ll be an interesting fight because Israel brings a whole different skill set,” Gastelum told the South China Morning Post. “A whole variety of skills. But I think Rob has the right tools to beat him. I think he will win but selfishly I want Israel to win so I can take the title from him.”

Gastelum and Adesanya took part in a five-round war at UFC 236 that went back-and-forth until the final bell. However, it was “The Last Stylebender” who came out on top, notably dropping Gastelum multiple times throughout the contest.

The manner of the defeat makes Gastelum want to correct things even more:

“I just want that rematch,” he added. “You lose and go over every single detail and you want to get back in there and make things right.”

Do you agree with Gastelum’s prediction? And do you think he’ll eventually face the winner soon?

UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker revealed he has been in regular contact with Jon Jones about training together.

Whittaker is set to take on Israel Adesanya in a middleweight title unification clash at UFC 243 in October. The buildup is certainly personal between the two, but another person who has beef with Adesanya is Jones. With them going back-and-forth as well, Jones even offered to help Whittaker train for Adesanya.

And the light heavyweight champion didn’t just say that to make headlines either:

“Yeah, I’ve spoken to Jon numerous times over the phone,” Whittaker said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday. “About training together, getting together and maybe getting some training in.

Unfortunately, the only problem is that they live on opposite sides of the world, with Whittaker being based in Australia:

“I’m sure we would if he didn’t live 27 hours away,” Whittaker said laughing. “Yeah, there’s the whole distance thing. Me and Jon are cool. We’ve talked a lot back-and-forth. He’s a cool guy, he’s a straight guy. I’m sure I’d get some work with him but yeah, he lives in another country.”

Do you think Jones would have prepared Whittaker even more for Adesanya?
